For terrarium’s is moss necessary? I’m a beginner
@@cartergames7032No but it looks amazing
Think we need a counter for the amount of times I said ‘terrarium’😅
To make the cover disks, buy a cheap poster frame and cut circles in the plastic. It's less expensive than acrylic
I am very glad I found this channel. I used your video on how to make a terrarium guide and made one for Mother’s Day.
i'm glad that i have found your channel. I started doing terrariums and ecosystems thanks to you and your inspiring videos. Thank you!
Same here
Glad you’re finding the videos useful & thank you for watching:)
Ive only gotten about 3 stable terrariums setup after my first big bioactive vivarium i made for some day geckos- but! Something i found is that a little cling wrap and a rubber band around the mouth of the terrarium vessel works just as well as the acrylic discs you mentioned:)
that's true! i use it this method too :D
Yet again another really good vid.. brought some oak leaf fig an planted cuttings an yep now i hav an endless supply.. lovely plant dont you think.
A beautiful work... ❤
Thanks for the tips. 👍
In other of your videos you said that for a closed terrarium we would need springtails. Do we or not? I would be pleased to hear no, because I don’t want anything escaping and crawling through my home…
I use springtails in pretty much all my terrariums, but you can still make a healthy terrarium without them. Springtails are great because they eat things like mold & decaying plant leaves. If you choose not to use them you will have to be more on top of maintenance (removing dead leaves & mold etc…). Its still totally possible to make a healthy terrarium without so give it a go:)
@@TerrariumDesigns thanks for your answer!
@TerrariumDesigns Where can I get springtails? Because I have been having trouble finding them.
@@lovelytea2610 amazon sells them.
Great technique. Keep up the great work ☺☺
Thank you
Seen you video clip saying not in direct sunlight. Had mine in kitchen window for 2 months and is looking really well is it because it has no lid that's it's doing ok
Hiii!!! My terrarium has been there for 6 months and some ficus and moss leaves are yellow. The substrate has worms casting, but I don't know if it is a lack of nutrients. ):
Please tell me how much wattage is suitable for growing plants in a terrarium? of LED stand lamp , dimmable led ?
Lovethe new vid
Thanks for the nice video! But what water should I use for my Terraruim?
I use dechlorinated tap water:)
@@TerrariumDesigns Thank you!
I've been trying to cultivate some mosses but I believe two of my biggest issues are lighting and substrate. Any help?
I always like the tutorial. Just want to know what is the main difference between coconut fibre and coconut coir? I purchased locally from store, what I received looks more like fibre strand even though the supplier package called that coir.
it is just another name for this same thing, do not worry :P
Do I still need to water a close bioactive vivarium with a pond?
I’m about to make my first terrarium ever and I don’t want to screw up what are the must buys
Where do you get the acrylic round tops? I have seen you use them multiple times and I have searched your site but I may have missed it.
They have them on Amazon.
knowing how much to water and knowing when you overwatered is tricky
It definitely is!
Thank you, a lot of great tips! I did my second terrarium about 4 months ago, with coffee plants, fittonia and moss - now the fittonia leaves look a bit pale and some have fallen, may it be too little light or water? There are little new leaves so I hope I can save the plants, I really like them 😅 the coffee and the moss instead are green and happy, so at least something is doing good 😅
Sounds like is might just have been acclimation die off which is normal:)
I’ve built some terrariums and the plants always do well but the moss always seems to struggle. It always either dies out or loses its color. Do you have advice on how to keep moss alive and vibrant?
If the plants are healthy, it may not be you! Some species of moss are not suited to living in a terrarium. Check the species of the moss you use and look it up. Common mosses that work well in terrariums include cushion moss, fern moss, tamarisk moss, java moss, sphagnum moss and sheet moss. You can probably find at least one of these species in a forest near you, or you can buy them. Hope this helps, and good luck!
Thankyou for this. I do have question
Does normal LED light works?
And for how many hours does the lights needs to be on?
Normal LEDs work great:) I’ve used a desk lamp before & the plants loved it! For most of my ecosystems I have the lights on for 12 hours & off for 12 hours
@@TerrariumDesigns thankyou so much. New subscriber here :)
I made a fake bottom terrarium but I accidentally over-watered it on the first day, but even now the moss and the spider plants love it the fake bottom is almost full and the soil is always damp so should I let the water evaporate or should I leave it be?
As long as the plants stay healthy, don't change anything! It sounds like you watered it the right amount, as the substrate should always stay damp!
can i use a plastic terrarium
Tutorial on how to root plants?
Leva is similar to tepojal?
When you say the substrate looks damp, do you mean the whole surface of the substrate? The parts you can see against the glass? Or the like five drops you did in the video. Should I stick the pipette into the dirt and spray!!
I look at the side of the glass, it’s gets really hard to see the surface when moss & plants grow in. The moisture level of the substrate would be more or less the same on the top as on the sides. You don’t need to stick it in the dirt & you can put the water anywhere & it will find its way to the substrate:)
My first terrarium is 2 week old and it started too much mold on the surface of the soil. .i added fittonia, turtle vine, artillery plant and dried pine leaves. Pls help.
Don’t worry too much as mold is very common in the first few weeks of a terrariums life. That begin said mold can also occur when the terrarium has too much water. You can get rid of the mold my manually removing it, with time the ecosystem will balance & the mold will clear up. Springtails are also a huge help as they love to eat mold:)
Do you know how to propagate asparagus?
In my terrariums, the plants are growing nicely after 130 days. But the moss has gotten moldy. I added springtails, but the moss mold is still present. What am I doing wrong?
not every species feel good in terrariums, maybe that's the reason. However maybe it pass with time?
❤
you know my problem with keeping terrariums is rolly-polly's they just keep eating the leaves of the plants and when i try to remove them they already laid eggs in the soil and i guess some mites entered the terrariums and have made the plants weaker how should i do it?
Unfortunately they like to eat certain plant species. Ferns & ficus work really well in isopod setups
If I make a ecosystem with animals do I need to feed them? Because I’m just getting started
It depends what animals you put in it!
My carpet moss always dries up and I do not put it in direct sunlight also . So what's the issue and solution to this
Please help 😥😥
The issue could be:
1. The lid is not closed properly/airtight. You could either get a new lid, or you will have to spray the terrarium with water every few days.
2. You did not water it enough to begin with. Spray the substrate until it is completely damp - not wet!
3. You did not press down the moss. To fix, gently press the moss into the substrate. This will allow it to wick up the water.
Good luck!
Could I use snail poop instead of worm castings? I have my own pet snails so this would be much cheaper for me.
@@jcalvioficialyes. Are you not familiar with the species?
poop is poop so it should work fine as far as i know
I've had my terrarium for about a year, and it has consistently been slowly dying ever since, I maintain water, indirect sunlight, and it is still dying. Is it something with the climate where I live, Colorado, being too dry? There are some bits that are still alive, but 70-80% is brown.
Oh no:( what plants did you use?
@@TerrariumDesigns Just moss, I don't remeber what type
Avicularia juruensis terrarium pleasee
I want springtails please help
Nice😁

to goat has goated again
I put slices of strawberry in a few of my terries and the isopods showed zero interest 😂 I've out cucumber in there before and the were all over it 🤷🏾 the springtails are loving all the mold, though 😅
What if I don't have a kepet and a spray bottle bc I don't have them
You can use a small cup to water, just be very careful about how much water to add.
@@awildpersonappeared ok
I created one small terrarium but moss deied out completely once summer came
my biggest problem is huge mess after making a terrarium 😂
Haven’t found a fix for that one yet😂
im second!
I’m first!!
Didn’t you make this video already?
Made a similar one over a year ago, wanted to add a bit more info in some of the tips as well as trying to improve the video quality:)
Well you better not watch this one of you've seen the other one! 😂🙄 What if he learned something since the previous? I know every time I make a new terrarium I learn something 🤷🏾
this is so skibidi, i needed this boost of fanum tax
Stop decline of the last 2-3 words of each phrase
Rude!
@@Tomy_Yon practical advice. Nothing bad or accusatory.
Do you have any idea why there is random cobwebs in my terrarium?
Random spider probably… I leave it as long as it doesn’t get too big
@@TherealNOQ but the cobwebs are big and everywhere and there’s only a tiny spider in there
