TEXAS CHILI:
- 1 lb. beef cubes, stew meat, or chuck roast
- 1/2 pkg. bacon
- 1 can tomato puree
- 3 Tbsp. tomato paste
- 1 Tbsp. worcesterhire sauce
- 1 Tbsp. molasses
- 1 Tbsp. brown sugar
- 4 C. beef broth
- 1/2 Tbsp. beef bouillon
- corn starch slurry
To Taste:
- salt & pepper
- onion powder
- garlic powder
- oregano
- coriander
- chili powder
- cumin
- paprika
SAUSAGE & PESTO LASAGNA
- 1 lb. Italian sausage
- 1 box oven ready lasagna noodles
(cheese mixture)
- 1/2 C. feta cheese
- 1 C. cottage cheese
- 1 C. mozzarella cheese
- 1 C. muenster cheese
- 2 eggs
- salt & pepper
- parsley
- Italian seasoning
(sauce)
- butter
- minced garlic
- salt & pepper
- onion powder
- seasoned salt
- 1/4 C. pesto
- 1 C. heavy cream
- 1/2 C. parmesan cheese
*top with 1 C. each mozzarella and muenster
TERIYAKI CHICKEN LETTUCE WRAPS
- 2 chicken breasts
- 1 bottle Island Teriyaki sauce
to taste:
- honey
- brown sugar
- rice vinegar
- soy sauce
- corn starch slurry
MAID-RITES (my version)
- 2 C. cooked rice
- 1.5 lbs. ground beef
- 2 cans cream of chicken soup
- 1/2 can water
- salt & pepper
- Tony's creole seasoning

Also just a FYI ... If you add 2-3 tablespoons of water to sausage when you brown it... It honestly crumbles super easy 😊

Hey Jess Maid Rites look good I have never heard of them before you making them. I am in North Carolina so it may a Texas thing I don't know. Thanks for sharing with us. ❤
They're originally from Illinois, I think... But they are just loose ground beef sandwiches. Somewhere along the way, my Grandma added rice. 🙂
Muscatine, IA - originated there! There’s still 20 locations in operation today; including 1 where I’m located, Springfield IL. I’ve only ever had ONE sandwich from the place we have here. I was “days”, maybe a couple of weeks pregnant and so I didn’t know it yet - I did find out with all my kids - the earliest you can find out, without a blood test, like they apparently do now lol 😂 got a sandwich and needless to say, it didn’t settle right. I didn’t throw it up or anything, but something seemed “OFF” about it?? I didn’t really care for it. And I’m not a picky person. There’s very little I don’t eat or Won’t try. It wasn’t made with rice, but I like that idea. Definite filler-upper.
I’d make my own at home over buying one. You can control your own seasonings and how much etc. Maybe the one I had was just a “Dud”?? The taste and even the texture seemed off. Was very weird lol 😆

Illinois or more-so CENTRAL Illinois is KNOWN for their Horseshoes. It’s basically an open-faced sandwich. Texas toast bread or whatever at the bottom, then choose the meat - Hamburger, Chicken Breast, Ham, Turkey, BBQ Pork, Breaded Tenderloin etc etc etc, then Fries, THEN pour cheese sauce over the top.
Depending on kind of cheese sauce makes it!!! Our steak n shakes in town does Horseshoes And they use a very special cheese sauce that came from a hotel here in Springfield. THAT cheese sauce is SOOOOO DARN GOOD!!!!!! Not everywhere serves that kind. If you can get your taste buds on it, man oh man. I know it has paprika in it, I’m pretty sure. I can’t crack the recipe otherwise 😂

Your Maid rites look similar to what we call Grandmas Sloppy joes. Hamburger,dehydrated onion, chicken and rice soup,tomato soup, Lawrys season salt,pepper, ketchup and mustard. Always a favorite 😊

I never knew a Maid Rite in my lifetime but my mom did/has. Still alive thank God and 80 and probably in better health than she's ever been. A few years ago, not that long she vistied and we got her to a big county fair and they had a Maid Rite stand (not copycat if I recall, but actual bring back) and she had to have one. I don't know that I knew she had or knew these before this. Well it idd not match her expectations but how coudl anyting nowadays with how they raise beef and fast produce and what the oils or fats are nowadays or lack of such or flavor? News to me there was any condensed soup or rice in them but then I never had them growing up, she did and we were not raised in an area where she could introduce them to us or induldge herself.
There isn't soup or rice in the original... That's just how my grandma and mom made them. 💜
