    F90 Comp owner here. There’s nothing magical about this tune, there are numerous incredibly talented tuners on this platform, but the fact that they match the warranty allows them to charge what they do. There’s value there but it’s also a vote of confidence in the engine longevity. Essentially they are selling you a $600 tune and a $3000 warranty. Nothing wrong with that, it’s just a different business model.
    Stating stock crank HP as 616 (which is Comp pack # btw) is inaccurate as a baseline, they’re wildly understated from the factory, closer to 700 crank HP stock.
    All that said, he seems like a nice dude, obviously his company has credentials, and the product works. And all that said, the F90 is a home run from BMW, and truly we are in the golden age of gasoline engines.
    Thanks for the video!

    @5abivt Před 4 lety +18

    Start in 2nd gear ? No. Even with 850 hp it needs the 1st gear to get that quick. Why ? Because it’s a heavy car and it has awd so traction is not an issue. Same formula that made the gtr so fast on introduction. Power + Short gearing + Awd + Fast shifts = excellent performance.

    • @ludwigs2332
      @ludwigs2332 Před 4 lety +2

      The difference here is that the M5 has a torque converter automatic, and not a double clutch. So probably is faster in second gear.

    • @5abivt
      @5abivt Před 4 lety

      Ludwig no absolutely not. It’s a heavy car with awd. A new auto even if with a torque converter can shift faster than a manual. It has 8 speeds which allow for extremely steep first gear ratios giving maximum torque with steep gearing to move a heavy car extremely fast off the line and with 8 speeds the shifts are quick and closely spaced ratios between gears meaning the rpms won’t drop in between gears giving maximum acceleration keeping within its torque/hp curve.
      Now if this was a manual z06 with 850hp sure it’s going to spin all day in first gear because 2 tires can’t put the power down. And then the shift to second eats valuable time making it even slower. Starting in second means the torque would be reduced in 2nd.. allowing grip at a slower speed than in first and then would pull to a higher speed given 2nd is longer and you also save the entire shift.
      No car is faster in 2nd with awd and a fast shifting transmission.

    As an owner of both an F90 M5 and a McLaren who runs these same roads on weekends, may I just suggest that the last thing the M5 needs is more power. I blame the EPAS and the less-than-ideal seats, which among other reasons do not give anywhere near the same confidence as a more dedicated driver's car.

    • @npaul4171
      @npaul4171 Před 4 lety

      Compared to a car that isn't built with luxury in mind whatsoever, is the steering system on the F90 less communicative to a point where it becomes easier to unintentionally exceed the absolute limit of grip? (I've never driven one so forgive me if it is a dumb question.)

    • @Alshen
      @Alshen Před 4 lety

      @@npaul4171 That is actually a very good question. These EPAS systems are notorious for being lacking in feel, even the one in the 991.2 TS (supposedly one of the best electrical racks) does not hold a candle to the 12C's hydraulic rack. The M5 is so big and heavy and tricky to catch once sliding I'd never try 2WD mode on roads without huge runoff. I really wish BMW allowed 2WD mode with some DSC intervention remaining so less-than-pro level avid drivers like me can have some fun with it without constant fear of crashing the thing. It does do a fair job as a daily driver I suppose.

  • @biggiecheese5135
    @biggiecheese5135 Před 4 lety

    Errr, dunno if you guys looked this up first, but Veyrons are rated at Crank hp, not Wheel hp, it only makes like 720whp. If this car is making 850 crank hp, then it's most likely putting down around 700-750whp, probably even more considering the F90 is heavily underrated from factory.
    Also, I noticed that the company is quoting "hp" figures, but they don' state whether that's crank or wheel, I'll assume crank, which is always concerning when a tuning company tries to sell you products based on crank horsepower, because I do not have access to a crank dyno, I cannot ever confirm whether or not you were being truthful about your tune.

    Zach (or anyone interested) if you want to learn more about high end tuning (BMW, Porsche, AMG, McLaren, Ferrari, etc.) I really suggest reading BoostAddict.com it's probably the best forum for finding out the stock performance of cars like this (there are dyno of F90s, runs in the quarter and with a draggy) and then all the comprehensive data from tuned examples is usually on there as well. For example you would see that the F90 M5 makes closer to 600 WHP stock, so it's probably over 700 BHP from the factory. With tune + downpipe +150 BHP is quite achievable for most tuners.

The reviewer needs to get his facts straight. Farrah does a better review. That being said, 4k cost for this tune with a warranty back up is way worth it .
