  • In this episode I host a dialogue between Tibetologist and Tantric Buddhist Lama Glenn Mullin and doctor of Tibetan Medicine and Yuthok Nyingthig spiritual teacher Dr Nida Chenagtsang.
Lama Glenn and Dr Nida discuss impact of three key revolutionary figures in Tibetan Buddhism from historical and doctrinal perspectives: Padmasambhava, Atisha, and Tsongkhapa.
The discussion extends to include the history and evolution of the famous 6 Yogas of Naropa. Both Lama Glenn and Dr Nida are known to teach these hitherto secretive practices relatively openly, and they discuss the issues that have influenced them to do so, including prophecy, the true meaning of secrecy, and the importance of including the body in religious practice.
Lama Glenn and Dr Nida also discuss subjects such as the geomancy of Samye and the surrounding areas, the pros and cons of the multiplicity of religious sects in Tibet, similarities between Buddhist lineages and Western psychological schools, and more.

There is another reason for secrecy re Highest Yoga Tantra: because it involves manipulation of very subtle body energies it must be handled very skilfully and precisely otherwise physical imbalances can occur as well as mental one’s as the energy winds and our mind which rides in dependence upon them are intimately related. An example would be misapplication of tummo techniques.

Hello dear Guru Viking. Thank you very much for your work, I found it quite inspiring for my own practice. I was wondering if you maybe could give me your opinion on a question I am having regarding my own meditation practice right now. In your experience, would you say that intermittend fasting, not eating after solar noon, is something beneficial to the practice? Maybe even required to do for achieving deeper meditation?
I would be happy to hear your opinion on this matter.

Very good. Both Glen and Nida have real knowledge of the tradition according to Buddhist accounts. The Bonpo say there was a fully enlightened tradition in Tibet way before Buddhism, with the nine stages complete, that Buddhists tried to wipe out in Tibet. Sangarakshita a demon who persecuted the Bonpos, including burning whole communities in their Bon temples which were destroyed. Bonpos given the choice of converting, death, or exile. Padmasambhava, probably a mythical and pseudo epigraphic device anyway, was a son of a Bon siddha who saved Bon texts by changing various names so they looked Buddhist. So many Buddhist termas, they say, are Bon texts adapted for the times. I don't know what the absolute historical truth is, all I can assert is that the Buddhist account might be a little skewed and self exculpatory. But enjoyed hearing these two Buddhist scholars and all round good guys imo.

First we have to define object of negation. "Self" is too vague. This is the key point of Lama Tsongapha. We negate independent of cause and conditions, unchangle, indivisible, self existing entity we label and expeerience of self. Emptiness means our exsitense is absent of this partifcular seld. Which is not complete negation of existense per se. So training make sense if is just creation of causes for sanity based in realisitc view of reality Anyhow thats my limited understanding
