I freak’n love ya Michael! One of the best channels on the Tube. You do a great job 👏
Wow, thank you! It's comments like this that keep me motivated along with my love of boats and motors.
Hard to beat factory colors with new decals if you can get them.
the factory stuff does look good, thanks for watching
Great video Michael! Love the channel. You have really helped me bring my ‘74 Evinrude 25 back to its old glory. So glad to see you are now doing a 50 because that is going to be my next project. I like the thought of painting the motor to match the banana. That is what I hope to do with my old StarCraft.
Great to hear! thanks for watching
I like the idea of color matching to the banana with nice Decals. I enjoy your videos and have been watching you for several years. Keep up the good work looking forward to see it on the banana. You next contest can be the guess on how fast it will push your boat im guessing 34
"WAY too much money in the boat" Isn't that always the boat way? (Liking the new intro music!!)
Thanks for noticing the change and thanks for watching
Michael, yesterday I had a nice ride on my 1232 Jon boat pushed by my 1977 9.9 Evinrude that I bought all messed up and now starts on the first pull and run buttery smooth! I have on the table now a 1975 Johnson 25 horse that have 120psi on both cylinders it's now firing up but not holding the idle yet. So, you know what kind of person I am.....love this old motors!
Sounds like you are doing to good stuff there, thanks for watching
Awesome!! I have a 1983 50hp Evinrude (E50BELCTA) on a 1984 Boston Whaler Sport 15-footer! Awesome engine. Looking forward to see you work on the water pump. That's my current project. 😎
coming real soon, thanks for watching
@@Michaelsbackyardmarina I just finished. the hardest part was finding the shift rod linkage. I found that removing the 3 bolts on the starter and pulling it aside was the easiest way to find it. also found some great videos (after tons of searching) that helped, so just let me know if you need the links. also found helpful info in some forums. oh and I disconnected a little cotter pin and bolt on the other side of the engine while reinstalling the lower unit. that made reconnecting the shift rod much easier.
Hey Michael.....Can't wait for all these new videos coming!!! I would paint that motor a very Bright Blue....both colors would look really sharp.....
thanks for the suggestion and thanks for watching
Michael, I enjoyed the video on the 50hp Johnson outboard. It looks like it will be a real good motor! I think you should color match the motor to the boat and install all new decals. It would a custom look! Looking forward to more videos and seeing what you do with it.
Thanks for the idea! Thanks for watching.
The 83 had a dark blue metallic! Really nice color 👍, With black and red white accents! My choice. Looking forward to your oem and Amazon comparisons as I have some cheap kit on the shelf!?!?
Thanks for the suggestions and thanks for watching
Looking forward to seeing you work on the 50, I would put it back to factory colors, I Just went threw putting together a 1990 Johnson 50 for our boat.
What pitch prop do you have on that 50? thanks for watching
@@Michaelsbackyardmarina 12 1/2 x 13, that was the prop that was on it, it came off a pontoon boat. It gets out of the hole great, but only tops out at 28 MPH when 2 are on it. My son says it will top out at 32 MPH what him in it.I was hoping to get more out of it. I would like to try a different pitch to get more out the top end. MY RPM's are 5000
Michael thank you for going back to outboard motors we want to see more Boat motors there's not enough videos on boats
Thanks for watching, plenty more content coming.
Fun project indeed. Maybe you ought to be adventurous on that new look. I was thinking of a 2-colour scheme with using an heat shrink wrap on the bonnet, a tartan design would look wild and totally in synch with that screaming yellow hull. One notch down, you may be inspired by the late 60's Scott-Atwaters that sported pastel colored (turquoise, yellow or orange) bonnets along with cream beige for the lower unit. Hell, why not match the hull. As to the bonnet's foam insulation, Kodibass spray paints it so it will hold up better and avoid debris being sucked up trough the carb. Stay safe and be merry ! 🇨🇦
Wow that is a lot to digest, thanks for watching
I redid my 84 60 hp Evinrude and did a search for different decals did gold cursive Evinrude decals looks pretty good
Love your videos they actually inspired me to rebuild that 60
Ok, I like that, thanks for watching
Michael,
Great video if I were going to paint the motor I would go with the Evinrude Silver Blue with the matching decals on the engine cover, if that does work you could also do the Evinrude Blue with the decals on the engine cover. Can't wait to see the carb work and the what you find on the linkage
Cool idea, thanks for watching and suggestion
@@Michaelsbackyardmarina i just thought of another idea and that is paint the bottom of the motor the Evinrude blue and the cover the Silver and blue with the decals
Thanks
Tim
I like gloss black with canary yellow graphics
Would be a nice contrast for sure, thanks for watching
👍👍👍Avocado Green and New decals would look would awesome on back of The Banana . Hope Y’all had a good Thanksgiving . Enjoyed it cant wait to seen more videos about both 50s. Drone footage 👍👍. Spring a be here before ya know it cause this year as flew by .. As always Sir thanks for the ride along 👍👍👍
You know I want an Avocado green boat similar to the banana. I will give it some thought, Thanks for watching
@@Michaelsbackyardmarina didn’t Glasspar also come in a coppery orange looking color too
Hi- I'd go with the color white with black logo's. Have a great day!!!!!! Illinois, USA
Thanks for the suggestions and thanks for watching
I think I’d paint it black. Looking forward to how it turns out. ✌️
thanks for watching
White with yellow trim to match the banana with a black top. Then add Evinrude factory stickers.
Jim
Not a bad idea at all, thanks for watching and commenting
Denim Pewter
It's a Harley color. I have it on my 2015 Street Glide. I think that and the yellow would look excellent together!
I know what color you are talking about, thanks for watching
factory paint w decals, got 2 87' 50s , about carbs, easy rebuilds, for sure remove core plugs on top of carbs, 2 or3 small holes under it that need to be cleaned they are part of the idle circuit, the sync & link can be fun, at one time there was a factory manual on line, i''ll see if i can find the link again
Thanks for the tip and thanks for watching
Michael I enjoyed your video I would paint the Evinrude with white with blue stripes with decals
Thanks for you suggestion and thanks for watching
I see this video came out 5-months ago; so my suggestions are probably too late, but..: Sand it down, fix any major defects, paint it white, and apply (year appropriate) Evinrude 50 decals. Additionally, I think that keeping the tiller handle grey is fine.
just a little late, thanks for watching though.
Michael, paint it to match the boat, with big Chiquita decals on the sides.
Chiquita decals, Liking that, thanks for watching
Black with yellow pin stripe and custom stickers for the side.
I like the custom stick idea, thanks for watching
Great video. You do a fantastic job…informative AND entertaining.
Did you ever do videos on the ‘73? I have a 72 Johnson 50 hp and those are hard to come by.
Thanks!
I haven't just yet, but I have one to do this winter, thanks for watching
Gotta see that 50hp push that tri. I've got an 80hp on mine I've yet to run on water. Gears are grinding over picking up 50hp spare.
good luck with your project for sure, thanks for watching
Quick question I have the exact same outboard the 1973 50hp outboard but IAM looking for the control box for
I currently don't have a spare, thanks for watching
Banana boat yellow with silver pin striping and factory decals
that's a good color combo. Thanks for watching
I think the camo would look good with the yellow, but I would repaint the motor to match the tiller color
I think the camo would look good against the yellow too, thanks for watching
My brother had a 14 foot Boston whaler in the 70's with a sizzler 50 think it was blue and white
Ok, any idea what pitch prop he ran on it? Thanks for watching
I have a 50 hp tiller johnson that seized up while on the lake last year needed a tow back to dock, the handle looks identical to yours and I am sure its a lower 80's motor, I would go traditional White color scheme mine looks pretty neat traditional Johnson color, I am not positive but pretty sure i would need a powerhead from only a few early 80's years that would work i think after 86 there different? and below 82 i just don't know.
Whats ironic is today i was testing a Evenrude 1973 50 hp in the water on the dock, could not get it to fire, went home and found they had NGK bpmr4a plugs in it (bacically like chainsaw plugs or weed trimmer) so i bought the correct spark plugs and two spark checkers and went to the dock again, no luck wouldn't fire up, went home had the better half turn the key while i looked for spark, got spark and 142/140 compression so it's a fuel issue i have to dig into, the new plugs were dry no smell no gas. fun city
I’ve followed you to help me work on my 9.9/15 Evinrudes. This weekend I picked a project boat with a 1982 Johnson 35 with remote controls. I don’t know how to use the controls. How do I tell which battery cable goes to positive? The terminals aren’t black and red. The remote control box doesn’t have a key? How do I know which key to buy? Do I need a key to operate it? If it’s not too cold maybe you can do a video on OMC remote control operation?
I look forward to your coming videos this winter.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge!
John
Montana
you will need to watch an up coming video when I hook the remote control up the my 1973 50hp. Should be very similar, thanks for watching.
The Johnson outboard
yeppers
Wight with yellow flames. Wondering if you would no where I can get tiller handle for a 9.5 Evinrude ? In North Eastern Iowa.
I would key an eye out on eBay for the tiller parts. Thanks for watching
hi love th chanel i have a rdsl-22c no spark 2 wire from gen and 2 wires to spark plugs and hot to starter ground at box with silinod is the gen fried?
I like oem colors
I think OEM looks good too, thanks for watching
Ps love your videos
Well thank you so much and thanks for watching
You like that 60s/70s color scheme, so to match that yellow, why not do the motor cover in 70s green with 70s yellow decals, and then the shaft be either black or silver.
Good suggestions, Everyone has good ideas, Let's see what I go with.
Well main is a blue gray and white top/ cover but what might look good on the banana boat light yellow and white cover that or back to the factor color. Are you going to go through all of the fuel system like fuel pump
Going through it all for sure, thanks for watching and your color thoughts
Personally I always liked the color that Evinrude used that year. I would make it look original with original decals. I too am restoring an Evinrude this winter. A 1994 30hp. I don't care for the original color which is a dark Navy blue. I'm thinking I'll spray it Yamaha's newer gray blue.
I think the original color hides mistakes and flaws better, thanks for watching
for colour I would go for the outboard has got to be multi yellow camo
That would be a cool look, thanks for watching
Hey bud I like original color I have a 1986 Johnson 70 horse runs good but if I had a boat that I wonted to get closer to same color I would match it and get the original stickers and use all or part of them
Could be the plan, thanks for watching
The color should match the boat. It would make the boat look longer and more sleek.
That's some good thought and suggestion, thanks for watching
Maybe Black which would look good with the Banana
I thought about that too, thanks for watching
i love your shirt
Thanks and thanks for watching
I think you should paint it Canary Yellow to match the Banana Boat.
Matching the boat is a great idea, thanks for watching
Like the new intro
Hey thanks for noticing and thanks for watching
Hello I need to know where I can get parts for my 25 Johnson 1972 it's on the back of my 1960 14 foot V Haul river boat
Check out marineengine.com that's where I find a lot of quality parts.
Original colors by far!!!!
Original always looks nice. thanks for watching
British racing green and yellow/white decals.
Would look good together, thanks for watching
The older one has electric choke and newer one has electric primer and mine had a factory plastic sack with a rope and plug and small screwdrivers and stuff under the hood on the side have u seen any with that on swamp people 😅lol they have 115 and 150s with tillers 😮candy apple red or canary yellow with factory decals to match the boat unless u going to sell it then just go factory black 😂
Thanks for the suggestions and comment, and thanks for watching
Paint it the original to match the tiller then add white and black stripes to the foot add white section on the hood with black logos
Wow, that's some great detail, thanks for watching
Factory fresh
I Think The 73 Johnson colors would look good on it
The factory is a pretty good look, Thanks for watching
Michael I got a question ❓ I'm a new boater and I got a 1972 Evinrude starflite 85 HP. Could you tell me if it has a pee hole. I would appreciate it if you could let me know. By the way I enjoy your videos
Not sure that it does, there may be a couple of holes out the back upwards towards the cowling that water may come out of. I haven't done one of those yet, thanks for watching
dark blue and white stripes
thanks for the suggestion and thanks for watching
Black contrast to yellow
Thanks for both suggestions and thanks again for watching
We just won a seamster for £26 on Ebay same engine had it going after 13 yrs in 12minutes fast.haha

Evinrude blue
WHITE WITH A SUPER-CLEAN RACING LOGO
Thanks for the suggestion and thanks again for watching
match to the boat color canary yellow.
I have considered that. thanks for watching
Paint the camo motor white with yellow and black decals
interesting color combo, thanks for watching
Yellow with black trim. Make it custom
I'm pretty sure custom is going to be the way to go, thanks for watching
white and yellow
Thank you for your comment and thanks for watching
A banana tree , and a banana with a 50 in the banana label hanging fron tree.
That sounds like a fun paint job. thanks for watching
How about painting it like your shirt?
That would be very bright, maybe I could wrap it. thanks for watching
Competition Orange
that would be a nice bright color for it, thanks for watching
Paint it the original silver bluem with straight silver accents
That is a pretty color combo, thanks for watching
Original
Yellow and red or yellow and white
I'm liking the yellow and white combo. Thanks for watching
IT'S GONNA BE SOOO DANG FAST IT NEEDS SOME ATTITUDE !
I would agree, thanks for watching
Green and blue isn't that 71 colors
I have no idea, this one I'm doing in the video is an 83, thanks for watching
