- Security around the Horn of Africa is facing tensions not seen in decades. Houthi attacks on ships in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden is drawing in the US and UK, and a new Ethiopian-led port deal, has Somalia claiming its sovereignty is under threat. All are raising risks to this crucial global shipping route. Amid this uncertainity, last week Somalia's parliament passed a defence and economic agreement with Turkiye, which Mogadishu called a historic deal.
The 10-year pact is set to cover everything from strengthening maritime security, financial support and to step up the fight against terrorism. Somalia, which is still battling Al Shabab militants, also condemned a recent port deal between Ethiopia and the breakaway region of Somaliland. Turkiye, which has long provided financial and humanitarian support to Mogadishu, also operates its largest African embassy and overseas military facility in the country, where it is currently providing training for the Somali national army.

All of which have a value in the trillions when it comes resource extraction, fisheries, and potential trade. This maritime pact with Turkey is a great way for Somalia to get back on its feet with the help of an historic ally.

I remember in 2011 when Mogadishu was in the war against al-Shabaab and at the same time there was the worst famine, then Prime Minister ,of Turkey Rajjep Dayip Erdogan, along with his wife and children and his cabinet landed at Mogadishu Airport it very difficult situation that time I will never forget those day. I trust Turkey.

In 15th century Portuguese who were super power tried to invade Somali Ajuuraan empire, with the help of Turkiyē(Ottoman, under Sultan Suleiman the magnificent)the Portuguese were kicked out of East coast, again the Ethiopians(Abbyssinians) tried to invade Somali Adal empire under Amiir Ahmed Gurrey the great and with the help of Turkiyē the Somali captured whole of Abbyssinian and even matched to Sudan until the Portuguese tried to save them. A few thing you forgot to mention
- Ethiopia wants to build a military base and a navy, not just a port. Pretty silly to not mention the main issue at hand.
- Ethiopia has access to multiple ports in Kenya, Djibouti
- 30% split is only for 10 years until Somalia can build its navy.

The bilateral deal focuses on rebuilding Somali navy in a period of ten years, stopping illegal fishing which is a issue and illegal dumping of taxic wast. In the name of protecting Somalia Turkey is invading Africa, Turkey is aspiring to be a new colonizer in the region. This is not going to end well for the region and Africa in general. It wants to own, occupy and annex 150 sq kms along the strategic coast of Somalia's red sea, including a land corridor, commercial port and naval base. Second, Somalia doesn't need the help of Turkish military boots on the ground to fight for them. Somali are more than capable to do the job themselves. What it needs is some training of navy forces, technical help, military hardware and other supplies of equimpments until it builds up its own defence capabilities against foreign invaders and sneaky sworn enemies. Third, the bilateral agreement and cooperation over maritime resource development are only modest of 10 years and often subject to periodic reviews and and amicable renegotiations . Compare that to 30 upto 99 years of free lease and occupation that Ethiopia wants to own the vast and priceless coast as its lead negotiator and PM"s office confident confirmed to the media and the whole world.
