This single scene is worth 100 oscars !! She EXCUTED him - what a brilliance in dialogue writing ? !! The film was clinically perfect... How many times I keep watching.... still want to watch it again !!
Ohhh those films and those actors ….the writing , the scenery, the direction , the production, costumes and the makeup …superb….those were the glory days of the movie industry…im lucky to be able to see yesterday and todays movie industry…
Charles Laughton is the supreme actor for me the best past and present so versatile, drama, comedy he could do it all. Love his readings also just superb. ❤️
I guessed both that Leonard was indeed the killer and Christine was faking it as soon as the story about the cruise enquiry.. Nobody goes to enquire for a cruise for a fun with a lady whom he just met a bar, especially when he claims that he's madly in love with his wife.. That stuck out like a sore thumb..
Also, even without Christine's testimony, Leonard would have got out as there was no concrete evidence.. All evidence was circumstantial which Wilfred easily swatted away..
Dame Agatha Christie wrote a brilliant play that became a brilliant movie directed by the incredible Billy Wilder, this the standard by which all adaptions should be judged.
She always thanked the fellas who did her lighting for her. She said they made her Marlene. She took care of them all. She knew knew lightening and angles from her early years in Germany. Absolutly gorgrous
If you ever get a chanced watch Charles Laughton directed himself. NIGHT OF THE HUNTER. it was panned and made nothing but it’s on many lists as one of the BEST movies ever. Back then it was panned cause they didn’t know how to market it. Give it a try. You’ll never forget it. A true CLASSIC
I am crying wet tears....this is Marlene...this is the good part of Germany' downfall. Having committed a black and bad crime because of the war, rescued by the enemy and having become a mistress Fräuleinwunder to get out of this empty mess. And then being hatted and misunderstood in front of the court helping out of passion and love becoming a betrayed ex and then a blue revenge angel, all alone again, old and beautiful but not holy, as it should have been.
...just notice something. just after she says "let them try me for..." there was a weird audio cut. also her mouth was still moving. I think the whole line is "let them try me for murder" but maybe the audio screwed up or she said it oddly, and they had to cut it. Just a theory...
@Gibrocks absolutely agree! although I read recently that she wasn't nominated because to do so would have required including her full performance, including the other character. and that production didn't want to give away the 'secret' of the film. sadly, to preserve that, she got robbed of being nominated. It still remains one of my 10 favorite all-time films. One of Billy Wilder's genius achievements. the details are great. the acting wonderful across the board, but especially marlene.
Well, Emily French did get justice in the end--Leonard REALLY had it coming... Oh, and on a side note--Leonard, if your wife is helping you get off on a murder charge, go ahead and dump her. What could possibly go wrong with that?

One of the greatest scenes in cinema history.
Charles Laughton what an absolutely superb talent!👌
truly a classic. Marlene is a great actress.
Eddie Leon I love her in Golden Earrings with Ray Milland.
One of the bests movies I have ever seen in all of my life!
Marlene Dietrich was robbed! She deserved the best Supporting Actress Oscar for this!
it was a Leading Role - not a supporting one. and she was nominated for a Golden Globe Award as an Actress in a Leading Role that year
She should’ve been nominated for an Oscar. Such a shame that the studio’s marketing strategy hurt her chances.

"killed him? she executed him."

@@juttaguttler948 You know this is not a Hitchcock movie?
😂😂
This is a masterpiece!
And Dietrich was criminaly robbed in 1957.
I don't know why I get emotional when I hear "she executed him". Sir Wilfred is full of emotions without flinching.
One of my most loved movies.
Charles Laughton was amazing!
An actors actor.
One of my most loved movies. Excellent acting, script, and drama.
Wonderful film! Suspense and comic turns galore. The plot twists are first-rate!

This is a good movie to see if you're not really into old movies. This one holds you're attention. Dietrich is really good in it too.
My favorite Agatha Christie story. And the best movie version ever..And Then There Were None ranks as second favorite.
This was just superb.. here Billy Wilder improved the original story
one thing I just noticed:
The reflection of Wilfrid's monocle on the knife, implying that he wanted her to "execute" him.
Subtle and brilliant.
Thanks for pointing it out, Brings a whole new look on the lawyer
Good point.
bhuggz131 Wow, I had to go back and check that out. Good eye!
@@maroanouadi9782 so to speak
OMG I've seen this movie dozens of times and never notice it!
Yes, Wilfred's monocle was the inception of his demise!
I would be very happy if we still had such extraordinary and high-quality actors today as we did when this film was made!
Dame Agatha Christie wrote a brilliant play that became a brilliant movie directed by the incredible Billy Wilder, this the standard by which all adaptions should be judged.
Wanna kiss me... DUCKIE... CLASSIC... i died on that part. lol lol CLASSIC
Ms Lacrease me to!
A brilliant film. Excellent cast. Torin Thatcher and Una O'connor must be mentioned.
MARLENE DIETRICH WAS 56IN THIS MOVIE SHE LOOKS WONDERFUL
She always thanked the fellas who did her lighting for her. She said they made her Marlene. She took care of them all. She knew knew lightening and angles from her early years in Germany. Absolutly gorgrous
What a remarkable film!
"I never knew you British could get so emotional.....especially in a public place....."
ROTFLMAO!!!
she is amazing ...
Dietrich used to make superb (and substantial) lunches for Laughton during the filming of this.
MASTERPIECE!
Such a great film.

I saw the remake and the difference is so massive ... Brilliant acting.
Marlene absolute brilliant

Power was pretty good but William Holden would have been superb in the role.

... she didn't murder him - she executed him (SSSCREAMMMMMMMMMM !). lola, lola - naughtiest gael in town ....
One thing I just realized.. Janet McKenzie never got her hearing aid, so never got to hear all the rubbish that was being talked in those days
Well, Emily French did get justice in the end--Leonard REALLY had it coming...
Oh, and on a side note--Leonard, if your wife is helping you get off on a murder charge, go ahead and dump her. What could possibly go wrong with that?
WONDERFUL GOOD ACTORS AND MOVIE IS GOOD TOO ♥️
Shame that Dietrich wasn't even nominated for Oscars for this role
She didn 't care! She liked more giving show performances in Las Vegas!
Can't decide which is best ? This......or Dial M for Murder .
Both classics !
Can't we watch the complete movie?
The greatest 6 min in cinema history.
HIJO Y AMIGO RESPETEMONOS . ESTEMOS MAS UNIDOS QUE NUNCA, EL ENEMIGO OBSERVA Y SE ALEGRA CUANDO DISCUTIMOS COMO TON TOS. TE QUIERO MUCHO .papa.
Great scene
Love Charles Laughton ❤
5:29 Look at what's on the table before continuing.
What's on the table, besides the knife?
She executed him
Great film
i love it
Oh my god, what happened to her ear?
twistception
Non l'ha ucciso... l'ha giustiziato!
Was she speaking in a British accent?
milhouse14 She spent hours working with Laughton to get the Cockney accent down pat.
Milhouse no she is german. she is speaking in a german accent.
Marlena była ostra dziewczyna
movie?
