    I've often struggled with the sequence of the components to be installed. What comes first, and so forth. But this clip lays it out in order. I now have the ideas set in my mind to lay out the parts, then start assembling. Great job on the editing.

    I just ran onto your video, I'm a recent Widdow and driving the bus by myself. I like to find a video,before I hire someone cause, help is out there but some try to grease a single women for every $, charge you for what you don't need, and milk a job for 4 hours when it really took 1 hour. Your video answered all my questions and now I know exactly what the plumber needs to do. Excellent video. Thank you young man. Not all contractors are bad but it only takes 1 for you to keep your gaurd up.

    FYI ( and not that I'm a plumber)...if you are installing a foot operated drain (instead of that shithook linkage operated drain) you will find out like I did that there are NO slip joints, and that Miracle Joint won't fit around 11/2" pipe, so all the connections have to be cemented.

    I'm always amazed at how thin/cheap a store-bought drain/overflow setup feels and struggle to believe it will last many years. I wonder if a $10 mil house would use the same product?
    Regarding leveling a tub/shower like this... is it safe to assume that there is pitch/slope built into the tub?
    Any thoughts on using something like 'window semi expansion foam' beneath the tup so that it does not dip or belly over the years?

    • @MyFortressConstruction
      @MyFortressConstruction Před rokem +3

      Pitch is built into the tub. If the tub has it's feet or foam cushion on a perfectly level surface then you won't have to worry about it crushing. Many tubs have been installed incorrectly and lead to the bottom cracking because of lack of support. Most manufacturers will recommend putting a bed of mortar under their shower pans or tubs if the floor isn't perfectly level. Have to check with the manufacturer though. Never use spray foam as a substitute for a mortar bed as the spray foam will crush and be rendered useless.

      There is a slope built in but usually you also adjust the bath underneath ó you can mess up the slope if you don't level it well underneath as well. Some have more slope than others too

    What do you do with the hole in the slab? Fill it with concrete after installing the tub? Or just leave it open for critters to come in?

    • @TheExcellentLaborer

      I fill it with sand I case you got you get back to the drain! Hope that helps!

    • @MyFortressConstruction
      @MyFortressConstruction Před rokem +3

      You just leave it open. Typically the dirt comes up to right below the T. I suppose you could place hardware cloth with bricks on top if you were concerned about burrowing rodents, but I have never seen it used as an access point for critters even 50 years after it was originally built.

    Can that stopper fail and prevent the tub from draining properly? I have mine taken apart and the water still won’t drain. My lever on the overflow is down but only trickling down

    • @TheExcellentLaborer
      @TheExcellentLaborer  Před 2 lety

      If the stopper is out then it’s not that. Sounds like hair stuck in the drain. Use a snake and unclog it

    Just out of curiosity. I'm doing a similar DIY project for my house. Installing a new drain and faucet on my plastic/fiberglass bathtub. The plumbers putty you used in the video is the same one that I bought, but when I was reading the label, it says not to use on plastic. When I researched why, it said it would leave stains on the bathtub. So now I'm not sure what to use. Just curious why you still used it on a fiberglass tub or am I misunderstanding something. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.

      How will you undo that if theres a blockage? It may be easier in the beginning but the minute somone has a problem they then have to cut the pipe and replace it or have two joints to replace it and thats not easy to do without removing at least one end of the whole thing where a join that open can easily be used to acsess a blockage.
