    I think the most impressive part of the entry model is how it is the first car to truly be price competitive with ICE cars. It is cheaper than an entry level 1.5 Golf. It's not far off the price of a base Vauxhall Astra. You get far more base tech, all that without considering the electrification.

      yep bin the electric seats and make the range and price better. nothing more annoying than waiting for the seats to move back enough to get in when your shorter partner has used the car and its raining and you jave to lean in switch on the ignition first.

    • @Tore_Lund
      @Tore_Lund Před rokem +18

      @@edwilko8819 Just your weight savings of manual seats is translatable into longer range. Car manufacturers are shooting themselves in the foot, not offering minimalist models because that means fewer batteries needed per vehicle as the vehicle gets lighter, so more cars off the line per year, also from an environmental perspective, a frugal EV needs less charging and as they can produce more of them the transition goes faster.

    • @Tore_Lund
      @Tore_Lund Před rokem +1

      @@_TrueDesire_ Cost of new EVs is a road block, both sales wise and production wise and weight is the #1 kWh eater in city traffic. Must admit, I've never bought a new car: Not only a money issue, but I don't drive that much. My current EV is 20 years old and it was cheap too and had down payed it's footprint when I got it! I don't like the fat C-pillars of new cars, they give lousy rear visibility. Likewise the very thick doors, they make the whole vehicle wider. and they (the cars) are significantly heavier than 20-30 years ago because of that, so it is not only the infotainment system I'm complaining about. A rule of thumb, to have an agile EV that has also has reasonable range, is that battery weight is at least 1/3 of curb weight., That means that weight savings needs to be designed into the rest of the car. We have million $ Lambos with hand crank windows for weight savings, like to see more of that thinking with EVs. It would be like how affordable Chinese neighborhood EVs are made today, but instead of small 12kWh battery, you put 30-40kWh in it and get 350 km range and it would be a significantly cheaper vehicle too, than even short range full size European and US EVs, This MG is converging on that kind of thinking.

      Why many EV manufacturers use a single EV motors and transfer the power through mechanical differential and half-shafts to the wheels is counterproductive to EV efficiency. Having four independent direct-drive motors in the wheel hubs is a far more efficient means of power distribution. Nice design. Plenty of obviously great points as an EV, but one thing I liked about the rear hatch - it's a squared-off shape, which means this car will be useful for load-lugging more often than many realise. My wife used to drive a Citroën AX, which was a brilliantly efficient thing - she even carried an armchair in the back. Eventually swapped it for a Peugeot 206, a bigger car with a far more fiddly shaped hatch opening - no chance of getting anything as big in there.

You save a ton of money and still get between 95% and 99% of the real benefits of going electric. The acceleration of a vehicle like the MG four is still far faster than a petrol car and it is a lot faster than most people will ever actually use. Accelerating faster than a car like the MG4 can accelerate is physically uncomfortable and it’s also highly dangerous.

    Great direction, just give EVs to the masses, without overly convoluted stuff and unnecessarily big battery packs. Thank you MG!
    Also for every interior designer and car maker: please, PLEASE ditch the piano black completely, or keep at least 10cm distance from anything you frequently touch!
    For me the design language is previous gen Toyota, e.g. the Mirai - quite a resemblance. The double back wing is also familiar from somewhere, maybe Civic type R or Jaguar - LandRover products.

    Badge snobbery?!!.....This is by mindless sheep who know nothing about the brand and heritage......one of the only 3 foreign marque's to win the Mille Miglia, Le Mans, Speed Records......the lists goes on! Fabled racing drivers such as Stirling Moss, Earl howe, Capt Eyston, Donald Cambell, Tazio Nouvolari ect.........the likes of which VW and other brands (let alone KIA and Hyundai), could only dream about!
    Oh yes, and Chinese not British?.......in the same way that Jaguar land Rover is Indian and Rolls, Bentley and Mini are German and Vauxhall are French!
    And to sum it up, the world over is raving about its comparison to the Lamborghini Urus!
    A brilliant brilliant review by someone who takes the pure essence of a car, and distills it into what makes it great!👍

    It's so nice to hear a car reviewer speak in a natural conversational voice rather than with Top Gear intonation!

    The first car since the heavily discounted Zoe ZE40 (I bought one for £17.8 k Inc battery and £4.5k grant in 2017) that looks like good value and the MG is a good looking thing too

      Same here. I bought my Zoe ZE40 end of 2018 for just over 18K with battery (after incentives). Might have just found Zoe's replacement in the long range MG4.

      @@martinconlon2673 I sold mine after three years and bought a cheaper Mercedes SLK, I am a total sinner I almost bought an E208 but so expensive for what it is and I love convertibles. The Mégane E-Tech may turn out to be decent value used in a few years too

      If I won one of those lotteries I don't play, the only thing that would stop me is if they released a big boot estate variant (would like something smaller than the 5).

    Well colour me impressed.
    Finally a car show that focuses on the actual cars rather than the overbearing personalities of the presenters.
    To put it another way, an intelligent and entertaining programmme that's not marred by "stupid stunts" dominating the screen (my lawyer helped with the wording of that!)
    Everything about the production of this channel is first class - video, audio, content, presentation, editing, etc.
    The on screen graphics are simple yet informative and the host is a genuinely likeable person who knows what he's talking about.
    This show should be on national or network TV across the world if it isn't already.

    Great to meet you at FCL in San Diego. As a kid was enamored with the MG T series and drew the MG logo so many times. LOL If I ever move to a country where this is available, Where do I sign?

    Hmm, interesting. Finally, a hatchback. I agree with Chris Till below. I also wonder: how's the build quality compared to the Teslas? But a MG3, Zoe sized electric car, preferably with hot hatch performance really would be my kind of thing. I do like the look, mostly from the front...

    At last we're getting there, a useful EV that's more affordable. If they can make/import enough it will do well - so what's the expected import number going to be? Kind of reminds me of the BYD Atto 3, and again once they can import it at that price they will find buyers. Any news on rhd BYD Dolphin? Good job, Bobby.

    Actually love the look, range is a little low preference would be closer to 400 plus but if you only go locally on short trips it's perfect.
