    Regarding my comment on no access to Drive Modes or Regen levels on or behind the steering wheel, I've been informed that you can use the shortcut or favourite buttons on the left and right sides of the steering wheel to set this up.

    Looks like a really good value EV, especially with a 7 year warranty. In the UK MG have published 3yr PCP pricing - MG4 SE Standard Range (51kWh - 218 mile range) £300 per month MG4 SE Long Range (64kWh - 281 mile range) £350 per month MG4 Trophy (64kWh - 270 mile range) £410 per month (all packages are for 30,000 miles over 3 years with £4,000 deposit) - I think it will be very popular.

    Another excellent no nonsense review, top notch Derek. Just to let you know in UK the V2L adaptor is £269 extra from dealer and the type 2 charging cable is £120...i believe in UK you only get the granny 3 pin charging cable solution provided with car which is a little unusual just on it's own but fine.

    Ordered this in Jan 23 after alot of research (to the point of obsession!!) and this video was a huge weight in it's favour!
    sadly it didn't arrive until July 23 but luckily that meant I received the model year 23 version which has some changes, so for anyone considering an MG4 now (and you definitely should) the MY23 now has:
    + Rear wiper
    + Internal grab handles for passengers
    + centre headrest for rear passenger
    ++ One pedal driving! (I'm converted & want this on all my cars from now on)
    + slightly different design covers now resting on larger 18" alloys
    - Body coloured roof now on the Exclusive
    - no L2 & L3 pins on the charging port so AC charging is limited to single phase, which i think is 22kW?
    Luckily 99% of my charging is done on a 7kW Zappi at home but when public charging is needed thankfully there are more and more fast DC chargers being installed so I aim for those and there's no issue.
    All in all absolutely delighted with the car, all the positives hugely outweigh the small negatives, seems really well put together, comfortable (Exclusive spec) and even keeping the battery between 20-80% like I was advised i've little range anxiety as it covers my daily commute easily and long range drives just mean factoring in a rest stop (which I would be doing after 250-300km anyway) at a location with a DC charger.
    Thanks to Derek and Blake Boland too for sending me down this path! enjoying all the content so far keep it up!

    I followed up and found Leaf 3500 lbs, SR MG4 3900, LR MGR shows 3700. The Leaf should be much more efficient given the weight difference; the other two have weights released that don't make sense given the larger battery pack size. If the database calculations are based on numbers released by the maker and not actual numbers the figures are useless.

Had almost my mind made up on the Kia Niro - You are now giving me second thoughts :-( Especially with the 7 Year warranty, which was swaying me towards the KIA - Although I believe its almost 37 Grand for top spec with Met paint here in Ireland - So not that much cheaper than the Niro !! Looks like Good value. It's not easy to get a second hand EV with the same range for that price. New cars are not cheap but I can't see a second hand ID3 for this money. It's crazy that we are in a world where Ford, Vauxhall, Toyota, Honda and others don't offer a comparable sized pure EV. The sales figures will tell if the other have given away the market.

    They are making very strong progress yet maintaining best value for money available . With a 2 seater sportscar and a luxury GT car in the pipeline as well as revised range of SUVs and an all new MG3 the turnaround recently is mighty impressive . What would really move the electric game along would be a restyled (with a more aggressive MG UK look ) version of the huge selling Wuling city car in China also owned by a joint SAIC/GM/Wuling for the UK and European market on sale here at under £8000.- It is so well received that really would convert large numbers of people in to a commuting/shopping/errands daily car in UK with negligible running costs and have a family car for long distances .

    Looks a great car for the money. If this was available a few months ago I might have considered one as it is cheaper than the Peugeot e208 I ordered (due in 2 weeks!). It does look like a direct copy of the ID3/Cupra Born but nothing wrong with that! Only thing that really irks me is no rear wiper - I tried an Ionic 5 last year (fabulous car) and the claims of not needing one are nonsense, especially on UK roads. Other than that it’s great to see how far EV’s have come over the last year.

    I followed up with a look at the EV database; it lacks a weight spec for the cars so it is hard to judge. The leaf, the MG4 Sr and MG4 lr are listed; The SR shows a 60 kWH , Sr 51, the Leaf 39. Yet the efficiency are about the same supposedly even though there should be about a 10% weight increase for each 10kWh of battery; so I have to doubt these ratings particularly between the Sr and Lr it is unlikely they trimmed the body weight much to compensate for the battery increased weight.

    interesting review, and one of the most comprehensive I've seen so far. Important as I'm now in the queue in Ireland with money down!
    Questions:
    - What's your feeling about the road noise on motorways? A major deal breaker for longer drives?
    - the 360-litre boot measurement. Is that the boot volume up to the shelf, or all the way to the roof? And what is the volume when the floor is lowered in the Trophy model?
    - I see two cables in the front for charging? are both connectors USB-A or one USB-A and one USB-C? any idea what the charging speeds are?
    - An observation when seeing there isn't a glass roof: especially surprising to see that there's no roof rack rating.....
    - the flickering light above the steering wheel in the video: is that a driver monitoring camera?
    - A (random) question that probably relates to Qi chargers in all cars. will they charge an Apple Watch? Driving seems like an ideal time to give a watch a top-up.....
    - Lastly, you mentioned pricing. I've been told by an Irish dealer in Dublin that pricing will be (assuming the SEAI grant stays) €27k - €32k for the whole range. Impressive. Big difference to the ID.3 (same size) and Niro (exact same range).
    Considering the price of EVs in general, I've been very surprised/impressed by this offer. The roof box is a real challenge so I'm hoping you'll surprise me with the size of the boot when the floor is lowered :)

      Thanks for the comment and great questions Neal. Let me see if I can answer then below.
      Questions:
      - What's your feeling about the road noise on motorways? A major deal breaker for longer drives? I don't think so. I'm recording so no radio on. I think it would balance it out with some music.
      - the 360-litre boot measurement. Is that the boot volume up to the shelf, or all the way to the roof? And what is the volume when the floor is lowered in the Trophy model? usually it's up to the shelf. I think, and I need to check, that the 360 is from the bottom of the boot well so in the SE trim and the flase floor ijn the Executive trim is actually eating into it. I will reach out to MG
      - I see two cables in the front for charging? are both connectors USB-A or one USB-A and one USB-C? any idea what the charging speeds are? One is A and one is C. They provided an apple connector and one for android users. No idea on the charging speeds, will find out for you.
      - An observation when seeing there isn't a glass roof: especially surprising to see that there's no roof rack rating..... A funny one alright
      - the flickering light above the steering wheel in the video: is that a driver monitoring camera? Yes, it's Infra Red so not visible to the naked eye, just shows on the camera footage.
      - A (random) question that probably relates to Qi chargers in all cars. will they charge an Apple Watch? Driving seems like an ideal time to give a watch a top-up.....It has the Qi charging logo so I assume compatible with all Qi compatible devices
      - Lastly, you mentioned pricing. I've been told by an Irish dealer in Dublin that pricing will be (assuming the SEAI grant stays) €27k - €32k for the whole range. Impressive. Amusingly related to the roof rack, the Irish dealer told me it was likely due to range impact and also possibly strain on the motor! That’s a new one to me, and I also suggested they look at all the e-Niros and Tesla M3’s around that are quoted for the same range….. (according to ev-database).

    Nice to see your review of the MG4. So does it have a frunk? (hehehe) Love to see the charge curve on the MG4 to see how long is it at it's max charge rate if starting at a low SoC(10% or less). Interesting watched Jonny Smith review and he didn't show the two level boot system like you showed or it's not available in the UK. I like the centre console compared to the Polestar 2 being more open and not feeling hemmed in like the P2. How was the rear window in the rain during your drive without the wiper unlike the Cupra you showed? Any stat on the drag coefficient?

See Bjorn Nyland's real driving tests. WLTP still leaves me guessing. EVs seem to perform quite poorly under load; I didn't hear that WLTP includes any. I have seen where EV pickup trucks towing trailers had range reduced to about 100 miles(warm weather)from 300 estimated . Maybe the solution shows a range of use. They should have a city / hwy figure. 4 numbers light city, light hwy, heavy city, heavy hwy. The consumer can then pick that which matches their driving needs and get a reasonably close guess as to what they will achieve.

    Regen in Cruise ? Is speed limiter available straight away without settings interference.?

    • @NevoEVReviewIreland
      @NevoEVReviewIreland  Před 2 lety

      2 great questions Byron and I don't have a definitive answer. I'll try and find out but will be getting it for a longer spin soon. With adaptive regen I assume so. Speed limiter I think will be diving into the dash or present one of the shortcut buttons on the steering wheel

    • @bdeithrick
      @bdeithrick Před 2 lety +1

      @@NevoEVReviewIreland it’s a shame cus you need 30 and strong regen for town. This is so leaf like has to be a winner

    • @NevoEVReviewIreland
      @NevoEVReviewIreland  Před 2 lety +1

      Q -Does the cruise control use regen?
      Yes - when using ACC the vehicle decelerates, which passes energy back into the battery
      Q - Can the speed limiter be added as a favourite on the steering wheel?
      A - No it can’t

    • @bdeithrick
      @bdeithrick Před 2 lety

      @@NevoEVReviewIreland ah I’ll have to get a long term test on it.
      The speed limiter needs to be ready on the stalk. I don’t see a stalk , is it on wheel buttons?
      And not having to go to screen to turn it on like the ZS.
      Not using friction braking while in ACC is good as people yoyo in front of you it’s not shaving off carbon material.
      Maybe it will be refused like the ID.3 for the taxi fleet . Boot size maybe .

    Also this or Mégane?

      Very orange. Like very. It's been so longer since I drove the Megane I'd need to refresh my memory. There will be a big difference in price so not sure it's fair to compare.... This is more Zoe price and no competition there

      I had the Megane reserved but after the shambles of the cut down UK spec i cancelled and have reserved an artic white MG4 Trophy. No contest in value for money and with higher MG warranty.

      I did consider the orange but just too loud after seeing real world photos in last week. Green was my top choice but that is only available on the Performance model next year ( june / july 23)

    Great review. One that really got to me.
    Dash has an i3 similarity.
    Boot much bigger than Ora Cat but below id and ionic etc.
    Volcanic orange did not look to bad. Will have to see it live.
    Can't wait for actual prices. A new car for the price of a secondhand Leaf. It's a no brainer (if i had a brain). Have to see it in the flesh.
    I have a new mission.... to try and get you to put your second hand on the steering wheel and not your leg. Wish me luck.😇
