@@mit6089 Lol what is windows if there was no Unix to begin with you seems like very new to this things I was the person who was growing up at that time I still remember getting vista trials in our school that was introducing the first computer lab in my school for an year Only looks was good it wasn't ahead it used to toss most of the basic kernel commands and programming on it was the worst nightmare.
It actually isn't, it's called writebacking, different from swapping
And Samsung ram plus is just a custom writebacking mechanism implementation based over zram(they call it sqzr internally), Linux kernel already had support for it but Samsung likes to do custom implementations

You should have opened more applications.. Unless the total RAM exhaustion goes above 8gb(for this particular phone), virtual ram will not come into play. Virtual ram does help in retrieving the application data faster provided the data (swap file) has been moved to storage space as compared to loading a task that has been killed due to dearth of RAM

This difference might not be visible to you due to that you are using a phone with good RAM management and it already having 8GB ram. Try testing the same with midrange phones of 4gb ram with extended ram feature. You might get to know the difference better.

It's simple swapping in OS and regular process Management cycle.
Custom ROM users already know about virtual ram. It's known as zRAM or SWAP and it was available in most android phones before 2021 too. For eg: Realme1 had 2gb zRAM by default
It's helpful for phones with low ram. It may help in high end phones too but it's all marketing strategy

No bro, Catalyst make the reaction proceed faster (or sometimes slower, depending on the catalyst).

To write karte karte wo degrade hoti hai aur kuchh time baad dead ho jati hai. Virtual ram apki storage me hi extra ram banati hai aur uska degradation hota jata hai. 8 gb jo hai uska to kaam hi hai ram ka lekin jo 3 gb extra bana hai wo to FLASH STORAGE hai.

Virtual ram seems illogical for a 8gb ram phone it should be better implemented for phones having ram less than 6gb.and bhai you explained this concept very clearly.

I'm using the nord n200 5g and it's made a massive difference for me. Going from the built in 4gb of ram to 7gb by adding the maximum of 3gb in the settings. It feels like a flagship now. Amazing what some software trickery can do

I got base redmi note 12pro+ recently and i found out there is upto 5gb memory extension option and i feel like it's nonsense as far as my understanding goes memory management systems are smart enough to use internal storage to compensate when system runs out of memory so basically memory extension, however performance drop(lag) is eminent as speed difference is of several multitudes
FYI an amd mx333's( not sure about model number) l1 cach topped out at 13gbs that is the fastest memory on a system directly connected to processor cores and a midrange smartphone these days for example iqoo 7 got ram that is like 50+gbs for reference that and system supports memory upto 3gbps i found this really intriguing

I think this feature of virtual ram might help budget/ midrange devices with 6 or less gb of ram. Because 8gb ram itself is more than enough for the smartphone. 🤔
