Nonsense he was never in that position, they were both top tier, number 1 drivers. there was only once in Monaco 2014 I believe where he was holding up a much faster Lewis in the wet and asked to move over. He held station in Malaysia 2013. Ross maybe feeling he had enough chances to pass Lewis and failed each time. Bottas, contrary to popular opinion always puts himself in this predicament because of his race craft. Remember him holding back against a crippled Seb in Spain I think..
he just doesn`t have the speed, hence he falls away in the championship and enters the `help your teammate zone`. Which is not the same as when Ferrari told Leclerc to hold station in Australia of all places. Charles answered this nonsense with his driving.. Something Bottas has never done. Remember 2017 or 2018 Hungary? Bottas moved over, Hamilton failed to catch the Ferraris then he moved over for Bottas. Why because it was still early in the season. Peace

TradingKid1998 I’m not a rosberg fan. He might of cheated(IDK) in his defence Monaco is a hard track and quali is where drivers push at max. Also, Lewis made the call to pit in Monaco apparently so that’s on him and they didn’t gift him wins. Hamilton is a great driver and so is rosberg but Hamilton fans are stupid. They never accept that Lewis was beaten. In 2013, I don’t know what you are talking about, nico drove well and won. Simple. Also, this was like the only season ever that Lewis had worse reliability than nico in his entire career

if I remember correctly I saw Nico in a talkshow on german tv after his wdc win were he spoke a bit about why he retired. I didn't tune in in time and its a while ago but if remember correctly he said something along the likes of really having the dream of becoming a world champion but knowing that he wouldn't become the best of all time, outscoring Schumacher and so on and that he was under immense pressure even before the start of the season and suffered from that but just wanted to win a championship or something like that.
Some people say that he ultimately surrendered to the pressure and I can see where this view comes from but in my opinion that makes his achievements by no means smaller but maybe even greater. He knew his biggest problems/"fears" and he faced them and not only overcame his opponents but himself to achieve his biggest goal. After he won the Championship he already was a Formula One World Champion, it doesn't get any better for almost all racing drivers or athletes in general then ultimately becoming the worlds best in their sport. So he retired with the biggest achievement he could imagine.
That sounds more theatrical than i imagined but sums up what I personally think about it. He knew he couldn't become the best of all times (more than 7 WDC's) so he retired being the best of the season, far more than most drivers ever come close to.
I was not even a Nico fan in that year but I highly respect the decision to leave on a high than to drag himself along for a few years, achieving maybe one, maybe none other title in god knows how many seasons instead he now is with his family and can go to races when he wants to, not when he has to

Is it, really? During these last laps when Lewis was slowing Nico down into Vetel and Verstappen, he must have realized that Mercedes can't (or won't) control Lewis, and that he'd always get priority. It was an easy decision for him at that point, and I fully understand him.
It was also an unbearable situation: had they continued next year and Lewis won (which was much more likely, considering the treatment he was getting from the team), Nico would have to stay and listen to b.s. like how he wasn't actually as good as Lewis. By deciding to retire then and there, he'd be forced to listen what a coward he is and how he should defend. There really wasn't a good solution to this.
But I am ultimately glad for Nico and how things turned out. He did leave a mark in F1 and I wish him to have a great life together with his family.

It's pretty clear that Lewis had more natural talent and was overall a superior driver when he really tried. But in 2016 Nico clearly had better preparation and that year hard work and dedication triumphed over natural genius. Lewis, undoubtedly would lkhave come out hard against Nico the next year and Merc couldn't really do much about it. So, after achieving his lifelong dream, he decided to retire on a high than take the immense pressure of defending the title against a raging Hamilton and ending it in disappointment.
