I was thinking about the safety of this project, I cant imagine it not being dangerous wouldn't it eventually heat up the twine too much...?
I never really have had my lantern on for more that a half hour to and hour, but I still didn't have any trouble with the twine getting too hot, as long as your candle is little enough and is not producing sparks you should be fine.
The autoignition temperature for rope is 250 F. So to test your theory I used a thermometer and set it over the mouth of the ball jar and lite candle for 1 hour. The temperature never reached over 120 F. ( Now you have to take into consideration that metal heats faster than rope), So I'd say you're safe.
*** My suggestion if you are still worried about this is: make the twine a few inches longer, that way it won't be close enough to ignite. ***
