Woody Allen showing what a great physical comic actor he was. The scene is so beautiful and funny and sad. It's like a ballet. I can watch it again and again.
So well put..it's almost.... poetic, right? Who knows a comedy can be all of that, and more? I have seen this film more than 300 times and it never fails to make me laugh and touch my heart. Since then it's so hard for me to see movies coz I always compare the experience with films like this one
@@nensi1972 Glad to see someone appreciate this scene as much as I do if not more. Woody made self consciousness so funny. For twenty years he produced the most funniest art I've ever seen.
One of the funniest things ever committed to celluloid. Notice how Jennifer Salt and Tony Roberts at the end have to cover their faces to keep from bursting out laughing and ruining the scene. Brilliant visual comedy as only Woody can do it...playing a bumbling inept loser-with-women.
I've watched this scene a lot-of times; I never realized, before, that the only-time when "Allan" is composed is when he's just-being-himself, and being a considerate-guy, when he turns-the-music-down.
Easily 3:40 of the funniest stuff ever put on film hahaha! Damn Woody was hilarious back in the day. This is excruciating to watch because he is like the most awkward man on Earth. How NOT to say Hi to a blind date? Raise your arm and grunt "Hu-uhh!" Oh my God this is sooooo funny :)
How hard it must’ve been for the three actors to be in the scene with Woody and not break character laughing. Pretty strong actors to keep it together.
0:14 - 0:36 :))) Woody was brilliant in this movie (one of my favorite). 1:21 - 1:37 :D :D He was very cute and funny.Allen as Allan :) ,definitely not my type (outlook),but so sweet that he terribly wants to like to this girl after his divorce!!! x) I'm also an "intellectuel" movie lover person, otherwise. 2:10 A very blind date!!! :D 3:23 ... 3:35 ... XDXDXDXDXDXD Our Favorite Movie with My Big Brother is the 'Play It Again,Sam' (1972, Directed by Herbert Ross). We saw this at least 20-30x (On good old VHS-I have this cassette! ;) with hungarian dubbing when I was teen in the '90's and we see together this in the theater too with hungarian actors (yes,i'm Hungarian :). We laughed so much... x)) Our emotional life are also deep (and sometimes very difficult) as his figures in usually...sensitive humans. :) And Our Parents's favorite was the 'Take the money and run' (1969, leading role and directed by Allen)... :D Woody is Woody, Great! :)
The first time i saw this movie was short after my girlfriend has left me and it was so perfect. Exactly the same feelings... but it was also somehow very funny.
Left out the best bit . The bit where he's saying goodnight at her building, he turns away and starts talking like Bogey, she slips inside, closes the door behind her just he turns to have slammed in face ,while he's going " you know a guy like me,and a Dame like you" SLAM!! HAHAHA
FYI: Allen brushing the lamp with the coat, scratching the needle off the record, and the complete destruction of the set in the last 20 seconds of the scene was unscripted. The reactions of the other actors was genuine, and the corpsing you see in Tony Roberts is him gamely attempting not to break character before cut was called.
A friend of mine first showed me this scene when I was in university, and still massively funny 30 years later! My favorite Woody Allen scene. Here is my second favorite: czcams.com/video/upm444PAxyo/video.html
This cracks me up, and rings so many bells in terms of memories of trying to impress someone. For example years ago I running to impress this young woman. However as it had just rained (washing memories off the sidewalk of life no doubt!), I turned the corner and barelled over on some wet grass, in turn ripping a gaping hole in my trousers and revealing my arse. Continued walking down the street like it was nothing whilst inside just waiting to see what else I could screw up that day.~~
Interesting how Allen was thought of as a 60's celebrity when he really was not a baby boomer in any sense. Of course, neither was Bob Dylan or John Lennon for that matter. But Woody did not identify with the hippie generation at all and never lost an opportunity to show his disdain for them.
I love the incoherent grunt in place of an actual hello.
"You were all out of bourbon so I made it straight water" -- priceless!
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I love the rain. It washes memories off the sidewalk of life. lol
I love the rain. It reminds me of how wet my ex-wife would get.
my old man's favorite line. that and the quart of bourbon line.
I cannot watch this without cracking tf up no matter how many times I see it (I've seen it countless times)
I have to say I have seen this film more than 300 times and it never fails to make me laugh.
Yes, I concur!!!!!
I agree as well. By the end of this clip I'm practically in tears from laughing so hard.
Woody's nervous, fumbling first meeting with model Jennifer Salt, is the true comic highlight of this very funny film...
I've alway's remembered the record flying out of it's sleeve, lol!!!!!!!

I've actually used, "I love the rain, it washes memories off the sidewalk of life", on a blind date, as a joke.
... It didn't land for me either.
=/
Tony Roberts....the original 'cell-phoner'....
It's a masterclass in comedy, I can watch this over & over
His first grunt Hello is a scream---
Love this movie. Its the perfect companion piece to Annie Hall
Sharon was rock'n that Suzy Quatro hairstyle.
"Tremendous poise. I'm an absolute master". And then screws the whole thing up. Genius
One of the funniest scenes in possibly his funniest film
"It washes memories of the sidewalk of life " ! - The funniest scene in cinema history !
Some of the 3 funniest minutes in cinematic history!!! aka....funniest shit ever!
You can also hear someone wheeze. I don’t think anyone knew that was coming! Brilliant.
0:35 LOL
I've watched this scene a lot-of times; I never realized, before, that the only-time when "Allan" is composed is when he's just-being-himself, and being a considerate-guy, when he turns-the-music-down.
Alan is a trifle tense.
He's ALMOST as cool as me!!!!!
“Technically not dead but we’re not dating...” 😂
The last 50 seconds are absolute genius, the chair scene at the end is up there with the best of them :D

They cover their faces to not laugh- Was that in the script or a real reaction?
How hard it must’ve been for the three actors to be in the scene with Woody and not break character laughing. Pretty strong actors to keep it together.
I think they all laugh at the end. Tony Roberts bites his hand to keep from laughing
Watch the very end of the scene: Everyone is trying not to laugh.
How do you not laugh?
"Sharon" (the blind date) actually starts laughing a split second before it happens. lol
Just when you think it can't get any worse... it gets worse.
So well timed.
had she stayed there any longer, he would have burnt down the entire house.
lol
😁😂😂
Takes me back to my younger days with my flat mate coming back drunk and putting this film on while eating Chinese food
Classic comedy scene 😂

Love and Death, pinnacle of his early work. Radio Days best middle period. Interiors best drama. Yay, Woody!
Physical comedy at its best. Michael Richards too.
“Tremendous poise “ 😂😂
I'm going home, I'm going to brush all my teeth ...
LOL! Really, one of his best!
Oh, my, I had no idea Woody Allen was this funny... :) And he is very authentic in being a.... hm, Woody Allen?
I remember laughing at the flying record almost 50 years ago. Never forgot it.
So good it hurts!
Brilliant & hilarious! Woody is the best!
Hilariously funny
One of the funniest scenes I've ever scene.
So funny. It pains me to say it, but there doesn't seem to be ANYTHING out there in cinema that is purely and innocently funny like this.
This is pretty much total slapstick...but ..geez ...I always have hysterics watching it😂
"You should have them drained" lmao
i love this film so funny
tears laughing
Love this movie!
Most hilarious scene.
They are trying so hard not to laugh. That was well-choreographed awkwardness!
Soooo... bloody funny....
"Tremendous poise!"
I say this to myself before every date. Sometimes it works...
In that case you must be an absolute master. Or mistress.
GENIUS GENIUS GENIUS❤❤❤
For toe curling comedy this can't be beaten....
Grande film
The first time i saw this movie was short after my girlfriend has left me and it was so perfect. Exactly the same feelings... but it was also somehow very funny.
This isn’t a deleted scene. Fabulous movie. One of Allen’s best.
So freaking funny
Is Tony Roberts corpsing at the end of that scene or what?!
Funny as hell. The Twerp meeting a Fringe kind of girl.
Left out the best bit . The bit where he's saying goodnight at her building, he turns away and starts talking like Bogey, she slips inside, closes the door behind her just he turns to have slammed in face ,while he's going " you know a guy like me,and a Dame like you" SLAM!! HAHAHA

3:20 ..............i cracked myself up.
a sign of an excellent comedian is when the rest of the cast tries to hide their laughter
priceless hahaha
Are you wearing jasmine lol at woody's face
😅😂😅😂😅😂😅 brilliant woody allan at his best
Now, if you add a kid's basketball board in scene ...you know, those Nerf boards, basketball ...would be cool 🏀🎬
This movie is very funny!!!
😂😂 i know The feeling
"Hhhhuhhh!"
Hinnhh!
just a little nervous, but it's within the norm for Woody Allen's character
A friend of mine first showed me this scene when I was in university, and still massively funny 30 years later! My favorite Woody Allen scene. Here is my second favorite: czcams.com/video/upm444PAxyo/video.html

No actors like him in this time. A bad actors
I'm pretty into underground cinema, I'd be willing to give Gangbang a watch or two.
I'm no longer gonna be at 431 5997,
