    GET MY JAPAN TARVEL GUIDEBOOK: www.cakeswithfaces.co.uk/prod...
    We flew from Birmingham Airport to Tokyo Narita, via Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport , with Air France. Flying indirect is more tiring but it's usually cheaper than direct flights. It takes 12 hours - see what it's like flying with Air France: in-flight meals, seats and the plane. And see what's coming up in my new Japan videos over the next few months, including vlogs from Tokyo, Tohoku, Hokkaido and the Sapporo Snow Festival!

    I'm chuckling over here because I was planning to visit Hokkaido, at least Sapporo, on my next trip and was wondering if I could make it work. But many CZcamsrs don't flesh out their trips, focusing on Tokyo. That's why I love the variety and even updates on the videos you guys do. Quite a few things when i visited Akihabara that I was surprised I didn't see in various videos.

      Haneda is a lot closer to the city than Narita so that’s good! No complaints about Air France - good staff & everything went smoothly. • @cakeswithfaces
      @cakeswithfaces  Před 5 lety +1

      For the Narita Express, you're better off getting the separate ticket because then you get a discount. I think you can use Suica for the base fare, but you still need to pay an express fee supplement or seat reservation fee - so it's better to get the separate ticket from the airport.

    Narita seems the most common and quickest air port when going to japan but from what I have read Haneda is a bit easier getting to and from tokyo. If you were just visiting tokyo for a week or two which airport would you recommend?

    • @cakeswithfaces
      @cakeswithfaces  Před 5 lety +1

      Haneda is much closer to the city & cheaper to get to, so do there’s a choice I’d always pick Haneda. However Narita isn’t that bad (1 hour on the train) so I’d pick whichever has the best fares.

    When I went to Japan this year's April I also flew in to Narita Airport but with Finair. Despite also wearing noise cancelling headphones which they provided on board I was not able to sleep. Though this is something I most times cannot. But like yourself, I arrived in the morning with a whole day ahead of me. This in itself is a good thing as you can arrange quite some to get to the destination that is booked or prepare for other things. Still, having not slept well before I went to the airport in the Netherlands, barely sleeping in the air plane from Helsinki to Narita and then having to stay awake for another day is quite hard :) So I can understand how you must have felt at the video's 5:34 time mark. Also indeed I had the same issue with being too early at the Ryokan and not being able to check in. In a day where all that would be on my mind is taking a good nap this is not the news I was hoping for. On the other hand, it is good to get sort of forced into the time zone one is at right away by not giving in on sleeping during the local day time. Looking forward to your upcoming video. As always I enjoy watching them.

      It’s so difficult to sleep on planes! I felt like I spent the whole time with my eyes shut, pretending to be asleep but I must have slept a bit - it didn’t feel like it though! In tomorrow’s video you can see what we did the first day - trying to take it easy & do something a bit more chilled. Looking back now I realise I forgot to eat the whole day too (must have been messed up from the time change) and started feeling dizzy in the evening! These long travelling days are strange!! 😊

      @@cakeswithfaces True! about airplane food. Years ago for my trans-oceanic flight, I ordered "vegetarian" in-flight meals weeks before my flight, but what I got was a dinner with chicken salad!!!! I told a flight attendant that I ordered vegetarian meals, but she insisted that chicken was a part of a "vegetarian" meal!!!! (I guess American Airlines and her idea of a vegetarian meal must be a non red meat meal (but ok if it is fish or chicken). After the flight, I contacted and complained about the chicken "vegetarian" in-flight meal, but they never replied.
