Mine get black marks, and it's not water quality. It seems to be temperature related, as I brought one inside and the black went away. Now as the pond has warmed the rest of the black marks are also gone. I thought ammonia maybe, but water tested no ammonia consistently, I have a lot of plants in the pond.
And glad to see new content!

This would definitely make sense! I have noticed this colour mainly appearing in the colder water too! I think you're right!

I am reminded of a video i have seen about a black and white koi, the breeder said it also changes color depending on temperature.

I was hoping to get Japanese top view from the uk since getting from Japan is a nightmare. They finally managed to find someone in Japan willing to sell, but its insane.
The equivalent of 123 pounds per tiny baby and i have to buy around 50 or 60

My tips view ranchu and Wakin in my pond have developed black marks a couple of times. I always put it down to ammonia burn after an undetected ammonia spike.
It seems to clear after a lot of water changes. Maybe I was wrong and it’s another factor.
I’m currently documenting it on my videos😊
