- The Village or Pine Knot Village is the commercial area of Big Bear lake. Located at Village Drive and Pike Knot Avenue, the Village is shopping, dining and entertainment center of Big Bear Lake.
Big Bear Lake is a small city in San Bernardino County, California, located in the San Bernardino Mountains along the south shore of Big Bear Lake, and surrounded by the San Bernardino National Forest. The city is located about 25 miles northeast of the city of San Bernardino, and immediately west of the unincorporated town of Big Bear City.
Big Bear Lake is Southern California's largest recreation lake. It is about seven miles long and about one mile at its widest. The primary summer attraction in Big Bear was fishing and it still is one of the most common activities there. The most abundant types of fish are trout, bass and catfish. Hiking, mountain biking and horse riding are also very popular. San Bernardino National Forest offers many trails in varying degrees of difficulty. During winter season Big Bear Lake becomes a skiing and snowboarding destination for Southern California. There are two ski resorts: Snow Summit and Bear Mountain.

Just a tip, if you are gonna visit, come on Tuesday and leave before Friday. The traffic jams on and off the mountain are really bad right now, but during the week they are less. Also if there is a possibility of snow, please bring chains just in case, so many people end up in car accidents because they aren't prepared.

Big Bear is a great place but I agree that traffic jams can be really bad. Also grocery stores are incredibly crowded.
What time of the year are you talking about? I am planning to visit after Thanksgiving.
I remember the Coffee and Tea at the Gateway shopping center used to be a Starbucks back in the day.

Something I'd like to point out is that right now we are having very heavy traffic we have more people coming to the Big Bear Valley than we have ever had in over 40 years so if you plan on staying the night make sure you get your lodging taken care of farn advanced I had some friends come up thought they were going to stay the night at Motel 6 and found out it was over $400 a night at Motel 6 sucks I would not pay $400 a night what the vast amount of vacation rentals we have that are going fast make sure you get your lodging before you come to town

the lowest temperature right now in big bear is around -5c and the highest 10c and the temperature drops a lot more during winter peak
Big Bear is 7,000 feet above sea level. It gets cold in the winter. Just because it's sunny doesn't mean it's warm.
