My wife asked how long I thought our ammo and reloading materials would last. 12 years if we ration, 4 years if we don't and 72 hours if required.
True story. Many don't realize how quickly your "amazing stockpile" will go if you actually need to use it someday.
It's so much more expensive than people think
Damn brother lol
Then I'm good for at least 2 weeks..
Are you clowns thinking you’re gonna be kicking in doors in a multi day firefight? Put the Xbox controller down and touch grass.
People don’t trust the supply chain.
Yahtzee!
👍🏿👍🏾👍🏽👍👍🏼👍🏻
Almost by definition, when SHTF, there won't be a supply train for both guns and ammo; it'll be one of the first things that are stopped by governments at different levels.. At that point, what you got is all that you'll likely have.
No. They don't trust the government.
That’s the answer.
Wife asked if I had enough ammo....she wasn't amused when I told her there was still some on the store shelves.
Lol good one
🤣lmao sounds like me and my wife
The question is null, the answer is always no if the question is do you have enough guns, bullets, and beers?
You poor guy. My wife loves to shoot, enjoys having a stockpile of not only ammo, but food, blankets, et cetera in the house. Every time we go to the range she targets a golf ball at 30 yards with two handguns, one 22lr and one 9mm, open sights, unsupported standing. Generally takes her about two shots to hit it with each caliber.
@@w.va.patriot9118 When she asks why do you need 15 guns just tell her that a gun is a tool, you need a couple of hammers, pliers, screwdrivers and see what she says to that.
As the Feds make more and more noise about tracking gun buyers, ammo buyers and people who don't express the correct opinions on social media, many of us are motivated to stockpile ammo before it brings the scrutiny of the BATFE.
I don't particularly give rat's ass if they track me..why you ask. You know what they say bout...if you have to ask!
Stand up in mass we out number them
One thing to consider - is by definition, government is literally filled with an overwhelming number of incompetent and inept employees. And those are the ones that tend to get promoted.
@@chrismartinez8393 yes we do but sadly we won't until it's to late.

@@coldlyanalytical1351 That is smart on her part. If someone tries to snatch her "open carry" prop gun and turn it on her, she could draw her real gun and take care of things.

Went to the range and my neighbor was looking at all my shells like it was gold. Crazy what it costs to train. Even scarier when you don’t train because you can’t afford to. 🇺🇸
You don't necessarily need money.
Do what I did and get a Lazer system it works
I train with 22lr
It’s called dry-fire training. You might also look into a Mantis.
once a month I Go blasting with my guns, good times.
My wife encouraged me to stockpile more ammo. I was surprised - I thought I had plenty of each caliber, but she thought it necessary to have more. God I love her!
I'm not one to go out and buy 1000 rolls of toilet paper when there is a pandemic but with this "no cash bail" law in Illinois starting January 1st, I'm buying more ammo than I usually would.
Only problem is with all the laws going into effect there, if you have to use any, YOU will be the one going to jail.
Saying an extra prayer for all the law-abiding citizens of IL.
Leave no wigglers!
No cash bail?
@@Yettiattack as you know, certain levels of criminals can post bail money to be released from jail pending trial and supposedly the bail money is an incentive to actually show up for the trial. Well, some nutbar in Illinois has decided that bail money won't be required any more. The criminals, when caught, will be charged and let go with no bail, in the expectation they'll stay out of trouble and actually show up on their court dates. That's my understanding anyway, I'm not a lawyer though.
@@ralphm6901 🤦🏼🤦🏼 wow. These policies breed criminals
Some of us realize that inevitably there will be more taxes and restrictions and tracking on ammo purchases
Too hard to bother, but any easy hedge is to get some friends and all go in on a reloading set up. A dillon XL750 and efficient case prep tools might run you $4k, but I can almost guarantee you will break even by 20k rounds. Plus it's easy to crank out a few hundred rounds an hour that are match grade.
It’s just like Joseph in the Bible. You prepare for the bad times during the “good” (if you can call if that right now lol). Best to prepare before things get too out of hand. Be like Joseph
Yes, you're RIGHT, OJ... That (young) man has "crossed my mind" (frequently) in the past couple of years!! [Now, I can't find my "coat of many colors" EITHER!!!]
AMEN!
I buy ammo by the 100s and 1000s for the same reason I don't buy toilet paper by the roll 😂
Yeah, you are exactly RIGHT! (There's little doubt, but, that I'll be "making use of it"; as long as I keep "breathing Earth-Air" long enough!)
I ordered all of mine by the 1000's in 2015-2018. One shipment was 7,200 rounds of IMI 5.56 @ 23cents and 4,000 9mm @ 16 cents with free shipping. Every time I read some of these posts I thank myself for selling a kidney to stock up. Bought several more 1200 round cases of IMI 5.56 at $280 per case until the wife threw a fit. We now consider it currency.
My preferred supplier gives free shipping over $200. Quite an encouragement to stack deep.

Because we can? I buy a couple of boxes every time I go to my local hardware store, box of nails, 2 boxes of 9mm... rinse and repeat.
You could do it 20 years ago. There's more reasons than "because we can" these days.
Realistically, if your stockpiling for shtf, you need as much as you can carry or in a vehicle if you’re on the move. It only takes one well placed round to end all of that
Unless you have an inch or more of hardened steel as your welcoming committee...still, maybe not...
Besides who buys ammo in a store? Online is less.
@@pjbiggleswerth8903
Unfortunately most online ammo retailers use UPS. UPS has been known to “misplace” ammunition shipments. You need to find a retailer that offers shipping insurance or you are screwed. So I factor in the cost of shipping and shipping insurance before I buy locally.
@Peter Angles definitely agree, stockpiling is for training and just plain fun at the range and also an investment. If you need more than a standard load out in a self defense situation your about to be or already dead.

87,000 new armed IRS agents might trigger thoughts of stockpiling .
That's over 10 years, you do know that right? Not to mention they're replacing the retirees for the most part and the rest are just office help. People like to spread fear because it sells.
Not to mention if they start training and practicing, that'll put a strain on supply chain.

There are not 87 thousand new ATF agents. Do the math and think .
I recently purchased a 9 mm semi-automatic pocket pistol at a big box store. They had plenty of 9 mm ball ammo, but no hollow points. Latter I ordered the ammo I wanted on line. If I had seen the ammo on the shelf - I would probably jumped on it even if the price was somewhat high. We are all going to have to get use to the new normal - including stocking up on your favorite items just in case of future shortages.
Ball works perfect especially for shtf
@@Nahyougood8002 yup. Good enough for the military, good enough for us.
New normal ? Runs on guns & ammo and certainly for specific calibers have been the normal for at least a decade. Government interference with guns and ammo have been working against the citizens for at least that long; in some places much longer than that. By and large, the supply chain issues we are seeing was brought to US by the government and by government policies. With each new wave; with each new crisis, whether man-made or government induced, we'll see new runs on guns and ammo.
Now that all components are available, LEARN TO RELOAD! After the first 3-4 boxes worth, you're at break even with one caliber if you go with basic setup. From then on you're saving, even as you add calibers. (And it can be fun and therapeutic!)
Yes, specialty stuff like Underwood +P+ is hard to find local, have to get it online!
Maggie, we love you!!!! Yes many of us have been buying ammo out of fear. Some calibers have been tough to get, and gun without ammo is like a car without gas, worthless. .45 Long Colt is a good example, and now that I found some I feel better.
Not fear, my friend. More like seeing which way the wind is blowing.
I been searching for .45 long colts too. I like to have extra but for $68 a box I'll pass. That means I can't train with it. I'll just have to continue to train with my .22.
Everybody loves 45 colt, I do too. But I accepted decades ago that 45 Colt wouldn't be a caliber to depend on in SHTF. Get a 9mm

These are good times, I remember not too long ago it was years before I found a box of 22lr on the shelves, and with gas prices high, I buy the ammo available and have a nice day at the range
Always wondered how much ammo is enough and I found the answer. Enough is when you can't remember how much you actually have!
Enough is when you notice the structure of your home is beginning to change slightly. If your floor is bowing and making folks downstairs nervous, you have enough....

I think if you look at the price of ammo pre-COVID and apply inflation that we have seen since then, I believe the current prices are nearing what that would be. But, that depends on where you look.

Over the past couple of years, some of us have gone through our supply we stockpiled 4 or 5 years ago so now where prices are starting to become more reasonable, we are slowly resupplying our stockpile. I wish everyone was half as happy and pleasant as Ms. Maggie.
So by this reasoning, the reason the USDA and IRS are stockpiling ammo is that they plan on using it. Something to think about.

@@bigguy7353 how so? Most legit training classes will have you firing 800-1000 rounds and if you practice once a month or every six weeks like you’re really supposed to then you go thru it really fast. I shoot 2-300 rounds of 9mm every time I go and if my wife’s with me it’s nearly double that.
I stockpiled 2k per caliber that I own about 5 years ago. I stopped buying ammo except for practice. Sadly, I haven't even shot any of my guns for several years because of various circumstances. But trying to stockpile .32 WS for my 94 Winchester rifle was the hardest. At that time only Bass Pro had that caliber but even they eventually stopped carrying it.
I just found my boxes of 40 caliber that I bought like 20 years ago. It was $23.50 for a box of fifty. I also found a 25 box of hollow point 40 caliber for $19.00 that I have had for years. I go to the store atleast once a week and buy some ammo. Some ammo for the firearms that I have and some for the firearms that I am saving money to buy.
A great uncle of mine was a detective on the B and O railroad from 1900 or so to 1930. I got his colt 32 pocket positive revolver. It was made in 1903. I got ammo with the gun and I had 30 cartridges The box was ratty but all rounds fired fine.
I guess it's some of the same reasons Sam's Club and Costco exists. People buy in bulk to save money on a product they use or find useful. Ammo and firearms are a commodity.
This is the time to buy ammo and firearms. When they're available and in stock and while prices are relatively reasonable.
Love that Miami rig your wearing. I have one for my Ruger 1911 SR and love it.

Been stockpiling 9mm and 38 special.
I've been shopping for best pricing and free shipping for the common ammo I train with. I like bulk and vac seal my own range packs so I don't blow the budget on mag dumps. Inflation has driven up the cost a bit but I have found some deals on-line, at the last gun show and at my local outdoor center. Still having trouble finding .38 SPL and of course 6.5 x 50 JAP at non-gouging prices.
Once I clear out my credit card, I’m definitely stocking up on ammo. People just go, WHAT?!?!?!? Why do you need 1,000 rds of 9mm and 1,000 rds of 5.56 for?!?!?!? That’s waaaaaay too much!!!!! The problem is, I usually hit the range twice a month, and just on 9mm and 5.56, I blow 150 9mm and 60 5.56 each trip. Added all up, 1,000 rds really isn’t all that much! Hence why I need to stock up once my credit cards clear.
I still have some German 7.62x51 from the 1950's. Berdan-primed, so I clean the HK, M1A, and AR10 when I get back from the range.
The info is always good from Maggie!!!
I prefer to purchase from my local gun shops. However it is so much cheaper to buy ammo online even with shipping. I think they are buying from the same sites I use and reselling it. Reloading is a great place to save money. Especially loading for uncommon calibers.
reloading components aren't as cheap as it used to be. Brick of primers can easily cost over $100 now. Powder is sky high if you can find it. Right now the only sensible reasons to handload are for (as you mentioned) uncommon cartridges or precision shooting. Definitely aren't saving money like we used to by reloading.
@@oif3vetk9 You are spot on with the increasing prices. Even with the prices I can still load calibers such as 44 mag, 500 mag, 7.7x58, 32 win spl nd a slew of others. Reloading is the only thing that gets those guns out of the safe.

I work for one of the premium high end ammunition manufacturer plants. We run two shifts in two factory’s over 200 employees. We can’t keep up. In fact the owners are talking about building yet another plant even bigger then the two they have and hiring 200 more people.
I recently (within 2022) started reloading for my personal use. I really enjoy it, but I am finding that as ammo becomes more available, it is costing more to reload than to buy new. When I look at reloading costs I do not include the equipment required, only the consumables. (Primers, cases, powder, bullets) I have a decent stockpile of ammo for the calibers I shoot, but will have to seriously consider just buying new unless the cost of consumables comes down considerably.

It paid for a $13,000 motorcycle that I got lucky getting at MSRP. I'm still well stocked on 6.5cm & my other calibers.
In my experience, ammo bought in gun shops is usually overpriced, with a few exceptions. My local shop has 5.7mm cheaper than online, and they have a decent price on some good 500 rd boxes of 7.62x39, for example. Purchasing ammo online when it’s on sale or in bulk will usually save you a ton of money, or in my case, get your more ammo for your budget.
If you can find what you need you better get. example I go to pay my PG&E bill and stop at local coin shop or hardware/gun store.
most of the time I stock up instead of paying the power bill.
That isn’t the best choice but i get your idea. Maybe skip the unnecessary things and get ammo. Where I live, pay power or they electronically turn it off pretty quick.
in the UK shot gun ammo is about 15p a shell. 303 is about 55p. 22lr is about 10p ish.
Thank God I stocked up on primers. Have you seen the price on a brick lately?
I've really cut back shooting 9mm. Rarely 38/357 both primers and loaded ammo. Fortunately shotgun is still available and primers as well.
90% of the ammo we get is shot up staying in practice.
I look back with fond nostalgia at the times I could get a 20-rd box of .30-30 for $16. We'll never see that again. Sigh.
Got a box for$ 19.67, in Pennsylvania
I found some British .303 ammo in a hardware store that was still loaded with cordite. The stuff ran great and the thought of being able to shoot that Enfield with original ammo was just too cool to me. The smell of cordite loaded ammo is different animal in itself.
I think people are just buying ammo because it's just more readily available in most places in spite of the prices still being pretty steep.
Reloading supplies, bullets, brass and powder are still pricy and if you can find primers good on ya. Primers have gone from $35 a thousand up to a hundred and beyond, ebay, gunbroker etc.
I’ve still got thousands of rounds of ammunition that these days that was manufactured over a 100 years ago that I have had since the 1980’s that still shoots fine because it has been stored well.
The oldest ammunition that I have shot is from 1887 - 8x50mm Lebel ammunition and with a new good striker / firing pin spring from a 98 Mauser or 1903 Springfield cut to length with a rounded fire pin it still shoots fine out of 1886 Lebel made in 1888.
I did that about 15 years ago and I was hitting a five gallon drum from 700 yards away every shot standing offhand, with my brother and his daughter @17/18 years old then making the same shot with it with newer 8x51mm Lebel ammunition from 1927 made in France for the hotchkiss MG’s with the red lacker, but to get that stuff to go off you have to have a new firing pin spring and the tip of the firing pin has to be rounded off on the edges. Because a flat squared off firing pin is a real problem along with a weak worn out spring.
If anyone could tell Ian Macolum that he would really like to know that.
Any which way I have shot ammunition that was laying out in the desert from 1943 to the late 1970’s when I picked it up off of the ground where General George S. Patton had trained his troops that had been dropped, mostly Ball M2 30-06 but also 30 Carbine and 45 ACP that has all always shot perfectly all tarnished brown.
Old guns and old ammunition isn’t always a problem with a gun that is kept in good condition with good properly fitted parts.
But if you’re trusting your life to a firearm you need the new stuff with new ammunition.
Firing the old stuff is a hobby that doesn’t matter if it doesn’t shoot all of the time.
But when you’re life is a stake run the good stuff.
I have a box of 12 Ga #5 shot shells made by Imperial that I inherited from my Dad, who I think bought it before I was born (I'm 63). The price marked on the box is $2.99. Of course $2.99 was worth a lot more 60 years ago.
Need to stockpile Maggie for the hard times. She would cheer ya right up
The ammo store near me this week said they are running short.
Retail stores are price gouging just like gunbroker. I don't waste my time going into stores anymore. The prices have not gone down that much!
Just to use .22 as a reference. I remember when I could buy a 500 round brick of .22LR for 10 dollars and a 500 round brick of .22WMR was 15 dollars. Before the panic buying of 2020/2021 I could get a 500 round brick/bulk pack of .22LR for 20-25 dollars where .22WMR was 15 dollars for a 50 round box and a 150 round bulk back was 25-30 dollars. Now a 500 round bulk pack of .22LR is running 42+ dollars and I haven't seen .22WMR on the shelves since 2020.
I try to keep a good supply of the calibers I use. I buy a box of new when I plan a range day to shoot the old. Then again I shoot 22lr a lot because its affordable.
It would be nice for Maggie to let us know how much we’d pay for ammo at her store and it’s availability. If you like gun shop vids, check out Amber /Exile armory. They go over dozens of different guns and their prices. Still no CCI .22s or .38s hard to come by in SoCA. Cheers.
N.E. Ohio. 44 mag tuff TO find
Thanks Alan - somehow I got unsubscribed to Exile.
There are decent buys on the web, from Target Sports they have a special $400 for 5K Mini-Mags. But, they might not ship to SoCal.
What isnt hard to come by In SoCa? quit voting Democrat
Yes the older ammo boxes unboxing it the best
I have some ammo stored up but I go through some it fairly regularly. It's impossible to know how much is "enough". If I'm able to shelter in place during a SHTF, then the more the better I suppose. If I'm on the move, then I don't see how I load up too much in my mid sized car (plus food, water, etc.) and even less if I'm on foot. Ideally, I'd like to try to shelter in place. Everyone always goes on about "get out of the cities! They're death traps!!!" And being on the road won't be?!?!
EXACTLY!
@Peter Angles Exactly. I imagine many if not most of us have food and water stored for weeks if not months or even years for those who are really into stockpiling. As for ammo, I'm guessing most of us buy the calibers we shoot by the 1000 rd case an I certainly can't carry all that and even my mid sized car would dip a fair amount if I threw all I had in the trunk during a SHTF... provided it's not a CME/EMP and the darn thing won't even start. Don't get me wrong, I understand the concerns with not wanting to be in a big city with the looting and violence going on but abandoning most of my supplies and taking my chances on the road where things are likely turning into a real life Mad Max movie doesn't sound like a good idea either. I will shelter in place if, God forbid, some society/civilization destroying SHTF scenario takes place. If I survive long enough that my supplies dwindle to what I can carry, maybe then I'd hit the road. Or maybe instead of just stockpiling stuff, I learn how to plant some stuff. There's likely a dozen other options but for now, I'm just hoping it doesn't happen.
Most ammo I see is about 50% more than it was in 2019 or 2018. Everything else is up at least that much so I think the prices are about as good as they are going to get. I've been stocking up on a few boxes of 30-30 which has been hard to find and I'm paying just less than 1.50 a round. I did not get any 30-30 when it was over $60 a box.
Many of us were not shooting as much as we enjoy to. Bought some ammo we could afford but it wasn’t what we wanted. Shoot what we had and replace it now. The prices on the shelves is still expensive for many calibers.
The prices are still so rough. And with inflation, I don't see that changing. I wish I could afford to stock up like I want to. Lots of 22lr practice sessions in the foreseeable future.
Just one event away from the next ammo shortage. Now is the time to stockpile ammo.
Lol. Here's a hard truth fact and a punch in the face.
Some gun owners only "stockpile" during panic and shortage. As soon as the drama blows over they go right back into NOT CARING.
Have you seen a reduction of people using Visa and similar to buy guns and ammo following the announcement that they are going to start recording such purchases?
Thanks for the video, good info, be cool, be safe ,stay safe...... N.B. Canada .....eh!
Bill 114 in Oregon is some scary stuff!
but no, everyone is stockpiling because we have a REGIME that has been non-stop stripping away rights since 2008.
Actually Canada has a limit on the amount of Ammo you can own or store in a Dwelling. It falls under the Explosive act and it's 225kg.
