  • Nick just picked up this brand new Tremec tKX transmission from Modern Driveline! It's going into his 1965 Impala SS, replacing a modern overdrive transmission that he's been driving for several years. In this short unboxing style video, Nick give a little walk thorough of the new TKX, what to consider if you're looking to upgrade into a manual transmission, and how to select the proper transmission for your modern pro touring muscle car.
    Huge thank you to the guys at Modern Driveline! (www.moderndriveline.com/)

  • @camtwo1466
    @camtwo1466 Před rokem +2

    First thing everybody who buys a TKO of a TKX transmission should do is remove the shifter plate and take some molybdenum based grease and grease the shifter end and the double springs that controls left and right motion of the shifter.
    Just thinking that the internals will spray lube the upper half of the transmission is wishful thinking as the parts were bone dry and the trans is filled to proper capacity and properly angled too..
    Doing this will make your transmission shift so unbelievably smooth and not so stiff feeling.Youll still feel where neutral is but NOT as much!!!
    I put 5000 miles on my TKO600 and the spring tension on the shifter felt stiffer when engaging into first gear than 5th or reverse so I took off the shifter and found that lack of lube was causing my pressure washers to grind into the aluminum body of the shifter housing and causing the springs that control left and right motion to bind up inside each other due to being bone dry..
    Whats not noticed with the eye is that the lug that attaches to the shifter has a slight angle to it when its seated correctly the angle is angled down towards the drivers side of the transmission so if you have to pull to the left a il more abnormally than you feel like you should be needing to do so this is what I was experiencing until I turned the cube thats attached to my shifter 180 degrees , greased the shifter rod that makes contact with the dogs, greased the springs and viola I now have a sweet shifting transmission...

However, I see several videos where people do some comparisons to the magnum, like you did when you mentioned you just don’t need two overdrives. Is that it, is there anything ells? quick question. I don't know much about manual transmissions. does the TKX have reverse lockout and how does it function? I have a '66 Mustang with a factory 3 speed auto that is about to give out and wanted to swap to a 5 speed manual. the manual trans Mustangs back then had a reverse lockout mechanism that worked by pulling up with your fingers on a metal fork attached to the shift lever. I was wondering if I bought a restomod 5 speed lever, would the reverse lockout fork end up just being a dummy fork that doesn't do anything.
