  • LIVING OFF GRID in a FOREST CABIN - What We Cook & Eat | DIVING INSIDE a Secret OCEAN CAVE - Ep. 135 Jake and Nicole are trying to live off the grid in three main ways! Off the food grid, off the power grid, and off the transportation grid. Our plan to do this is by gardening, knowing native wild edible foods, fishing, sailing, and wind/solar panels! The May Flower Blood Supermoon caused the lowest tides we've ever seen called "Spring Tide" and exposed parts of the cliffs, rocks, and mini islands that we haven't seen before! The water level difference between low and high tide can sometimes be over 12 feet of water. We find a secret Cave and Dive inside! Watch to see what we find inside the cave. Then, we plant about 10 more fruit/nut trees and finish our chainsaw milled bushcraft style Hügelkultur style Raised Bed for 20 Tomato Plants! Stay tuned and subscribe to see how our off grid life turns out!

    It seems like your home could be called Tengoku (heaven)! It is such a labor of love. When you were on the landing looking out over the property I had a flashback to when you were first building the carport and there was nothing around but trees. It is incredible the paradise you have build with your blood, sweat, and (hopefully not too many, or only happy) tears. I hope for you both many, many years of bliss (and family, whenever that happens) to come. Thanks, as always, for bringing us along on your journey!

    This was a very nice satisfying visit. It showed a nice collection of work, play, planning and achievement.
    I think we knew you two have been working your little tookases off, but this was a nice chance to see what you have been able to put together.
    Como rebby is becoming a very nice homestead.
    Thank You for the little tour at the end. I can begin to see your vison for the orchard and garden.
    Once all that potential firewood is bucked up and stashed, you will have yourself a very nice center court and food source.
    you two have been very busy and it is really beginning to show. Thanks for letting us look over your shoulder.

    Hello beautiful couple jake and nicole, i have been watching your channel for the whole duration of lockdown here in Philippines. I had a realization. Where mostly people nowadays despise manual labor, i believe you too are truly exceptional human being. Considering you are coming from US and Canada you had a choice to live comfortable lives. But here you are keeping busy. I admire nicole she's very independent and strong woman. Take care of her Jake. She's one in a million. Love you two...

    The place where you were diving IS VERY MUCH A SACRED PLACE SIR!!!!!! YOU BETTER BELIEVE THAT!!!! In fact, the entire area where you're located is the same, it's incredibly important that spaces like that still exist, more so than most realize!!! I know I don't have to tell you two to love and respect the land but I am saying it anyway cause there are lots of people out there who truly don't know just how desperately we need to have every single inch of land like this!!!! It literally fuels our atmosphere and brings the necessary bits n bobs for life to thrive to nearly every inch of the planet!!!!
    There was something about the caves though that was so perfect. I think it may have been the secluded part of things, I bet it was unbelievably quiet in there!!!! That's the exact kind of place where a person can easily discover things they didn't know about themselves!!!!

    It's understandable if you don't film it, but at the same time......it would be super cool if we got to share it with you both!!!!!! My great great grandpa built his own farm by hand with my great great grandma they raised their own food and made clothes for their kids. They loved each other very much it was hard work but they had a family of 14 and made every thing for them. He was born in 1889 and she 1905 she past early in her 60's but he in his 90's. My grandma loves seeing what you all are building it reminded her of her childhood. Thank you for making her smile.

    I’d be worried the bears will come for the fruit trees.

    • @jeffffro7674
      @jeffffro7674 Před 3 lety +3

      Bears are much smarter than we understand. They fully recognize and respect the fact that the manicured and landscaped part of the Forrest belongs to Jake and Nicole, everything else surrounding them is their territory. They are very aware of these boundaries and when and how they are allowed to cross over/onto Komorebi grounds. Of course, just as you said, they will want tastes of ALL the foods you are growing and bringing into their scent range, if they stand their ground and make the bears 💯 aware that it is strictly OFF LIMITS, believe it or not, they will respect this and steer clear. It isn't something that's necessary for them to survive, they've been getting along just fine for centuries w/out the glorious bounty that is on the new animals territory, and make no mistake, they will try to muscle their way to ownership of it all, but like I said, when they show up you need to be the dominant species and go outside to put your foot down!!!! Show them that you aren't afraid because it's MY HOME!!! NOT YOURS!!! This is the language they speak in and it will work, but only, ONLY if you show zero fear or hesitation!!!!!! Make them think you are willing to defend your property to the death and it will never have to come to that. That's the kind of resolve it will take though.....
      They need to understand this is your food the same way the stuff in the Forrest is theirs, they have what they need and won't force it, that may cause injury or death, both of which the bears and all other things would like to avoid at all costs.....

      You want to stick frame cabin on one side and a green house on the other with a wood fired hot water boiler outside between them. You want a standing seam metal roof on strapping with 2.5 foot overhangs all around. Do stamped stained concrete radiant floors. Living on a sailboat, meh.
