Street Fighter 6 First Big Tournament Shows The Impact of Season 2 Lily!

- Combo Breaker 2024 was our first big tournament for Street Fighter 6 after the major balance patch. We had some amazing character variety and an incredible grand finals showcasing the changes to Season 2. I do a match analysis of ElChakotay using Lily versus NoahTheProdigy using Luke in the grand finals. The combination of new defensive options like Drive Reversal on wake-up plus Luke's damage scaling nerfs really shows us the impact of the balance changes.

I see people in chat whining about Lily's crouch heavy punch the timing to anti air with it much tighter than say Juri or JP. Luke's pressure is still extremely obnoxious, ElChakotay was patient and minimized his risks on defence.
Capcom said they want Lily players to use more of her kit when nerfing the hurtbox on crouching heavy punch but they need to improve those other buttons first they didn't do enough just yet.
The wakeup drive reversal seems like a game-changer for the S1 low tier characters.
A big reason why they were low tier characters was because they didn't have a wakeup option outside of a super. It really does change a lot.
Want to point out a couple of things here
the system change to make lights scale absolutely changed the damage output of Lily since she relies on lights the most.
Drive reversal being safe on block if you are burned out is also crucial
Lily’s biggest buffs were system changes but Chakotay really didn’t use any of her changes in tournament. He’s a great player but Lily overall is not that much stronger all of a sudden.
This.... but the wake up DR helps a lot
The wakeup DR changed the whole game. She couldnt be conored
People always overreact when a weaker character wins after the latest patch, he just played phenomenally
I mean of you put in the work, you can be good with any character. A lot of people use Tier lists to determine what character to use lol
Yea he did actually not sure if you play Lilly you could see ... he did alot of her buffs throughout the tournament you should see his break down on his channel...he go's thru all his matches and show you where the patch came into play ...😊
Shoutout to Tay for making the damn near impossible happen…Him winning with Lily hit so much different…Much respect to the brother!!!
Still, the bare minimum of what Capcom could’ve gave her was a condor dive while jumping back, carry stock to rounds, full screen DR and the ability to DR & DI out of st mp.
the scaling change is great, addreses a problem while it doesn't take punish counter or drive rush from lights combos out of the game, which is never a good feel to simply not be able to do stuff that you used to be able to do in the game.

I'm definitely noticing the scaling nerfs with Guile's punishes as well, most of my BnB punishes are down about 10%.
I'm finding I want to play SF2 Guile's plan a lot more in S2 because those few stray boom hits or St. MKs mean I don't need the extra opening. Luke is probably in a similar boat, dump your meter when you get the opportunity then calm it down, take a breath and get your resources back.

- Lily season 1 was in the bottom tier no doubt.
- El Chakotay is a master SF6 player, no doubt.
- Nerfs to Luke's damage, drive pressure and the addition of wakeup reversals really changed the situation, even if El Chakotay didn't used specific Lily changes in this fight.
- Noah playing in the old style of drive-wasteful gorilla Luke cost him big.
- There aren't serious match-up charts or tiers lists for SF6 2nd season yet.
Before Vesper explained at the beginning of the video.. I was thinking he was gonna talk about the “Luke Struggle”🤦🏻♂️😂 and Downplay Luke into Season 3 for an entire year 😂

People speak as if she is a horrible character lol. You can be good with any character when you put in work to lrarn matchups
Skill definitely had a large impact the outcome...not sure why he kept jumping in when Chakotay clearly demonstrated his anti-airs.
They nerf the recovery and not the disjoint, which is the actual problem with that button. That button is stupid af.
1400 players don't really mean much when the majority of international and CPT players weren't even there.
The meta hasn't changed. This is just a case of someone who could not take the pressure. Constantly burning himself out, jumping over and over again, and not recognizing the obvious backdashing each time he had her cornered.
This is that player you run into in ranked, that just flowcharts the entire time. You sit back and do the bare minimum to win.
Leshar was in this in tournament who was one of my predictions to win. He switched to Luke (before the patch notes) and didn't make it out of pools. IMO he's one of the best players who made it out of the hardest bracket in CC. S2 has definitely had an effect I feel and players have to adjust.
Makes me even more tilt that her design is mid, beautiful placements
All the Lily new Buff, not really useful in Real match.
Only useful is HP, mp wind, distance closer.
I just need people to understand who aren't El Chocotay riders. He's not a terrible player but it does not have the it factor. The fact is this is a new patch and there are no international killers at Combo Breaker.
Dude is a great Lilly player but the stars aligned here. Noah didn't even know the match up either. I don't even know who this guy is.

It amazes me how busted certain characters are allowed to be in comparison to others. Like Lily or even Jamie were absolutely nothing in comparison to Luke or JP.. now the playing field is especially evened out.

I’ve always said Lily was to tier. She’s VERY simple, that’s her strength, along with simpleeffective mixup
So shes top tier?? Best in competitive play? Id say judging from the results from said play thats obviously not the case...
@@EXFrost she has what she needs. Good pressure, mixup, and normals. And a command throw. Can you name some of her weaknesses?
@@Kenpachi_White707 some of the worst defense in the game with no invul reversal outside of super (which has been buffed mind you, her level 1 wasnt even usable as a good reversal until the patch) and the worst 4f normal in the game.
Some of the worst low options in the game by far. In fact the majority of her kicks sorta suck. A lot of her moves are on the slower end too compared to others in the same class.
She has the 5th slowest walk speed in the game which makes it hard for her to get in and gain stocks in some matchups. And obviously she is over reliant on gaining stocks so she can get in. Ofc cr.hp is one of the best normals in the game but relying on it so much makes you very predictable which is fine but still a downside in a game with perfect parry.
Drive reversal as a mechanic is designed solely to stop lily from having fun. If you pay 2 bars and a stock to OD windclad spire to get in and make yourself +ob, your opponent can just drive reverse everytime for 2 bars and beat you. Which would be a good trade if you forget you just lost a wind stock to get there.
She has low meter build from combos and because she relies on light combos a lot shes lost a bunch of damage from the recent light scaling nerf.
She has a lot of bad matchups: JP, Guile, Deejay, Ken, etc. Plus she doesnt have many winning matchups. And well that says enough really. If you have mostly losing matchups, especially against top tiers you cant be good, simple as.
So why does she have a high winrate in master? No.1 matchup knowledge, theres so little Lily players than people dont have the knowledge to deal with her and arent used to playing against her. And no.2 Lily PLAYERS are real damn good. Well, Hibiki and El Chakotay especially. They get wins because THEY are good, not Lily.
@@EXFrost matchup knowledge and everything you said is legit. But her kit is so simple.
People like to focus in the bad without mentioning what’s good. She’s doesn’t have to use all her buttons. Her fierce and round house is amazing, command grab, and her pressure up close is very good. When she has a wind stock she’s a menace plus her forward advancing special move is plus on block and goes through fireballs. She’s not bad. And not after patch she’s even better.
NOT TRUE.. LILY BARELY HAD ANY REAL NOTICEABLE BOOSTS, AND EVEN EL CHAKOTAY SAID HE DIDNT REALLY USE ANY OF HER BUFFS EXCEPT HER LEVEL ONE IN CORNER (HONESTLY COULD BE DONE BEFORE PATCH) AND HER WAKEUP DRIVE COUNTER..
Yea but the L1 could only be done with EX spire (or a juggle off a punish crumple.) Now you can just use straight up Heavy spire into L1 in the corner, saving precious drive meter.
