  • Hi, everyone! Today I'm gonna show you how I converted (replaced) my old Ni-Cd drill to li-ion using 18650.
    I used:
    1) High-Amps (30A) Lithium batteries 18650, capacity 3000mAh:
    s.click.aliexpr...
    2) BMS Protection Board For Li-ion (12,6V/3S 20A):
    s.click.aliexpr...
    3) 12,6V Lithium battery charger (adapter):
    s.click.aliexpr...
    4) Battery level indicator:
    s.click.aliexpr...
    5) Small push switch:
    s.click.aliexpr...
    6) I also use the soldering flux for steel:

    I've done this on my drill a few months ago and I'm very happy, because not only the drill has more capacity, also when I need to use it, it have battery. With the old Ni-CD batteries always was discharged when I need it, but for now it still above 12v with LiION. Also the old Ni-CD batteries were at 60-70% of capacity without too much use, so the memory effect in original batteries is very high while on LiION doesn't exists.
    The best for me was the price, because I've used recycled batteries from my laptop (supposedly dead, but with about 2mAh), and also I've bougth the battery protection time ago, so new batteries for about 2€.

    Great video, you make it look so easy. If I could actually do that taking 10 times the time it took you I'd be very happy with myself. I've learned that there is a big difference in knowing how something is done as apposed to someone having having the skills to do it. Since I have so many of these just lying around I may just give it try and if it doesn't work for me I can just throw them away. Thanks for sharing your good ideas.

    Trust me when I tell you that those BMS is, in fact one portrayed in particular, does not work well on a heavy duty tool with a high amperage draw. I would recommend using them for smaller non-heavy duty tools. I’ve blown up multiple boards and triggers trying to make a battery pack for my 14.4 V XRP DeWalt

    i've made a half dozen of these using used 18650's from laptop power supplies, but no special charger or card for them. whenever i ruin a cell, i just toss it and solder in another. i've also done it with flashlights, and an old cordless dremel-like tool. i charge using a buck converter with an old printer power supply, or laptop power supply. i just have to monitor the current and heat.

    • @wilsard
      @wilsard Před 5 lety

      No. what i'm doing is playing with a big pile of parts i got for free, and don't want to spend any money on. free batteries and free drills. i seem to only ruin about 1 "FREE" 18650 cell a year. i'm not saying his work isn't nice. it is. i'm "un"-wasting batteries that i got other people to give me instead of throwing them away. laptop battery packs they were going to throw away.

      Better if they are low resistance batteries (high current), because the drain of the drill. Anyway, I've used batteries recycled from a laptop and they works, but I've used 6 cells (2 blocks of 3 cells), so they supports more current. The BMS circuit is also important, because some of them can threat the drill as a short-circuit and don't works. It should be compatible with drills.

    Для таких строительных работ. Было бы лучше прилепить радиатор на диоды силовые. Да и вместо зарядки, лучше купить плату заряда, где можно регулировать ток и напряжение (будет дешевле и надежнее, используя родную зарядка шуруповерта)
    А так принципе очень классно сделано.

    • @111tier
      @111tier Před 4 lety +1

      Ну ну ну.. на бмс нет как Вы выразились силовых диодов! Транзисторы, согласен, но и они не особо нуждаются в дополнительном охлаждении, так как рассчитаны на определенные нагрузки (читайте даташит)
      Ведь плата рассчитывается на определенные токи, которые с небольшим запасом выдерживают эти транзисторы. Если Вы всё же маньяк и пытаетесь снять с бмс больше 30-40 Ампер то у Вас те же высокотоковые аккумуляторы просто начнут просаживать общую напругу и сработает защита! А ещё на бмс есть выход для подключения термоэлемента, который есть в каждом даже кадмиевом аккуме. Вот его используйте для защиты от перегрева..

    -Please help. My drill hale a Li-Ion 18V batery with 5 18650 batery connected in series. If i connect othyer 5 batery in series, same 18650 for 18V, can i connebt the two pair of batery in paralel to obtain the same 18V but higher Ampere? Thank you.

      @@hiimakeit If i understand you well, that circuit is a protection for the batery. My question is if the bateries have allready theyr oun protection circuit but it a protection circuit made for 5 batteries. Will the protection circuit work with 10 batteries at the same voltage bu higher amperage? Thank you verry much for your reply.

    • @stinkycheese804
      @stinkycheese804 Před 4 lety

      @@ionion3089 No it won't work well. The existing protection circuit is not in the batteries but rather a separate board that monitors the charge of each battery. It is able to handle only 5 cells, cannot handle a second parallel series of cells, must be able to monitor each cell individually for safety.
      It doesn't even make much sense to do what you want to because you need a new battery case to fit them all, as well as new/good cells to make it worth the bother, so you might as well just buy a 2x5 battery pack at retail.

      The green chip that went on the battery? That's a BMS chipboard, it protects the battery from overcharge or over-discharge at the same time act as a battery balancer for 3 cells (3S).

      I bought the new one especially for 3 cells 18650. So, I removed all the components from the old charger. There are only two wires: from + to +, and from - to -.

Could you send me a picture of my board to help me which circuits to take and where should I make the direct call you made?
