- Do you like your 4Runner warm in the winter and cold in the summer before you get in? Who doesn't? This is a video of my installation experience using the Start-X remote started for 2010+ 4Runners that use a key. This kit was easy to install, it came with everything you need for the installation and it works perfectly.
I say "Starter-X" multiple times but I really meant to say "Start-X".

Thanks for watching!

How the heck did you fit the steering column cover back over the wires?? A video of that would be the most helpful since I’m finding it to be the most challenging part
I will look through my old footage to see what I have that may be able to help you. But if I recall, coil the wires tightly together and use zip ties to keep the wires tight against the existing wires so the cover fits. Thanks for watching and best of luck.

Hopefully this helps! Good luck.
Even after watching the follow up video I had to end up grinding away some of the excess plastic on the bottom cover. There’s little square patterns inside that’s not needed and stops it from closing
@@layydback Thanks for sharing your solution! Hopefully it helps someone else out there with the same problem. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Amazing so glad I found your video! I had just purchased this for my 2011 4runner and their instructions provided did NOT work. After spending over 4 hours using their provided programming guide I had given up and was going to return it today. Found your video and guide and worked the first time after I did the reset!
Thank you again!
Glad you got it working and thanks for the positive comment!
This video should be on the website as the main instructional. Appreciate it, I was also able to mount in the same spot. Great tips!
Thanks! Glad it was helpful and you had success with your installation.
More details on how to mount. Better/more ways to gain access, mainly for mounting. And best place to put ignition plug is needed.
Thanks for watching and commenting. To mount, check out 3:50 in the video. As for gaining access, it is tight and I am not sure there is any best way to get more room. And check out this video and see if it give you a better idea about mounting the ignition plug. czcams.com/video/8K9t9jgxeYQ/video.html
Best of luck with your install. It will be worth it in the end.
Great video. Used this to compensate where the manufacturer's video didn't explain things well. I'll add that pressing the brake before turning the key after remote starting will kill the motor. That will take some behavior changes as I usually press the brake before anything.
Thanks for the comment and for watching. Glad it helped. Good point about the brake pedal! I still press the brake as soon as I get in and shut the 4Runner down after remote starting.

Thanks for this great video! We recently bought a new to us 5th Gen T4R, and added this remote start kit. As others have said much better than the one on the Start-X website.
Thanks! Congrats on your 4Runner and I am sure you will enjoy the remote starter!
So good! Only suggestion I’d make is mounting the unit after you program, haha I had to unzip tie to press the button
Thanks! Great suggestion as well.
THANK YOU!! The programming instructions with my unit were incorrect. Yours worked perfectly!
You are welcome! Enjoy your remote starter and thanks for taking time to comment.
I currently have iDatalink Maestro Radio Replacement installed in my vehicle, and connected to OBDII. Will there be any conflict if I add this remote start module?
I am not sure. My 4Runner is using the stock radio. My suggestion is to call the company who made the radio replacement or Start-X. Best of luck and hopefully you can install one without any issues, it's a great addition!
I just did this install with a maestro radio and it works.
@@jackmayson8663 Thanks for replying and helping out others.
@andybusadventures9249 I installed the start x but cant program it. the led light never turns green. ive tried a bunch of things including resetting the module. Any ideas?
I would go back and make sure all the connections are in place and seated fully. Then try again. If that does not work, call or email Start-X. I am sure they will send you a new module quickly and I assume that will fix your issue. Good luck! Let us know how you make out!
I would also double check you have the correct remote starter. If you have a key, you need the one made for key start and if you have a push start, you need a push start remote starter. There is a little sticker on the box that should tell you.
@@andysbusadventures start x and I have been in touch via email all day. They asked for info and gave me some tips to try to no avail. They are sending a new module. Great customer service. Happy new year!!
@@rhill6053 Glad you found a solution. Happy New Year!
Whats the range? Distance
It is the same range you have when you lock or unlock your 4Runner.
