  • This video is all about transforming a simple Arc/Stick welding machine into a Tig welding machine with simple Modification. As we know Tig welding machine is costly compare to a stick welder and, in many countries, people cannot afford expensive TIG welding machines. This modification will be applicable to any stick/welding machine.
    I have made a separate circuit for this Tig welding that will not affect your normal stick welding performance. I have added a separate switch for that so that if you do not require the Tig function you keep the switch off and use your Stick function normally. I used a 24V gas valve for the Argon gas 24-volt power supply (SMPS) to give power to the valve. That power is controlled with the Tig trigger switch that is mounted on the Tig torch.
    You can use a 12Volt valve and 240Volt valves are also available. In those cases, you have to change the power supply. 240Volt gas valves are a little costly but, in that case, you can use the same 240 volts which are required for an arc welder. No further SMPS or external power supply is required.
    In my previous video, I made my own custom Tig torch. That is a very fun project and new learning for me to work with copper.

    Stick welding is a family of welding processes. Arc welding creates a weld by heating materials with an electrical arc until they coalesce. Stick welding can be performed with or without pressure and with or without adding joint filler materials. Many different types of materials can be welded by an arc welding process, assuming they are fair conductors of electricity.

Do you have to scratch, in order for the arc to build-up, or can you start the arc from 1-2cm of distance...??? Thanks for any answer, I know little about such stuff, and make stupid questions, maybe...

    • @ambroscustom
      @ambroscustom  Pล™ed 7 mฤ›sรญci

      It's possible but not economical. Solenoid valve is much better option to control the gas and once the switch is released the valve shut down the gas supply and yes it's the scratch tig, it's not possible to ignite the spark 1 cm above the surface. Don't worry about questions brother, you are welcome always.

    • @ambroscustom
      @ambroscustom  Pล™ed 2 lety +1

      Dear gas prices are not same everywhere in India and depend upon the cylinder size it's varied alot.I have 1mtr. High cylinder which cost me 1000rs to fill. The 6ft tall cylinder cost double now a days and due to market inflation they are increasing rapidly. And the filler rod costs around 800-1000 rs per kg and since it's a 5 kg packing you can calculate it. As far as conversion is concerned I suggest you to buy a tig welder rather than going for conversion because stick welder does not come with high frequency board and doing scratch tig and lift tig is not comfortable process to do. So my recommendation is to go with good tig welder because trust me that js worth the money spending. If you are just a hobbyist you can go with this conversation there is no problem in that and making a separate unit for the conversation is good and easy to do. So chose the decision based upon your usage. Good luck

      No bro, gas cost is 900/- for 7 cubic metre cylinder.
      And the conversion cost into Tig is 2000/-
      500/- for gas valve
      200/- for pneumatic fittings
      800/- for 24V power supply

      Without gas welding (arc welding) just switch off the red rocker switch that I have installed. In normal stick welding you not need to press red switch. Connect your welding holder and do weld as per required current. I made tig welding circuit separate that will not affect stick welding function.

      The Aragon gas act as a shield gas between non consumable tungsten electrode and weld material. Without gas air may enter to your weld joint which will make your weld joint porous and your tungsten electrode become black and dull in sharpness and you get poor quality weld.
