- Hello wolf pack. I bring to you another delicious, decadent, dangerously soothing campfire cooking video! I love venturing out into the middle of the woods with my backpack and creating a mouth watering meal among the elements of nature. I hope you enjoy listening to the calming sounds, take in the beauitful atmosphere and have your mouth water a bit at the yummy meal I made. This was my first time making a whole leg of lamb, over a fire, things were cooking VERY slowly so I decided to use the caveman method again and put the meat directly on the coals. Who needs a grill anyway??

IMHO, I think more people came here for the girl. I mean, think about it. There's got to be a bunch of videos out there on cooking lamb WITH voice instruction, which I think would be pretty helpful. Why would anyone who dreams about cooking the most delicious lamb meal for themself or family, would choose this video as their go to to learn from. I think it has more to do with guys wanting to see this pretty girl in tight pants on video for 26 minutes. That makes more sense to me.
Having said that, I came here to learn to make a campfire.

As a young kid of 11 years old i would go out into the mequite trees in West Texas and cook up my breakfast of eggs, bacon, potatoes, chili and tortillas, it just tasted better out there.

You must be new. She has been camping, hunting, and cooking for years. She sometimes will mention how old she was when she first started them.
It actually adds flavor. You just have to brush off any molar-busting chunks that stick, which she does when she swabs it again

The most impressive thing about the whole thing is how she was able to eat an entire leg of lamb and 20 potatoes all by herself within a few minutes. Truly impressive indeed!

If you've never had lamb...stop what you're doing, go to the store, buy some and make it. It's amazing.
As someone who spent over 40 years as a Chef, over 60 years cooking over an open fire, and many years teaching both, I would say she did a very good job. There are a few techniques where some minor improvements could be made, but only 1 major mistake that I saw. Never reach your fingers into your spice jars, because now all the spices remaining in those jars are contaminated with raw lamb and should be thrown away. Always shake the spices into your palm, use what you need, and discard the remaining, as she did with the fennel. That way the contents of the jars stay clean. A better practice for outdoor cooking, such as this, is to use smaller bottles and only carry what you need. Not only does this lessen the chances of contamination, but it saves space and weight in your pack.

@@beezeal2042 nope, only 66. My parents were hard-core campers, as were my grandparents, so I started cooking over an open fire at a very young age. And I got my first job as an assistant cook at 15.

@@beezeal2042 momma and grandma had me in the kitchen at home helping out at 5. Found out the hard way why you should only work a potato peeler away from you. Grandma picked the piece of my thumb out of the peelings, washed it and my thumb off with peroxide, stuck me back together with a bandaid, and told me to get back to work, I still had carrots left to peel once I was done with the potatoes. I firmly believe if I had needed stitches, she just would had gotten out her sewing basket and done it herself. And still would have expected me to finish peeling the vegetables.
Finally some advices instead of compliments ,
Nothing tastes better than a meal cooked on a campfire. In the winter my favorite thing is to put skins on my skis and tour into the Bridger Range mid winter. Getting a snowshoe hare is my goal, but I bring backup food just in case I don’t see one. Snowshoes are ghosts, so hard to even see one let alone get a good shot. I’ve only got 2 in the 12 days or so I’ve spent out in the mountains in deep snowpack, but it’s so rewarding to get one, make a fire, cook, and wolf down that whole hare. Might be -10 degrees that night but it’s the most peaceful sleep I ever have.
That LAMB smell must have been out of your campfire WORLD....YUMMY!!!

Cooking and eating food in the forest is exciting! It is something I have grown to love over the years. My first experience with camping cooking was ten years ago, just one month after coming to America my partner and his friends took me for two nights kayak camping in Pine Creek, PA. They slammed a big steak on the coal. Steak, grilled veggies, roasted potatoes and Jim beam was on the menu that night. I was a vegetarian back then, so I skipped on the steak but everything else tasted heavenly. What an adventure it was, I still get excited thinking about it. 😁

Here's a tip for when you hang meat over a fire: twist the string many times and let it unwind so the meat keeps spinning.
Using that method, the leg of lamb would alternate spinning clockwise and counter-clockwise, ensuring the meat gets even heat. When the leg stops spinning, wind the string up again.
I don’t see how that would work with the wire she had and you’d literally have to wind up every 3 minutes or so???
