    Thanks a lot for your videos on Phonics, i find it extremely useful for non-native speakers studying English. I teach my kid using Apha Phonics book, however I was missing basic information about English phonics, Phases etc and morever its for AmE and I teach BrE, so your videos are essental for me. You deliver information in a nice and accessible way. Thank you very much.

    I'm teaching my 4 year old phonics and pre reading at home during the covid 19 lockdown. I am struggling with the order to teach. Can you give a simplified progressive order for adults to follow? Thank you so much for all of these videos. I am so happy to have found you.

    Thanks for the great video. I am an English leaner and English is my L2. When we are first taught the language, phonetic scripts were introduced (those scripts in dictionaries). And we didn't have the chance to learn phonics you talked about in the video. So my question is native speakers of English are taught phonics when you are young? Were you taught the phonetic symbols as well?

      Hi Lisha - children are usually taught letter sounds from age 4. They learn them together with the grapheme (what the letters look like). They do not learn phonetic symbols/IPA (I didn't learn those until my university days!). Hope that helps.

      @@LittleLearnersVideos Thanks for your answers. :) So you have to learn IPA when you get older? Or IPA is for ESL teaching?

      @LittleLearnersVideos  Před 4 lety +1

      @@lishaliu7417 Hi Lisha, no we don't have to learn IPA. I learnt it because I was studying child language acquisition 😊 I believe many EAL teachers find it useful to know also!

    Hello, thank you very much for your videos! Not living in the UK I'm interested to know how many years does it take for a child to complete all 6 phonics phases?

    • @LittleLearnersVideos
      @LittleLearnersVideos  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi there, it really depends on the child but we usually expect children to have a good understanding of Phase 6 by the end of Year 2, so when they are 7 years old.

    Hello, Mam . I got to see your videos on phonics. I must say you are doing a fantastic work on it. I have a query after watching your video on Synthetic phonics. In it you said letters -s,a,t,i,p,n would be good to begin for children so that they can learn to make simple to complex words. Are you talking about the children in lower kg or upper kg. In lower kg children are introduced to letters and sounds only. In upper kg children starts to read. So can you help me in which are letters do you prefer to start teaching at lower kg and how to introduce reading to children in lower kg after introducing 5 to 6 letters.

      Hello Kg sajeev, I can answer as a mother of young children - just started school and a teacher of adult English language learners.
      If you are teaching to children aged 3 or older, for whom English is a second lanaguage, Teach the letter sounds in the satpin order . They will be able to make words and practise reading quite quickly.
      If you are teaching younger children , who are learning English as their first language, Teach the letter sounds in any order.
      .I taught my children when they were two years old . I taught the most common letters first and taught q a x y z- as they are used less in English.
