Scrum half is the biggest joke that no ones mentioned. How the hell are Youngs and Heinz the best 9s in the country... damming indictment of English rugby if they are.

Eh? Youngs didn’t have the best game but when he plays well, England tick! His box kicking is possibly the best in world rugby and that’s what our whole game plan is based around when in our half! He’s a key cog in this hugely successful machine... I love it when he has an average game and everyone slates him! 🤦‍♂️ maybe there’s a reason he has 90-odd caps people!!!

If you want to play a crash-ball style of play (which we did all game) you need the ball carriers for it. We were left completely reliant on a half fit Tuilagi for any go forward because Eddie refused to give players like Dombrandt, Devoto or Thorley a real chance. If he doesn’t want to make like-for-like changes then he needed to change up our attacking style, but he didn’t. We could’ve changed things up to suit a dynamic running Curry-style 8, but we didn’t. Plus, if you want a dynamic running Curry-style 8 who’s good at the breakdown, you pick Sam Simmonds not Curry!
Next week’s team, to actually fit our gameplan, should be:
    1. Marler
    2. George
    3. Sinckler
    4. Itoje
    5. Kruis
    6. Curry
    7. Underhill
    8. Dombrandt
    9. Heinz
    10. Farrell
    11. Thorley
    12. Devoto
    13. Tuilagi (Joesph if unfit)
    14. May
    15. Watson (Daly if unfit)
    16. Genge
    17. Cowan-Dickie
    18. Stuart
    19. Lawes
    20. Ludlum
    21. Robson
    22. Ford
    23. Daly (Furbank)

    • @dazeng4633

Why Marler? Man can't make his mind up whether he even wants to play for the country. Spends half his time taking the piss when he does. His ship has sailed.

Can't help feeling Eddie Jones has tinkered with selection 'Aussi style' which is ironic when you consider he stated from day one that he wanted to concentrate on traditional English strengths. The English pack never seem to click without a solid No 8.

  • @nickrad6966

Arrogance is his number one issue... before the WC everyone says pick Alex Goode, he picks McConnochie. Everyone says Cipriani, he finds space for Piers Francis despite Farrell covering 12. Everyone says pick Spencer, he picks Willi Heinz as one of only 2 scrum halves. This tournament the consensus is Dombrandt or Simmonds at 8, he inexplicably doesn’t pick an 8. Problem with Eddie is he perennially likes to assert his authoritarian control and contrarian standpoint over selections. He’s drummed into this side that his Plan A is infallible, and the only time it doesn’t work is when the players don’t execute it, not that Eddie has been out coached. Hence there’s no Plan B when Eddies “perfect plan” doesn’t work. Cue panic from the players. The arrogance and pigheaded nature knows no bounds...

Scotland coming up and I see England tripping up there too. That would make it 3 losses in a row for Eddie. I felt his contract should not have been renewed after the WC as it felt like the end of a cycle and he could take the team no further. Now we have a rudderless Eddie getting lost and creating a mess when we should have brought in a new regime and a fresh way forward.

Farrell not big, fast or strong enough for 12 but is a good enough 10. Don't agree on Maro - he's quality and learning his craft. Courtney should be starting alongside him - that's one of the best second rows in rugby. Totally agree with you mate on the number 8 situation - what was Eddie thinking? Full back situation not great either - put Daley back there and give Joe Cokanasiga a go on the wing? That could solve the lack of big ball carriers facing England at the moment.

The thing that pisses me off the most about English rugby is how fickle the supporters are. Eddie Jones is dealing with lots of issues on and off the field. All the people calling for dombrandt ignore the fact that he’s hardly played this season. Name a better 9 than Heinz or Youngs atm. Spencer is out of form for Saracens, and you shouldn’t give debuts out in the first game of the six nations away in Paris, as evidenced by furbank.

    • @sportspundit7171

It is ridiculous that the best England has to offer is Youngs and Hienz. Especially if we look over at the Welsh team who have Tomos Williams, Gareth Davies and Rhys Webb. All 3 of them would get in the English side, shouldn't be the case.
