I like Dundee - it's one of those cities that you have to scratch beneath the surface of, to find the real treasures - as it suffered badly with post-war slum clearance and road-building - and had a lot of brutalist buildings from the same period, although many of these have since been demolished. You're on the sea-front as soon as you step out of the station: the whole of the flat area in front of you is reclaimed land - until the early 1960s there were docks there, which were infilled when they needed somewhere to build the approach roads for the Tay Road Bridge - and it's been re-invented several times since! To the far right of the station entrance is the SS Discovery, which has a £17 entrance fee - so just head for the huge modern building next door, which youi'll either love or hate - which is at least free to get into... Across the roads with the Tay behind you are several streets leading up to Nethergate/High Street/Murraygate, which is the main shopping area. I quite like these - Union Street, Crichton Street, Whitehall Street, Castle Street. - with their small shops, pubs and cafes. The western part of Nethergate, heading into Perth Road, is quite a happening area, as that's where most of the university is as well as the theatre (off South Tay Street), also DCA (Dundee Contemporary Arts), All of these places are no more that a 10 - 15-minute walk from the station, and/or each other. If you want to go up the Law ( the obvious hill in the middle), walk up Constitution Street then there's an obvious path).
You're being totally ripped off by both train and hotel companies. I'll send you some tips on how to save ££s, when I feel up to it later (I'm recovering from a bug).

Just watched your livestream. Brilliant. I got a real kick when my son, who's in Leeds at uni messaged me because I recommended he follow you a few weeks ago when he was down at mine at Easter. He messaged me whilst I was watching live, all excited that you mentioned the Peak District and Chesterfield. I told him it was my comment you were reacting to.... He didn't know that Enki Of Sumer was my username on chat. It gave me a good chuckle. 😂😂😂😂

You think Dundee is expensive??...Aberdeen is worse. Its the oil capital of Europe so everyone thinks we're all loaded lol...I live here so I've adapted to it but visitors to Aberdeen must get a shock at the prices.
