- LIVING OFF GRID in a FOREST CABIN - What We Cook & Eat | DIVING INSIDE a Secret OCEAN CAVE - Ep. 135 Jake and Nicole are trying to live off the grid in three main ways! Off the food grid, off the power grid, and off the transportation grid. Our plan to do this is by gardening, knowing native wild edible foods, fishing, sailing, and wind/solar panels! The May Flower Blood Supermoon caused the lowest tides we've ever seen called "Spring Tide" and exposed parts of the cliffs, rocks, and mini islands that we haven't seen before! The water level difference between low and high tide can sometimes be over 12 feet of water. We find a secret Cave and Dive inside! Watch to see what we find inside the cave. Then, we plant about 10 more fruit/nut trees and finish our chainsaw milled bushcraft style Hügelkultur style Raised Bed for 20 Tomato Plants! Stay tuned and subscribe to see how our off grid life turns out!

It seems like your home could be called Tengoku (heaven)! It is such a labor of love. When you were on the landing looking out over the property I had a flashback to when you were first building the carport and there was nothing around but trees. It is incredible the paradise you have build with your blood, sweat, and (hopefully not too many, or only happy) tears. I hope for you both many, many years of bliss (and family, whenever that happens) to come. Thanks, as always, for bringing us along on your journey!
Ok so this is probably the most epic off grid garden I've ever seen! I love the Asian influence in your cooking and plants!
Extremely well produced episode, ESPECIALLY Jake's review of his fruit/nut tree plans. Well done Jake.
🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
What an adventure! I was nervous when you were in the cave, you know the usual high tide scariness. I loved the garden & fruit tree tour, it gave a much better explanation of your vision. Thank you, truly. It's amazing watching your videos & the delicious meals you create.
This video is packed full of epic adventure!! 🙌
🙌🏼😍
👊💪🙏
Been watching a long time..... your best video yet!!! Love you guys!
And Nicole goodness...
And some of that guy....😆

Lots of hard work, glad you got to play in the cave a bit. Always loved the Sound and the Gulf Islands; used to canoe there years back. I see your helpers like to play too, Those dogs always tag along. Thanks for sharing .. from an old man in OR.
This was a very nice satisfying visit. It showed a nice collection of work, play, planning and achievement.
I think we knew you two have been working your little tookases off, but this was a nice chance to see what you have been able to put together.
Como rebby is becoming a very nice homestead.
Thank You for the little tour at the end. I can begin to see your vison for the orchard and garden.
Once all that potential firewood is bucked up and stashed, you will have yourself a very nice center court and food source.
you two have been very busy and it is really beginning to show. Thanks for letting us look over your shoulder.
Hello beautiful couple jake and nicole, i have been watching your channel for the whole duration of lockdown here in Philippines. I had a realization. Where mostly people nowadays despise manual labor, i believe you too are truly exceptional human being. Considering you are coming from US and Canada you had a choice to live comfortable lives. But here you are keeping busy. I admire nicole she's very independent and strong woman. Take care of her Jake. She's one in a million. Love you two...
So happy you showed your cats 🐈. Everything looks wonderful ❤
i love the cats too so much
I've watched you on this journey from the begging . I'll keep on staying around , what you've done and Nicole is just amazing ! Love your videos 🙏
You would
thanks again for another great video jake, and the more you talk to us the better, about what you are doing, about your plans, about general culture and illustration of the different types of plants, flowers, trees, fruits, about your techniques for composting and planting, etc, it's all very interesting and educational.
just want to say thank you...to you both for sharing in depth such awesome parts of your lives! super happy to know other humans can have such appreciation for being true to yourselves and the dreams you have seen come true. much love and lots of hugs!
Jake and Nicole are very nice people who are inviting us all to witness how to live off of the land, being respectful of nature and showing us how to sustain living off the grid.... They are truly meant to be together and they share a love so deeply for each other as well as their small piece of Heaven here on Earth.... Thank you Jake and Nicole.... lol.... A week is too long!! I know pretty selfish of me but I want more. And I would like your kimchee recipe. Love your adventures. I have MS and is progressing so I am living vicariously through you 2.
Don't feel so bad I want more to 😊
I lived in Alaska for four years and this brings me back to it with so much love ❤️ keep doing you guys and don’t let anyone bring you down in the comments. Amazing 👏🙏❤️
Se me olvidaba 😃 darles las gracias por compartir sus videos, dónde me permites ver las bellezas naturales que tiene su continente.bay
Looking back at when you started, I can only imagine how awesome this property will look in another 3 years!
Hello my beautiful friend
I am remodeling my kitchen and am including a reproduction of your “temporary “ kitchen shelves! I just love how simple and comfortable you have made your beautiful home.
Thank you so much… Yeah we have plans on making them better but they have worked really well so far and we milled them ourselves
I hope ya keep the shelves! Love them
Thank you for bringing this great video love the cave underwater I'm disabled I'm paralyzed my wife's down in a power chair to see what you have is incredible you're unbelievable people awesome life love watching thank you for bringing it thank you
Nice calm ocean in beginning. Shows torching the porch steps, planting raised gardens, 100 fruit trees. Fun to watch.
God's richest blessings to you both.. Cheers from over the pond in Cape Town..
keep your superstitions to yourself....
Nothing like super fresh vegetables after a hard days work.
I know I would like veg’s more if I could have fresh every day. Oh if I could ask Jake have you ever mentioned Your family???
The gift of nature. So beautiful
Your scuba trip was totally awesome in every way! I Love seeing how the ocean has dressed a beautiful under ground cave with such glory to ones eyes!! You two are so blessed living totally in the glory of Gods nature!! Take Care❤ of each other!! God Bless You Both!! Love Always Lisa Guico
Great music selection this episode, well done, live long and prosper
Where have I heard this music before?? It was bugging me the whole time because I know I’ve heard it but can’t place it!
One persons messy yard is another persons organized chaos. All of the foliage debris on your cleared land. I am when y'all get around to clearing it up will make good mulch.
The place where you were diving IS VERY MUCH A SACRED PLACE SIR!!!!!! YOU BETTER BELIEVE THAT!!!! In fact, the entire area where you're located is the same, it's incredibly important that spaces like that still exist, more so than most realize!!! I know I don't have to tell you two to love and respect the land but I am saying it anyway cause there are lots of people out there who truly don't know just how desperately we need to have every single inch of land like this!!!! It literally fuels our atmosphere and brings the necessary bits n bobs for life to thrive to nearly every inch of the planet!!!!
There was something about the caves though that was so perfect. I think it may have been the secluded part of things, I bet it was unbelievably quiet in there!!!! That's the exact kind of place where a person can easily discover things they didn't know about themselves!!!!

I love how the garden will eventually look like a maze or space that you have to journey through, weaving all around. I enjoy how you work with the landscape. I little pond for Koi might be nice in that swampy area. So fun to watch transform.
Good idea, also fish can be used to control mosquitoes larvae.
Starting our family!? Love it! Hope this is a hint at a future announcement!
Same here!
It is always good to catch up with your activities...you all work so hard but the fruits of your labor are showing....thanks for sharing your journey!
Nice cave exploring time. Fantastic raised bed gardens. Great meals from fresh veggies. YUMM! Paradise of forest log trails. Thanks for letting me visit you home.
The more you guys explore the area, the more places like that you're gonna find!!! I betcha one day you'll stumble upon the most beautiful place you ever seen!!!!
It's understandable if you don't film it, but at the same time......it would be super cool if we got to share it with you both!!!!!! This post was the closest to the overuse of the word 'epic' that I've ever seen!!! That's a powerful word and it's used so much now that it's lost some of the thunder!!! Videos like this one can bring that back!!! Thanks for sharing!!!!!
Your garden is going to be as amazing as the one in Arizona, it’s getting so big. What happened to the guy that was going to live in the red yurt? You let the cats out now, they don’t wander off? You guys are amazing and I find happiness watching all you do, and I’ve watched since you first met, travels through Europe and everything leading to where you are now, you should be very proud of yourselves.
I wondered that about the cats too
So excited with all you do..especially building up a very prolific garden...can't wait to see nature's power taking over getting established overtime, can't be soon enough
Thank you for all the effort you go thru to share all this with us!
Nicole looked REAL interested in your Biologist story, lol.
Just patiently listening to another soil anecdote
I want to eat dinner at your house. Your wok dishes look scrumptious.
can u tag dp in timeline?...people come here to see dp video....
I still can't believe that you guys experience going into that cave what beauty you guys share with us keep it coming can't wait for more.💯💯💞💞💞💞
I can’t tell you how much I enjoy your videos... when looking at your thumbnails I really thought they would be without substance and did not watch any of them for a long long time. But then watched one and have stayed ever since. Full of substance, knowledge and beautiful photography ... and the cooking 🙌. All power to you guys, thanks for bringing us along for the ride.
I LOVE YOUR LIFE!! LOVE YOU BOTH ❤️
Cinematography quality 5*s all the way. Beautiful
I can’t wait to see more fruit trees go in the ground, more importantly, watch them grow into maturity and give you guys heaps of abundance! Always really enjoyed your videos, thank you for the great content!
OMG, I think I've watched this video 3 times now, that cave is just so amazing! The rocks, the mussels, the formations, the water, 😍 beautiful! Thank You for filming and sharing...
I love the way Jake makes pizzas and bread. Any old shape will do. Go for it, we are not all restauranteurs.
Hello my friend
Is it just me or would a week up there with those two be the best vacation ever? Handmade vegan food cooked over a woodfire, working in the garden, working on building projects...heaven 🥰
Great video!!! I loved seeing your adventure, the raised bed vegetable garden, Jake singing, and both of you working so hard to accomplish a common good. Thanks for all the effort to video record your adventure and accomplishments.
What I love about your outdoor kitchen and vegetable garden!
Hey Jake and Nicole - Is that fresh, [non salty water - falling down in the cave ?] Did you taste it ?
Love hanging with you guys every week... Love sharing in your joyful adventure... Thanks.
I was wondering the same thing.
Best wishes all the way from South Africa, love what you guys are doing. Would love to do the same someday. I noticed quite a bit of bees, have you considered setting up a beehive to harvest your own honey? 😋😋
im so proud of the 2 of you for making a life in nature and building a palace from nothing. this is a life for the choice few, and your the 2 people to make it happen. i love watch this videos. thank you.
How did I miss this vlog, one thing it's the most beautiful thing to watch I'm so happy that I got to see what a splendid life you guys live what I would do for just one day of your life gbu guys stay safe with lots of blessings.💯💯♥️♥️♥️💓💓💓💞💞💞💞💞
Hello, Thank you for sharing the video. I also like to go camping. I come from Vietnam.
Vietnam is full of beautiful places.
And beautiful people....
So, I'd really like to fast forward about five years to see what your garden will look like then..... :-)
Какие вы МОЛОДЦЫ!!!!
РАД ЗА ВАС РЕБЯТА!!!!!
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Take no notice of negative comments regarding the brush everywhere your using it as you progress, it’s all coming together, thanks for taking us on your low tide cave trip.
So glad i got a spot in line for this epic new video.
Hernias are not just for old men and other people, Jake.
Please be careful and avoid getting one. You have but one body, Buddy.
It's a LOT healthier to keep moving than to be sedentary.
That cave was fabulous! Loving it! Thank U for Sharing Your Adventures.
Omg those caves are incredible, absolutely beautiful. So glad you shared it thank you guys. I miss my family that lives in Nanaimo and in Comox BC, makes me wish I could go and see them. My favorite was watching the seal leave the cave and swim away.
Starting our family...
Is there a pending announcement already?
Inquiring minds want to know!
I must have missed that episode. I wondered about that, too. Baby must be coming!
Well shes had that same opening monologue for a few episodes now and I've not heard anything yet..
I think she means that they started their family with the dogs and cats, she should wait abit longer before having a baby, there's still some hard work to do.
I've been looking for watering cans that dont suck, and really dont mind paying for some good metal ones. But all the ones I've ever bought just DUMP water, not have that gentle rain like flow. Curious what kind of cans you guys have! Since they never reply, any gardeners have any good recommendations of a good 3gallon+ rainfall watering can?
I know I keep saying this...but the visuals just get better with each episode in your journey, whether on (and in) the water - or in the forest. Each is a treasure. Thank you especially for the walk-through...the twists and turns of the raised beds, intermingled with the various fruit, nut and medicinal trees...each new step is a new path leading...
Hey Kevin, I’m glad to see you going with my two friends! 👌🏻👍🏻👍🏻
RIP BJ Thomas who passed this week, "Raindrops keep fallin' on my head...."
So sad... didn't know it. RIP
if you had used a wire brush on those steps you would have created natural treads.. Did it on a table once.. very attractive.
Thank you for blogging your experiences watching your journey is like "walking down ancient pathways that can lead to knowledge of the Creator so much abundance, beauty and wonder in the ocean cave and the forest and your garden / orchard " :)
All the lovely food and watching you make the garden bigger is making me hungry 🤤
The seals inside the cave are literally the cutest things ever… And when I gave you the tour of all the fruit trees we have planted, how many do you count so far?
Remember they have teeth, and their mouths are loaded with bacteria! I had a friend that had to get dozens of stitches in his arm and was later hospitalized because of a serious bacterial infection from the wound.

I thought they were so darn cute. And I'm showing my hubby how yall raise your beds. He says where gonna make us sone
Going into caves makes me so uncomfortable. Watching your water caving made me almost sick. More power to you!
Impressive! Your caring hearts is so important to nature and your land. One day the abundance of fruit will plentiful for the future.
Good stuff you two. Congratulations. You are both blessed to have each other and for you to share in the vision of the off-grid lifestyle together.
The thumbnails are awesome and the content is better. Cant wait
Thank you! Well said!
Have your cats caught any rodents and have your dogs ever warned you about bears?
Probably won’t get a response as the whole thing is a facade.
@@ST-lo6fm if that's the way you feel then why are you here watching? Are you subscribed or just stopping by? If you've watched in any lengthy amount of time you would know that they actually live there, whether or not they're living as rough as it looks is a different story, they may have a nice home around the corner, who knows right? But I've watched them build everything in today's post, how would you fake that? They've made way too many mistakes for it to be fake!!! HAHAHAHA!!!! They're learning very fast though and honestly I'm extremely jealous of their location!!! I would give just about anything to have some land like that right near the water they were diving in!!!
@@ST-lo6fm how do you know that?
Thank you for sharing such a refreshing variety of amazing content, both educational and esthetically pleasing, rich with exotic landscapes, wildlife, and the fruits of a well lived, purposeful life. Hello from Oregon,
What happened to mushrooms and mail?
Goddess bless
I am 76 yo and after retiring from RN, I became a Certified Living Food Chef. Your garden obviously is enticing. Love and well wishes.
My great great grandpa built his own farm by hand with my great great grandma they raised their own food and made clothes for their kids. They loved each other very much it was hard work but they had a family of 14 and made every thing for them. He was born in 1889 and she 1905 she past early in her 60's but he in his 90's. My grandma loves seeing what you all are building it reminded her of her childhood. Thank you for making her smile.
Your property isn’t a mess, it’s a work in progress.
Humans always wreck the property they use. It is just part of what humans do on this planet.
Hopefully in the next few millions years she will be able to recover from what we have done in the last 150 years.
@@dstorm7752 you realize what they're taking down they're utilizing and using every bit of it down to compost. They're using way less resources than any of us in a typical home 😂
Hi there beautiful Nicole 💞💞💞💞1st comment
How are you doing today Nicole
Hello. My name's Mary and l'm from London. I wish everyone happiness 😘
I"m so happy to watch you both living in out of the city using firewood for cooking plnti g all kinds of vegies and fruits .God bless you.
Hi guys thanks for the vlogs I would recommend you to bee🐝 keeping less effort needed one or two hives, love you guys .
I’d be worried the bears will come for the fruit trees.
Bears are much smarter than we understand. They fully recognize and respect the fact that the manicured and landscaped part of the Forrest belongs to Jake and Nicole, everything else surrounding them is their territory. They are very aware of these boundaries and when and how they are allowed to cross over/onto Komorebi grounds. Of course, just as you said, they will want tastes of ALL the foods you are growing and bringing into their scent range, if they stand their ground and make the bears 💯 aware that it is strictly OFF LIMITS, believe it or not, they will respect this and steer clear. It isn't something that's necessary for them to survive, they've been getting along just fine for centuries w/out the glorious bounty that is on the new animals territory, and make no mistake, they will try to muscle their way to ownership of it all, but like I said, when they show up you need to be the dominant species and go outside to put your foot down!!!! Show them that you aren't afraid because it's MY HOME!!! NOT YOURS!!! This is the language they speak in and it will work, but only, ONLY if you show zero fear or hesitation!!!!!! Make them think you are willing to defend your property to the death and it will never have to come to that. That's the kind of resolve it will take though.....
They need to understand this is your food the same way the stuff in the Forrest is theirs, they have what they need and won't force it, that may cause injury or death, both of which the bears and all other things would like to avoid at all costs.....
@@jeffffro7674 wow! Thanks! It makes sense!! I’m sure the dogs help keep them away too. Well during the day anyway.
@@jeffffro7674 haha cool story bro :p remember when a bear broke into the yurt lol
Ha ha ha Nicole's face when jake was talking about soil, quality 🤣 very interesting ideas with the tree at the end there it starting to look good well jealous of the space you've got to work with 😁
Every week just can’t wait to see your new video, you guys make me dream for a while, you are a real inspiration, even for me at 62 yrs old, 😍😎🙏 from Quebec
Cabin, Yurt, or Sailboat??? Which of these three would you rather live in off the grid?
cabin-I always look forward to your videos. Been watching since you were in Arizona. Just amazed by what you both do. You inspired me to plant my first Jujube's and can't wait for them to fruit one day. Take care
Yurt or small cabin. Treehouse or train car would not be out of the possibilities... there are so many options really.
You want to stick frame cabin on one side and a green house on the other with a wood fired hot water boiler outside between them. You want a standing seam metal roof on strapping with 2.5 foot overhangs all around. Do stamped stained concrete radiant floors. Living on a sailboat, meh.

Hi Kevin thank you for watching over these two
It's unbelievable how fast all your plants grow. Just first of June and they look like ready to harvest. Everything looks so lush and green.
I want to be reincarnated and come back as one of your cats.
From where are you
These people are actors...
I have been watching your videos for years and i love how it's coming along it looks great. You guys must be so proud of all the work you've put into it
I’m glad you are following the Hugelkuture gardening.
And your property is beautiful. Why do people think they need to give you advice. They clearly do not see your OCD about things. Plus your work ethic. These peeps have it under control. Unless you have institutional knowledge, just stop.
It drives me insane all the people that think they would do better I bet ,any of the, don’t even mow their own lawn
Clickbait every time
Not at all once you realize that it’s for their only fans
I know isn't it great! MORE NICOLE LESS that guy thats there with her...😅🤣😂😇
Nicole is totally serving Bond Girl vibes with the wetsuit. Where you live is so incredible. Do you have a wooden dummy on the property for practice? That is how I discovered Jake way back on his old Arizona property. With all that wood you could a wooden dummy for everyone on the island
One of your best video`s yet, we loved it!
