- In this video, we show how to diagnose an ignition coil module that is not producing a spark and how easy it is to replace it with a Hipa quality replacement part. The chainsaw model is a Stihl MS180, but the procedure is similar on many different chainsaw models as well as other small machines with 2-stroke engines such as blowers and trimmers.

Thank you so much for this video. Great camera angles. Your ability to communicate and instruct is exceptional! Well done.
Sir you are a star, I have had the MS170 Stihl version for many years. Recently it has been a pig to start or not start at all > fuel mixture was correct so only left ignition. Thanks to your video I stripped down the machine as far as checking the coil and gap. Although I had never touched it the gap was nearly non existant how it worked before beats me. After cleaning up the coil from gunk I reset the gap to .009 " as you suggested and reassembled. Couple of cord pulls and it started.
I can't thank you enough for your excellent video
nice video! helped me with my chainsaw stihl ms170 :D thx
That small twin hole spacer under the coil is typically a thermal bridge to reduce the heat from the cylinder from migrating into the coil and it’s electronics… yes the fasteners do act as sinks buy less than a direct placement…
I find that a brass feeler gauge works pretty well also to set your gap. Nice video by the way. Thanks.
Brass ones are great. Thanks!
A coil Can fire and still be bad. That said, you just about gotta have the PET 9000 ignition analyzer to tell whether or not the ignition timing portion of the coil is working or not
Been racking my brain new coil, plug flywheel. Missing plastic piece underneath. Thank you.
thanks
torx bit on Stihl is T27
