    Honestly, I've had my harbor freight stand for a good 3 years and have yet to have a problem with it. Then again my bike doesn't have arms to bend it in half....

      I'm sure the companies he is supporting (whether paying him or not) are great, but many cheaper stands are absolutely fine. The ones he bent prove nothing of how well they work as stands, he put stress in a way they just simply will not be stressed in use for what they were designed.

      So i notice everyone in this thread says the Harbor Freight stand is fine except the guy who pointed out he has the ZX10R. Which got me wondering, what and how large of bikes do you other folks have? Maybe the Harbor Freight is just sketchy with 1000cc bikes 🤷

    I’ve been using reasonably priced stands for years and not once had a problem of a bike being poorly supported or fall. Just take time to adjust them properly and they’ll serve you fine. You don’t need stands that cost hundreds of £’s or $’s.

    • @sportbiketrackgear
      @sportbiketrackgear  Před 6 lety +36

      There are plenty of riders who have used cheaper stands and not had a problem for sure. There are also plenty of stories from riders who learned this lesson the hard way. IMO there are better places to save a few bucks than a set of motorcycle stands. The purpose of this is to show even though they may look similar in the photos they are not all created equal. All riders should do their own research before purchasing so their expectations match the end result. Thanks for sharing your experience. - Brian Van

Not only is the design and thickness of components important, the actual material (steel) analysis, heat treatment, welding technique, and many, many other things. Well that box store sold 90% garbage all at marked up prices then had "Sales" to make people feel like they were getting a good deal. Witch makes it difficult getting the bike on the stand and I have to get help to safely get my heavy 545 lb wet weight Kawasaki ZRX1200R off the stand. I don’t know what brand , no name on it but it definitely doesn’t look as strong as a Pit Bull and feels unsafe without the spool adapters. Pitt bull stands are definitely great but honestly they're not affordable to everyone and the fact that they nickel and dime for every little feature like axle holders, caliper holder and even the pin to lift the triple tree! despite the already high starting price is very discouraging honestly.

    He ain't wrong. The pitbull stuff is just miles ahead of less expensive stands in terms of quality and strength. You buy a pitbull stand you're never going to have to replace it if you're using it for it's intended purpose. and it's going to have no problems supporting any bike on the market. You can put a bike up on a pitbull stand and then sit on the bike, and you'll feel completely stable. I tried sitting on my 675 while it was up on a HF equivalent stand and it didn't feel secure at all getting up on the bike. After I got off I could see that one of the pipes had flexed.
    I haven't owned any woodcraft stands, but if their stands are like they crash protection products, they're also going to be excellent.

      Im a big fan of stg. But I Agreed I have the same trackside rear, as well as the trackside fork lift and head lift. The fork lift is honestly a little sketchy. The head stand is 100% safe and fine. Notice the only one he tries to bend are $100+ stand vs a $ harbor freight stand. I can't bent my trackside stands with any reasonable amount of force, that includes standing on it while its on its side. Ill give you alot of the fork lift stands are sketchy, some better than others. But by the logic of this video, bike stands should be made out of 3" solid steal bar. That way if you try to use is as a shackle between two trucks doing a tug of war, your bike won't fall over? 🤷‍♂️ lol. Seems like alot over unnecessary energy and flexing in a tight shirt going on here.. "watch me bend 10ga aluminum in a direction it wasn't ment to be stressed!!"

Sure, but that comes at a cost. Like Van said he's no engineer so he's bending the stands at a direction that the stands would never go. If I plan on using stands sideways I will buy pitbull stands.

I've worked as a Design and Development Engineer for quite sometime, and i promise you companies don't spend £100,000,000 on developing their products for nothing, unfortunately this does put the top line up, but you have just proved why.i don't race any more, and i had to sell my old British and kickstart only bikes due to illness, but happily for me I can ride some of my later bikes (electric start). I had exactly the problem you envisaged in your senario. I had a good collection 19, and i wanted all matching paddock stands, and i looked and looked, their were real expensive ones, or affordable ones that were shite, so I built my own. I went to a scrap yard, and bought all the thick angle iron they had, measured twice, cut once, welded them up, and they are still going strong well into their 2nd decade. The amount of people that have tried to borrow (???) them is rediculess.
