And if not, it'll stay with them as a story to tell for years, about random acts of kindness and not to judge people as mostly uncaring. @Eddy Cheese , I believe giving something back is soul cleansing good for you in helping to brighten 6 individuals days . I used to do something similar years ago . I would go around Glasgow looking for homeless people to help , but not all homeless just the one's that really looked malnourished . I set out to see if i could find about 20 starving individuals but i didn't offer them cash i opted to ask them what they wanted for dinner & took their orders chippy , chineses etc whatever they wanted and i went to the nearest fast food shop and got it for them . This was in the early 90s so prices were a lot cheaper but if i remember right i fed 20 people for around £110 It felt great . But i didn't have a lot of money myself to make this a regular thing i maybe have done it 5 or 6 times since > But i did volunteer at the soup kitchens & charity events . Good for you Eddy .
I once did this on a visit to Edinburgh years ago. A guy was asking for food because he hadn't eaten. I had a picnic packed for myself and missus to sit in the park. I got some sandwiches and snacks out and handed then to him. He threw them back at me and said "I don't want that, I want money". Needless to say, I told him "screw you" and walked off. There is a lovely guy in my home town who gives out the Big Issue. Very polite, not pushy, willing to have a laugh and conversation. I usually give him a fiver for a copy, and mostly don't get chance to read it. Whenever he sees me he always comes up to me with a warming smile and handshake. And don't be skeptical (I was at first, I'm a soft touch and all that) but he's just come over for a chat and ask how I am. On occasions he's even given me the paper and refused my money. Lovely young man.
