    Brilliant gate! I really would like to see a tutorial video for your alternative doors. Thank you for sharing.

      Thanks Jacob :) I will definitely keep that in mind, I'll aim to bring it out around the time of one of my future projects it'll work well with!

      Thanks! Keeping things as modular and reusable as possible while still looking good is my main goal for this stuff :)

    I was watching through this again and the intro with you building and rebuilding the tower gave me an idea that I don't want to loose so I am writing it here. You can make these block pieces with some kind of battle damage on them and then they can be used to show where combat has taken place or a giant monster attacked. This would be especially useful on a location you were returning to after an amount of time has passed in your campaign to show changes in the building and/or environment.

      I think I show this already for this system? I think it's in the walls video, or the 'how to use the system' video :)
      Basically rubble additions you use to show destroyed sections!

    Here is an idea: I saw you have to move the thin base of the gate every time the gat needs to move. You can add a magnet under the gate (indented in the front and back or in the centre).
    The thin base can have a plate for the magnet to grab onto and the base will now lift with the gate while moving it.
    I hope it does not squash the thin base while doing this. Just a thought to make moving the gate with its stone base a little easier.

      Honestly if I made it now thats what I'd do :) I made this before I got heavily in to using magnets in the builds 😅

      @@RPArchiveOfficial It is never too late to revisit classic builds.
      Perhaps for the gaint's gate one day. 👍

    Ever thought of doing an update video with your current system. I know you mentioned you were gonna do smaller build videos after the sewer project.

    • @RPArchiveOfficial
      @RPArchiveOfficial  Před 8 měsíci +1

      It's planned :) but as you say it'll be a big deal when it lands as its basically the core of the whole system, so I want to take my time with it and do it as a larger group of videos that all release together, a bit like the sewers. its in the coming up, but not soon, category!

    How would you add a portcullis to the gate?

    • @RPArchiveOfficial
      @RPArchiveOfficial  Před 3 lety +1

      To keep it still modular, you'd have to build it twice as tall to have a foam section to pull the portcullis up into :)

    How many peaces did you have to make to be able to build what you did in the beginning of this video

    Does your XPS come in black? In the US it's pink, blue, or green...

    • @RPArchiveOfficial
      @RPArchiveOfficial  Před 4 lety +2

      It's more like dark grey. We used to get the blue stuff more commonly over here, apparently now the black stuff is being imported more.
      From what I can tell its properties are closer to American foam than German styrodur. Styrodur is easier to texture but doesn't have the same elastic quality that helps my connection systems work :)
      I know north American foam has that same elasticity though, BMC has talked about it in some detail.
      Basically I think it's pretty much the same stuff as US foam, just a different colour :)

    • @TheDrewjameson
      @TheDrewjameson Před 4 lety +1

      @@RPArchiveOfficial that's what I figured, but it must be nice not to have to cover up pale pastel colors if you're making something that's going to wind up grey! :)

    • @RPArchiveOfficial

    Why is the arch piece made from 4 3x1x1/2 pieces and not one solid piece?

    • @RPArchiveOfficial
      @RPArchiveOfficial  Před 4 lety +1

      You can absolutely make it from one thick piece, but there are two reasons I mentioned thinner pieces.
      One is to make it easier for knife users to cut.
      The second is to make sure anyone using the template doesn't end up with a more sloped cut by pushing against the wire too much - with a thinner piece this would be less noticeable!
      Hope that explains my reasoning :)

    I have a wonderful little historic tid-bit for you all, as it is mentioned in the video. There are no evidence that boiling oil was ever used in sieges. And it wouldn't make sense either, when you think about it. Water does the same thing when boiled, without being as expensive or dangerous to your own castle.

    A modular gate needs a modular portcullis.

    Awesome build, But you need to invest in a decent microphone. Your audio is muddy as hell, you sound so muffled.
