Absolutely love Slash. I dont care if he isn't a technical genius, he is pure heart and the coolest looking player ever. Slash, top hat, les paul. Beautiful
I agree totally the coolest looking guy. And that's pretty important in rock and roll.
His "silhouette" alone could possibly be a rock icon
He has that 70s Vibe along with a little bit of Hells Angels.
He always comes across as really humble and down to earth aswell. Like he is just a huge fan of music and guitars, which I imagine is pretty much the same as anyone (us lot) watching clips like this on CZcams. Music is endless
my old bass player played for slash,,,at a party once he came up and said ..hi im slash...then he played the guns n roses pin ball machine ..
Slash is the reason why I picked up the guitar and wanna go on with life. He's my inspiration on everything I do.
He's my fav guitarist but I hope you'll not fall into drugs and alcohol like he did
@@aureusminiatures3692 I suspect that some drugs can extend your musicality, and endurance at creating, like doping at sports... I never tried though..
Only smoking some sticky icky and getting a tattoo
@@mr.fredriksson3885Smoking the sticky is a j shaped curve, if you go over the top, it will ruin you on guitar.
Slash is one of the few players that are instantly recognizable from the first note or two. It’s all that ‘in between’ stuff that gives him that “curley-cue” style that is totally his sound. One of my major influences, for sure.
Slash is the guy that made me pick up the guitar in the ‘90ties..
Love his style.
Rock on.
Because he always plays the same
@@91niconob anyone who has a "style" will have some repetition, but Slash has a ton of variety.
Sweet Child sounds nothing like Jungle, which sounds nothing like Estranged, or like Neither Can I, Serial Killer, Slither, By the Sword, Anastasia, Savage Sun etc. All those songs are independent of each other, and those are just to name a few. His catalog is about as varied as anyone's.
I heard his guitar tone in a song he did with Nikki Sixx and within the first two notes I said “holy shit that’s slash!” And my wife looked at me and called bullshit, so I googled it and sure enough, it was slash
Yes and that's become an underrated feature for all music. People's ability to have a distinctive sound.
The 'Slashatonic scale' 😂🤣 I love it! 😎🙌
Ah, Slash. The guitar hero with a top hat on his head, curly hair spilling out, cig in his mouth, sunnies over his eyes, les paul in his hands. In my opinion the guitarist who saved rock n roll
Couldn’t have said it better! 🙌🏽😎
And probably saved gibson sales
@@kevinalexander4383 😂😂😂
Well he prolonged its life, it kinda died out again, not i feel greta van fleet could be a chance to bring it back again, as a young guitarist i sure do wanna try to bring it back lol
@@jimmygubbins Well, you could bring it back, but not frocking GVF.
You describe Slash’s note choices as funky and dark. Perfect. The Don’t Cry solo, for instance… that ascending triplet run is so soulful!
His compositions are so heartfelt. And he has this beautiful style where I hear a mix of blues, flamenco, country, rock n roll.
Technical is a relative term; Slash has refined his playing to be an expression of his taste not a display of his technical skill. It shows how sophisticated his technique really is.
Slash makes excellent use of major and minor together. He rules!
I would love to se Eddie Van Halen one
He did one 7 months ago called unlock the EVH scale. That might keep you going.
Before he died it was literally oversaturated with his techniques how many people that would do videos over it and now especially since he's died not too many videos are done I'm slices technique cuz people don't notice how amazing he is
@@dazzwoof4943 🤡
Ohh yeah
There's been EVH overload on CZcams since he died and it all starts sounding the same, give me a Slash or Guns n Roses song any day, before Van Halen pop rock
I like lessons like this, such a cheerful fellow. I can tell he genuinely wants to teach
I watched an interview with slash a few months back where they asked if he thinks about all the sixths and thirds stuff when he plays and his answer I found interesting and encouraging too was that he just plays what sounds good to him he doesn’t worry so much about being technical as he’s more worried about what sounds good! Just found that interesting as Robert goes all guitar theory on his licks lol
Be careful. People who say this are still actually doing theory in their head. (Meaning they more or less are able to hear a musical idea in their head and are able to realize it on their instrument). What they really mean to say is that they never cared to learn how the theory in their head matches up with the agreed upon standard of names and terms given to those musical concepts. The people who criticize learning theory don't get that the names and terms are just for communication convenience. They aren't the essence of theory. The essence is being able to know to play 'that' note over 'that' chord change, etc., which slash is probably able to do to a certain degree.
@@pmcate2 good advice! I still trying to learn theory myself I just seen that interview I can’t remember who gave it but that was part of what the guy asks but your right!
@@pmcate2 very well put. Aint music beautiful!?
I think what he meant was that he breaks the rules (as he knows them-and we all operate on bits and pieces of whatever our current understanding is) when it sounds right. But don’t get too excited about being able to randomly pick notes, all good players have a strong set of rules they follow to sound that good. When you know the rules so well that you can break them and still sound good...you’re probably moving past intermediate level.
@@SketchEtcher I like the way you put that! Gonna use that to explain from now on! I’m still in the intermediate stage as well! It’s great it’s got so many layers to explore!
Another killer lesson from Greg Allman. Thanks Robert for all your vids especially the intros
I have been checking my subscription page for ages for this video! Thanks!! Slash is my guitar hero!!! 🤘🎸
Always great Robert! Really appreciate your lessons and who you are 👍
Slash hizo que toda una generación incluyéndome tomáramos una guitarra, el guitarrista de Rock más inflyente de los últimos 35 años.
This was great! I LOVE when you do these kind of lessons! Thank you
thanks so much!! I'm a huge fan of slash, and i have finally found someone who can break down his licks and demonstrate them perfectly!!!
He is an iconic guitarist, own sound own look. But so is bucket head.
Enjoying the content you provide and especially guitar hack concepts. It has given me additional ideas to incorporate into my own playing. Thanks for the work you put into your teaching.
The way I look at it is that you can make a major or minor scale sound as light or dark as you want depending on how you place your accents, imply a resolving tonal centre and bias it with non-chord tones as passing notes. A major scale can be twisted out of all recognition pretty easily, even if you're only playing the chord tones in the right places by the accent. Add in that Slash plays a LOT of hammer-on/pull-off triplets and the placement of the notes becomes even more complex. An exercise that I used for a while was a straight half or quarter time beat with a major/Ionian or natural minor/Aeolian over the top. Hit the "right" notes on the beat and add in a mixture off the beat. It's amazing how much you can get away with here even if you only add in one non-chord tone. That's just me anyway. Great lesson man!
been rockin those passing tones since i first learned appetite long time ago.. awesome video! thanks!
Slashatonic!! Love it! This certainly helps the whole concept he does when I’m trying to look at how he plays certain sections of songs so I can nail it down better.
Great video and great insight for us! Cheers Robert
Great lesson, Robert. Thank you.
thank you Rob this was the most fun i had all day!!
Thanks Robert! You're great bro! Cheers from Brazil!
cool stuff ! Slash"s raw new/old school sound really gives him a distinct style , thanks for the video !
Thanks so much man. I really enjoyed this. Going to practice these hard and try and incorporate into my playing
Awesome video lesson, thank you!
I love your videos. I pick up so much good stuff from you. Thanks so much. Really appreciate it. You Rock Man! 👊😎
I think we're gonna need a part 2 to this!!
I decided that this year was the year I got more serious about guitar practise and technique, so I bought the 8-course bundle!
Thank you so much for your positivity and for sharing your knowledge
Good lesson! 👏
Another excellent session with Brother Baker 😎🎩♠️
That lick with major 6th is straight out of Peter Green's playbook. Classic Blues playing the changes rock and roll. Love it.
Great video Robert
Nailed that Slash vibe, - mixing major and minor with a harmonic minor tonality mixed in
Very cool, thank you!
Slash is a very melodic player. In my view he’s one of the best. If u don’t think so try to play all the solos for November Rain to a backing track. Almost all guitarists couldn’t nail all the solos. Just remembering them is a challenge. That’s one song.
Great video. Thanks!
Great lesson.
this lesson is one of the best on slash tone style...so food man
Best teacher on the CZcams!!!
Love Slash ,He was Awesome Live ,Great Video 🤘🖤👊
Dude, I'll be back. Love the detail you go into!!!!!
Every time I see that km of yours, I have to get mine out. I love that guitar!
Very cool demonstration of Slashatonics. :-)
Brilliant lesson. Have a sub
Damn 😎 tone.
🤝
Thanks mate, Slash is one of my big inspiration
I would have to watch again later at home because now i'm at work
Flat Fifth. Diabolus in Musica. The Half Step of Evil in the Devil's Tritone!
Love love music and all its entertaining mythology. Great lesson, thanks.
your guitar is beautiful! That top and these pickups without the cover and with that yellow color is awsome!
great timing here, Slash was on this concert in memorium for Les Paul yesterday, He is so much fun to watch. PLus his stash of guitars ain't bad either...
Let’s gooooooo I’ve been waiting for this one
Best guitar youtuber out there. You rock the hair metal mondays🤘 I would love to see a Vito Bratta one👌🤘
Excellent video dude! Sub'd 🤘🤘
Hey Robert 👋, this is a great lesson! I never understood how Slash altered the pentatonic scale to make it sound so cool. I ❤️ learning from you
Practice the minor harmonic scale. Slash uses it a lot.
Nice job my friend .
Awesome brother from Warren 😎
Awesome 👏🏻 Slashatonic Scale 🎩🤟🏻
Your lighting is super on point. The daylight white to purple accents really pop and rhe color temp of your key light is the right color temperature for the whole thing - much less yellow than a whole back. Just wanted to specifically compliment that.
BTW - who is this young Slash person you’re going on about? 😜🤘🏻🎸
Man thanks so much. My wife is the one that does all that stuff so full credit to her on the lighting and coloring
Slash is the man he has been one of my many favorite guitarists growing up.
Thank you
Sweet man you rock
he nice to see u again Robert
This is the 1st video of yours I've seen and I thought it was going to be abou the Slash model Les Paul and got really excited because I recently bought one.
Hey Robert we need a Neil schaun tricks video! He's so underated.
Neil Schon rocks!!!!
Schon!
I love journey!
Hey Robert, checked out your sale on the 8 course bundle and I decided to pick it up! There's a ton of great licks here, perfect for breaking a rut or even just the usual plateau. Thanks and great value!
Thanks so much for checking it out

Hey Robert
I have a little favour to ask.
Could you please make a video about the special pick posture of rory gallagher. the pick is held at a certain angle, which causes permanent abrasion of the fingernail. so you play with pick and fingernail at the same time. I just don't know if I'm doing exactly the right thing or if there are other variations. I like the sound and would like to explore the whole thing a little further and develop it for myself.
Rock on
🐈
I Dig it dude!!!!
Loved it. Please do Randy Rhoads next
Hey Robert. Pretty cool all these videos and hacks n tricks but it would be nice if we could see n hear with some examples or songs behind, in a content.
Cheers. Best regards.
you give me a good mood.:)
As usual...your hair is PERFECT!
thank you it WAS FUCKKIIN AWESOME AND THATS WHAT I LOOKED FOR LIKE YEARS FINALLY THAANKS!❤👊🤘🤘🤘🤘
Rob, what's your signal path for this video? Sounds huge. Is that a plugin amp?
Excellent video as always duder! How about a Jason Becker perpetual burn riff-a-thon? Dude's got viscous arpeggios! Keep doing the good stuff!!!!!!!!!🤘😁🤘
Im a guitar teacher and been teaching since i was 27 and im now 31 and i wrote my own lesson book in like a work book/ text book style that has lesson plans and it goes along qith the studwnts lessons and has evergthjng tabbed out sp they hace it to practice at home. And a few of the simple but spicy sounding penetonjc scale licks i use to teach the scales i call it the slash notes or the slash penetonic scale cause alot of my students love slash as thier influence likehe was mine when i was a kid and it teaches them how to solo and imlrovise alot faster.
ABSOLUTE LEGEND!!
and nice juicy lick at 2:50
Edit:
Another one at 6:17
Edit 2:
Would love the part 2.. about the flat 5ves
This might be one of your best ones yet, on how to sprinkle a little fairy dust into those pentatonics and bringing them to life.
cool lesson, tell me about those pickups :)
Brian May used an Esquire on "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" just superb.
The sharp 3rd is just a chromatic passing tone, so no big deal. But what interests me more is that he is landing on a flat 7th. I don’t know how to explain why that works using my understanding of music theory. If we were in a major scale then I would explain the flat 7th as a “mixolydian flavor”, but we’re in Minor, so...huh. And it’s not pulled from the harmonic minor scale, because that has a raised 7th, not a lowered 7th.
That guitar is a beauty. Oh yea and good video too.
thanks friend you are great, when it comes to Slash things are interesting could you also do Page ?? super congratulations
Yes make a part#2 about slash using the flatted 5th
His elan solo is a great one
Slash is unique , he is a beast .
Hackin' Slash
Woow nice keep it up
can you make a note on the up/down picking? Thanks
Would love to see Sinister Gates
Thanks for the content bro!
Even 3 minutes in made me get down and jam to the riff brah!
another hack I heard from Michael Angelo, if I start on this note and end on this note, it doesn't matter what I play in between because that's my key. Can't use it everywhere but it comes in handy if you just want to let it fly. Also there's a black spot at the end of the video where everything cuts out.
very helpful to me thnx my idol is slash and I'm 14 yrs. old I started playing a year ago but my prob. with my les paul is the G string always get detuned so fast and the strings go rust so fast on the e squared , b , and g
Same like same age and same guitar and same guitar hero
@@nygiants440 lol hahahaa
@Email Email but what do you do rn about it?
@Email Email how do you know bruh where are u from?
Can you do a Greg Koch video? That guy is a monster player.
Slash single handedly made the less Paul desirable again. Probably made more memorable solos than any other guitarist
I like your slash inspired lick, but i think it sounds more good if you try to descend the lick, like high to low cause mostly slash play fast only in descending
more lesson of slash please :P
I'd love to see one about Jhonny Cruz (from Santa Cruz) 🙏 I think he's the modern version (and very underated) of Slash
you should do a part two good lesson
Thank u🇫🇷👍🏼🍒
