  • I found this abandoned railroad trestle on The Suwannee River by Dowling Park in Suwannee County. I learned that this was once part of the Live Oak, Perry & Gulf Railroad.

Just catching up on some of your older videos. Hv family members that live in this area.
Thanks for all the hiking adventures and hanging in there with the love of off the beaten path places.

Thanks, FloridaTrailBlazer, for sharing video of your visit to this abandoned rr trestle. I was doing some searching on this area -- Suwannee County, Live Oak -- today, and I ran across some images and articles on The (Thomas) Dowling House. Dowling is a family name of mine. I have Dowling ancestors who lived in this area. So, it was really cool to read about Thomas Dowling and then to run across your own blog post about visiting Dowling Park and to be introduced with the Dowling history of the rail roads. I've ran across a lot of connections to the rail roads in my family history research. My father's grandfather was a West Virginia railroad man, and I heard a few stories about him from my grandfather. I think of following railroad tracks as a kind of metaphor for travelling through the history of my ancestors.

+Jonathan P. Rivers (JPRAncestry) Discovering and following the history can do that. You begin traveling down so many paths and in a way it is like connecting pieces to a puzzle. I always try to help open that door through my videos so I am glad to have helped inspired this journey. I was fascinated by the history here, I was actually researching another part of Florida when I came across this history. I really enjoy this area, good luck to you and thanks for watching my videos!

Nice little spot by the river you found there, Florida Trailblazer! You really do find the coolest spots -- I'm surprised you haven't been to ever nook and cranny in Florida by now haha. I was half expecting to see you walk across that trestle to the other side of the river LOL! Until next time,

+Peakbaggers For Cancer I am slowly but surely making my way to what I can find. I still have a lot of the panhandle to explore where it's loaded with historical sites and awesome hiking. I am looking forward to that all in due time. I do feel such a good connection with the state you know traveling to and exploring all of these areas, I just follow my passions and where the history leads me!
