Actually she can call her bank take him off the accounts and report that her bank account card was stolen from her by her ex-boyfriend who she just broke up with because he was a gold digger & a thief. And she can call the police on him to get him away from her property & sue the realtor for not having her name on the paperwork. There are so many reasons to have separate accounts that don't boil down to: I don't trust my partner. What if one of you is the victim of fraud? What if one of you develops a mental illness? What if your partner has a good bit of debt that they don't want to burden you with. After being in banking for the last few years, I can confirm that if they are on the same bank account (I.E. a primary and joint owner) she can't do anything about him using the money from an account standpoint. Once you agree to have someone else on your account (or to be on someone else's account with them), the finances within that account are now legally accessible to all primary/joint owners and can be used in any way that each individual person sees fit. The only exception to this rule can depend on the type of account, such as POAs, children's accounts, and more.

Once you agree to have someone else on your account (or to be on someone else's account with them), the finances within that account are now legally accessible to all primary/joint owners and can be used in any way that each individual person sees fit.
