I feel like it’s relatively important to mention that the timing of HC and MC (MindCrack) was.. convenient. Hermitcraft was the small server and MindCrack was huge. GenerikB didn’t get bored of vanilla because he continued on MindCrack. He just didn’t want to do two vanilla SMPs at the same time. And chose the more popular one to stick with. Then MC died and he slowly stopped playing minecraft. His views had already gone down quite a bit and at HermitCraft’s peak growth at the time he asked to rejoin.
Its easy to presume many thought he just saw the dollar signs and felt he wasn’t as passionate about the server as much as he was about the attention.
Not saying this was the reason, but the optics aren’t on his side. I was a huge fan of him and even did some small things for him and bdubs back in the day so I really wished he was able to rejoin at the time. But I can understand why not everyone was down with it. His season 8?9? prank really sealed the deal tho of him every returning lol.

Another reason he probably was shunned was due to some.... alleged legally dubious advertiser work he did for a few games and servers during the time he was in Mindcrack. Bdubs was caught up in it too, but whereas Bdubs realized he was in the wrong and fixed the legal issue on his videos (disclosure of sponsorship) Generic refused to. This actually became so much of an issue that Guude's lawyer allegedly advised that it could come back to bite the server if Genny was involved in the business side of it. I don't think he was hard kicked off mindcrack, but he was..... encouraged to leave.
Unfortunatley, Bdubs, Etho, Doc, and Beef were still mindcrack members about this time, and they had all joined hermitcraft by the time Genny asked to come back, I'm sure most of the hermits were uncomfortable about his past actions, and a bunch of the hermits at that time had been ON HERMITCRAFT S1 when Genny abaned them.
This and the whole him pretending to be in season 8 are all reasons he will never likley be accepted back.

    • @CZghost
      @CZghost Před 8 měsíci +45

@@_QWERTY__ Yeah, GenerikB clearly thrown away any chances to ever come back to the server he created by that prank. However he did realize he fucked up with that, as he ended the stream and donated all the money he got from viewers to the charity and publicly apologized. For this reason, I would give him a chance to redeem himself and probably ask him to do a collab video together. GenerikB seems to be pretty funny and pretty good guy, might test his Minecraft knowledge today by playing some of Deathswap I'm actually developing.

So let me put another prospective-
GB for sure started HC with some still going players and others when he was denied Entry into mindcrack. Actually Hypno was the one who coined the name Hermitcraft. But when he was invited onto mindcrack after hc s1 was ending, he disbanded the group completely and left them on their own. This left a sour taste in their mouth. He wasn't the one who chose Xisuma the next owner, it was selected by the left group that X will lead the charge and frankly s2 was the real start of hc when mumbo, cleo and many others joined and it became mainstream. The group grew, many came and went and hc kept going. Mindcrack ended due to Gudde trying to make it a corporation while many members didn't agree with him. Some of them came to join hc after sometime. And during the time, he was also involved in some shady sponsorships and other controversies. During s5, he asked to rejoin the group but was denied on the basis of not fulfilling the group's base of requirements like making Minecraft vids constantly, playing Minecraft survival etc. He was asked to request again if he gets active on yt side again. But from my knowledge didn't contact them for two more seasons. Addressing this he made some reddit posts/comments, in which he and his fans formed the narrative that Xisuma has denied him personally bcz he doesn't wanna lose the server control while it's clear that HC works on an all member agreement system, bcz of this X got many negative comments towards him. During s7, he started a series on twitch with a duplicate pack of iskall's VH and claimed his own, it started yet another controversy between him and hermits. When s8 started, he constantly teased his return on twitter and even on the launch day, did a stream on a fake hc server with bots running the Minecraft chat impersonating hermits. Unknowingly the audience welcomed him with many subs, bits and donos. Later when hermits called him out on it, he stated that he donated the money gained to charity after hige backlash.
All this is from an outsider fan prospective, personally feels very off from these interactions.

Everything you said is right except the part about mindcrack ending because Guude wanted the mindcrack brand to be more of an organization for raising money for charity. Most of the mindcrack members lost interest in playing Minecraft, those who didn't either continued on the mindcrack server or moved to the hermitcraft server, like doc and beef. Most of the mindcrackers switched to streaming on twitch as well.
Mindcrack still is around and they hang out and play games still, but mindcrack is mostly focused on raising money for charity.

Guude has always maintained that Genny and Bdubs’ undisclosed advertising stunt was what led him to turn Mindcrack into a registered business so he would have legal leverage to prevent situations like that. The paperwork that came with that drove Etho among others away from the server and the B-Team were removed from the group. That mass exodus of some of their most popular creators killed Mindcrack.
With that context, it’s easier to see why the hermits would be wary of the guy.
As for Bdubs, he rejoined Hermitcraft in Season 5 as part of the New Hermit Order arc with Etho, Doc, and Beef and it seems like they were a bit of a package deal there. Not to mention he always had his building series and really cleaned up his brand after Mindcrack.

While on mindcrack Generikb and bdubs accepted a sponser for a mafia game to promote, but didnt disclose that they were sponsored on camera. Kinda shitty right? Thats what Guude thought as well so he decided to draft a contract that would hold mindcrackers accountable by having their identity public, and signing to uphold ideals like disclosing sponsors.
Generikb, and bdubs both left after this, as was the intention, but so did other creators like etho who didnt want their name public. All these ppl leaving left the server without its large names, so it would eventually die.
Bdubs apologized for his actions, and was accepted into hermitcraft. Generik did not. Generik was additionally also not allowed in bc he wasent consistently uploading mc.

That "do his own thing" bit reminds me of TinFoil Chef. You wouldn't see TFC much in other Hermits videos, but he was member of the server anyway, doing his own thing down in the branchmines. But I wouldn't describe TFC's content as chaotic, ike GenerikB's content was, so it wasn't about being standalone outsider type of guy, it was more about the nature of his content being quite edgy. That doesn't explain how Grian got in the server tho, because Grian was certainly a new form of content for the server, mainly pranks and chaos. Grian's content is something I would describe as chaotic and a little bit edgy. GenerikB's content is on another level tho.

I remember watching Mindcrack starting somewhere in the middle of season two. Generik was genuinely terrible from the first time I started watching. Calling Bdub's fans 'stalkers' and 'psychos' because they were excited when Bdubs told him about his wife's pregnancy and calling Etho, Pause and Beef's fans 'cringey' or 'weird' (which, at the time, was considered okay but eventually became less okay when it grew more constant). Whenever he played on PlayMindcrack (their old minigame server) he would cheat or say not-very-nice things in chat. I only ever played with him once and it put me off playing for a long time.
He was also one of the only MindCrack boys to tell fans to 'stop crying' when both PlayMindCrack and the actual MindCrack server went down permanently. I also remember, back around 2012/2013, he had a bunch of people ticked off at him because of racist comments and some people saying he'd gone 'the PauseUnPause route', but I'm not sure many people actually believed the second one.

Hey there! Great video overall. However, I do feel it’s important to mention a couple things which might help to paint a clearer picture.
For starters, GenerikB wasn’t accepted to MindCrack initially. In fact, his first attempt was rejected by Guude. Based on what both have said in videos, it seems as though it came off as a little desperate, which led to him being turned out. It was after this decision that Generik decided to start HermitCraft and invite some other Minecraft CZcamsrs that he’d collaborated with in the past.
From what I’ve been able to gather, the first season of HermitCraft was rather chaotic, with a revolving cast of players who joined and left at a rapid pace (a couple of people didn’t even produce a single video on the server). My main theory is that he more set up HC as a resume builder of sorts, with the hopes that it’d prove how what he’d be able to bring to an SMP setting.
As for his departure from HC, I distinctly remember him saying in the video you reference that one of the reasons he was leaving was because of a belief that he wouldn’t be able to keep up with two SMPs simultaneously. He was therefore forced to choose, and back then it was an easy choice. MindCrack was on a seemingly limitless climb with virtually no end in sight, which HermitCraft was more or less on the verge of dying. Based on those facts, I doubt he had to mull it over very much.
As for his involvement afterwards, there isn’t really any substantial evidence to indicate that he remained an active member of the group in any capacity. The closest thing we have is an unconfirmed report of him having invited a streamer by the name of Ven0mKisser to HC at the start of Season 2, but there’s no hard evidence to back this up.
All told, at least from what I can tell, HermitCraft was started by GenerikB as a direct response to his attempt to join MindCrack getting rejected. It was a hastily thrown together project (hence the world corruption issues early on in its life), and no one could’ve possibly predicted where it was going to go back then.
As for how I know all of this, I’m an early fan of HermitCraft and have posted a series of videos on my channel about the history of the server. You can feel free to check them out if you wish, though the quality is admittedly rather shoddy. I’m also happy to answer any questions and discuss any of these points if you’d like.
    Again, great video!

There are more information about why he wasnt allowed back out there. its not just about the PG friendly nature of hermitcraft, I remember when he did a sponsored minecraft series without announcing the videos were sponsored which was against some rules if i remember correctly, while not a huge deal at the time because youtube was still young, some people explained that even after telling him he wasnt respecting youtube rules he didnt change anything and continued the series. its not only about the PG friendly nature of hermitcraft.
Also, you very much skimmed over the ''joke announcement'' he did when said he was joining hermitcraft again. It was an extremely bad taste joke and he put a LOT of effort into deceiving everyone and, it seems, keeping the joke going for as long as possible while receiving tons of donations doing so. He had custom mods that made it seem like other Hermitcraft players we're IN his game with him, going as far as fake chat messages using their names WITHOUT their permission, and also showing them in the tab Players list in game. If I remember right it took at least an hour or two until he finally admitted it wasnt real, despite MANY people in chat confirming that he was NOT in the same game as other Hermits who were also streaming simultaneously and confirming he was not playing with them at all.
the others DID not allow him to use their name in this way and many of them we're not happy at all about this. It was a terrible scam and not a funny joke at all, literally using other famous youtuber's name for HIS profit. Donating the money to charity doesnt excuse this in any way, as if you do some research you can easily learn how donating large amounts of money like this is beneficial for the person donating it. He couldve donated it directly to the people which he abused their name for his profit instead, but of course he didnt.
it is more than obvious he was NOT ok with hermitcrafts decision to not allow him on the server, and he showed it pretty clearly that day.
I used to love generikb and the B-team but he showed his true colors as a scam artist and its fair to say that some of the players who knew him behind the scenes for a long time already knew this about him, and thats why he was not allowed back on hermitcraft.

Those people gave him money thinking it would contribute to us seeing new Hermitcraft videos from GenerikB, not to support some charity.
Donating the money to a charity doesn't change the fact that he received the money under a false pretense that he created, thus it's a scam!

This is different than what I remember happening. From what I recall, once Genny and Bdubs started doing games together they became best friends. That's when/why Genny left HC to join Mindcrack. Because he wanted to play with Bdubs, doc and Etho. Two servers worth of content was too time intensive and he made the choice of what was more fun, so he chose to do Mindcrack. After that it was all "B-Team." Two best friends playing all kinds of games and having fun. When Genny moved to Bulgaria the time difference started to become and issue for them to play together, and when he eventually moved to Phuket it was just impossible for him and Bdubs to do anything meaningful together. Around that same time something happened with his CZcams money and Genny decided to switch to a mainly Twitch/livestream based content model. He said he could get a LOT more money doing that, and it fit his lifestyle better. I doubt there's any animosity between him and the other people from the servers he played on. It's just life stuff.

I don't read lots CZcams comments often, but I will comment this comment based on what I have seen from various Generikb related videos:
      -
I hardly knew anything of what happened prior since I cared so little before, I was also too young at the time to really become too invested anywhere on CZcams.
Yet, here I am seeing a festering wound of people complaining about something that happened in the heat of the moment, potentially out of the sake of opportunity based on conflicting opinions of interest (in the past or present), or for some other reason that hasn't been disclosed.
I get that what happened between you and the other hermits was unfortunate, but that doesn't need to be the "be all or end all" kind of circumstance.
Furthermore, whenever someone makes mistakes, we need to be more transparent about how we address them so that way everyone can move on from them. I would know this too since I'm also a foolhardy person that translated poorly from being too shy and getting put down by people into becoming too hard on myself and others.
I think the intent of JamseyJam's video was to not start controversy or to address the potential "drama", but rather address the backstory of Generikb from a neutral perspective, so I think JamseyJam handled this informative video responsibly.
Although one could argue about the true intent of why JamseyJam posted the video, such as it lacking informative context or not, I don't think that matters as much since there is always other videos you can watch on the subject matter if someone is curious. I'm also almost certain JamseyJam made this video without any malicious intent once so ever.
If anyone has to permanently lose their own sense of self, public image, and/or any chance at redeeming themselves because of someone else's actions or because they think it's okay to constantly nag at them based on how they acted previously, then that is absolutely unjustified behavior. (In fact, I usually see this way too often across the internet)
I was once a victim of this, and anyone can be too.
Also, I am also responsible for that kind of behavior since I ended up acting similarly toward other people's negative behavioral tendencies.
We all need to ideally aim to become better and more responsible people over the course of our lives, and even if that "change" doesn't happen immediately, if people give up on someone because they're a late bloomer (like me), then what results is the same stupid cycle of projected hatred that is amounted from everyone's less than productive animosity and ends to their means.
We mustn't give into these negative tendencies, but rather forgive each other for our mistakes, be transparent about what happened and move on from them.
And just as a sidenote, typing up this comment made me realize something, that I'm still not doing enough to better myself yet. Thanks

I used to watch pretty much everything of GenerikB when he was living in Bulgaria.
GB went through the adapocalypse, which slaughtered YT revenue.
YT also appeared to change their algorithms and based upon another Eastern European YT'er that I follow, I don't believe that YT really promotes Eastern EU feeds into English speaking regions of Western Europe, US, Oz, NZ etc, so Gennie saw a further big drop in views on his videos. These had already dropped due to taking a break from MineCraft videos, but series like Subnautica, Stranded Deep were very entertaining and heavily followed prior to this algorithm change.
Gennie used to play a lot of varied games, but viewer numbers struggled, so he & the missus decided to go a travelling and release content while they did so.
There was South America & the travel agent saga, South Korea, Phuket in Thailand (I also lived there), then on to Indonesia and Bali if I recall correctly. After that, I'm not so sure.
Pretty much after leaving Bulgaria Gennie ditched YT for Twitch, as YT wasn't really making money like it used to, but he still used to upload to YT his VODs. Then he cut his YT uploads aside from an occasional YT update on his journey. Basically YT did a dirty on him.

Rather melodramatic video to say the least. Calling it betrayal, the dramatic music and grandios language when just talking about one of the countless SMPs of that time that just happened to have the other people on it that had the dedication to make it grow. So yeah, I understand why he wasn't let back on. Having a dedicated minecraft channel seems like the absolute minimum of criteria for joining. That server is the livelyhood of a bunch of creators who've dedicated so much time and effort with passion. It takes work. If you don't at least show that you're putting that level of effort in, then yeah. Didn't seem like GenerikB had any drama with this, but despite the video stating as much, it most definately implied drama behind the scenes as if you want to make a big deal out of this. Again, "betrayal" and the overdramatic music and language. My eyes were rolling so much I feared they'd fall to the floor.

Great video, but as someone who was there through all of this, there's a lot you've skipped over or missed
    - That first video was a video response to Etho. Back then you could essentially reply with videos on CZcams. Really cool feature. Docm77's first video was also one to Etho.
    - I think younger people really under estimate how popular MindCrack was. Even though their metrics at the time are nowhere near the top Minecraft e-celebs of today, they had a huge dedicated community. Pretty much every MC CZcamsr back then heard of MindCrack and were fans of their server. It was unavoidable. Everyone wanted to play on a server like MindCrack. High trust friendly SMP was so appealing thats why you see the format continue to this day.
    - Generikb being killed by the anvil happened during the MindCrack 2013 Charity Marathon. That stream was MindCrack at its absolute peak. Generik came on a little drunk and said if someone donated $1,000 he'd blow up his base. Someone did and they blew it up. Someone then donated another $1,000 to restore a server backup so Etho's anvil kill was reversed.
    - He didn't just stop uploading MindCrack - he left with Etho, BDoubleO, thejims and paulsoaresjr in 2015 during the MindCrack business controversy. He remained a 'VIP' (i.e. access to the server) but never went back.
    - Generik actually tried to videos after MindCrack. Even rebooted his LP series. Problem was he just didn't get the views anymore. He tried Twitch streaming for a while but it also didn't pull the views. Also I think some personal family issues came up and that was part of why he stepped back.

A little correction on the story. Bdubs joined Hermitcraft along with Pungence, Skizm, and Juicetra all as a way to play a huge prank on I believe Xisuma and Biffa. I remember it being called "Plan B" and that the b-team was already an established thing, so bdubs wasn't as original to Hermitcraft as say Xisuma, Hypno, and JoeHills were. The funny thing is that after that, Bdubs didn't really put out any Hermitcraft content until after he and GenerikB left Mindcrack (Mindcrack business incorporation/controversy with the pay to win server), so even though Bdubs was a member of Hermitcraft since Season 1, he didn't really participate until Season 5.
GenerikB was one of my favorite creators when I was younger and I watched him in Hermitcraft Season 1. He was the main way I got into watching Minecraft SMP CZcamsrs. That being said, there are one too many controversies for me to fully respect him. Mindcrack was fun and I watched it more than Hermitcraft for a while but Hermitcraft has ultimately had a longer lasting formula and less drama. My favorite Mindcrackers were Bdubs, Etho, Beef, and Zisteau so I was happy to see most of them end up on Hermitcraft and revamp their SMP series.

But I also know at some point I kinda just... stopped watching? I guess I had just not really enjoyed the games he was playing around that time with a few exceptions like his Unturned series.
And since I'd not even heard of Hermitcraft prior to the tail-end of S 5, learning he was the one who made it and that he wasn't allowed back in (regardless of if his motivation for wanting to rejoin) is a bit upsetting.

He sounds like a great content creator and minecrafter, but I can see how he comes off as not very dedicated, reliable, or family-friendly. Seems to readily jump ship if it makes sense at the time, loses interest easily (frequent hopping between modded/other games), and invites controversy a bit too carelessly. He gives the vibe of someone who can be extremely rude/controversial and just tell people to lighten up. Seems like streaming would be the natural place for a person like that anyways, its much more spontaneous, personality-based, and is much easier to switch games entirely.

thank you for uploading this video. it brings back so many memories of watching GenerikB back then. it also reminds me of the difference in the content back then and the content now. back then we seen more videos of what was going on, unlike today were you don't get to see as much as we did back then. we could watch as the builds happened and it was interesting as the creators talked about the build and asked the viewers what they thought. I miss that interaction with the creators. it may have taken a month to do what the creators do in a week today, but there was a lot more interaction back then.

GenerikB was the reason I realized Etho was truly my favorite youtuber. I only watched Etho's vids for a long time, and then he joined up on Mindcrack and I thought GenerikB was kinda funny so I thought you know what, he also plays minecraft. I should watch his stuff, I bet it's as good as Etho's! While entertaining, Generik's content was just soley that. Content. There wasn't nearly enough heart and thought put into it, and it really seemed to me like he was just doing whatever was funny at the moment, and throwing it up on youtub. Etho on the other hand was planning out and searching for new and interesting ways to play the game, trying constantly to innovate in anything he did to keep his experiences fresh and entertaining. All of this was revealed to me quickly, in some episode of Hermitcraft where Generik went into the nether, dug thousands of blocks in random directions, and then put a portal down and just so happened to pop out on the super rare, and brand new biome at the time, the mesa. I knew instantly that he was all show and no substance, it was all an act. He tried to play it off like it was some crazy luck, but I knew the odds of that happening were near zero. I can't remember as vividly the other thing that bothered me, but it had something to do with him spawning in items. I think it was just the sheer amount of redstone he had in his singleplayer world that was essentially evidence to me that he just cheats in his materials.
I'm sure a lot of you watching this vid really liked this youtuber a lot, and I'm not trying to attack you or him! I'm just sharing my opinions and interests, and why I think he fell off compared to other minecrafters. I feel like the people still gaining viewership in minecraft let's plays are truly playing the game. Because that's what people want to do, feel like they get to play along with the youtuber. Once I watched him do these things I immediately felt watching was a waste of time, "he didn't actually achieve anything in the game, he's just goofing around in creative while nobody's looking" is all my brain can see.
This is why I think Tango deserves the popularity he's gotten with Decked Out. It's absurd that someone took 13 months of their life, working non-stop to literally build a fully functional game, inside another game, without cheating. He got help from other minecrafters, paid for materials, and truly built this thing from scratch. This is the thing I think Generik was missing that the other hermits decided against his return. He never felt like that caliber of minecrafter. He was entertaining, a funny guy, and truly a unique character that would make any group more interesting with his presence, but he's just not a Hermit anymore. The hermits I see playing on the server are minecrafters through and through.
Anyways, I hope you all don't take this the wrong way, I just think he wasn't a perfect fit. I believe if he wanted to, he could start again with new friends and make his own genre of minecraft videos completely separate from basic lets play series. It does kind of suck though to not really know who the person behind the videos is. One of the best parts of watching minecraft videos is having a friend who plays the same game you do. You just can't ever really get to know them.

Generikb's Agrarian Skies series was what got me back into Minecraft after my first life-induced hiatus, and I wound up watching every POV from the AOtBT server after that. Hermitcraft was too much additional time to commit to adding to my watch list, so I appreciate the additional info; when generikb left CZcams the details still seemed fairly shrouded, so I'm glad to know more about the situation.

i feel like is 100% what generikb himself says in his post. he has not played nor uploaded anything minecraft related for a long time. if you are going to join hermitcraft. just because of your name is not a good excuse. im quite sure that most of the hermits have not problems with generikb, in fact im quite sure that bdubs would be very happy if he gets his partner in crime back.
is just that generikb needs to be relevant in the minecraft sphere again, then he couldprobably join no problem. i can see he doing a couple series with bdubs, or maybe one alone (an skyblock one, or something on those lines). if he is able to make entertaining content during those series and the response in views is minimally decent he would probably be in easily.

GenerikB got burnt out on Minecraft at the same time his mother in law got told she had a short time left to live. It meant he had to move to Europe so he and his beautiful wife could care for her mom during her last months. He was burnt out as no updates to Minecraft came in years, and he was in a time zone that didnt match his friends on Mindcrack. But this was his job and he needed the income, so he did his best. When his mother in law died he was sad, but now he felt free to travel, move home and stop playing a game he was bored of. And Im glad he did.
He tried going back to Minecraft because his audience missed it so. And in one episode he said he had asked Xisuma if he could rejoin HC, but that they made a deal when he left that this was for all time, so the server wouldnt suffer if he joined and left again. And I think he knew he would never enjoy Minecraft like he used to. I think its a rather drama free story, really. He didnt expect to be let back in and it might have felt good just tobe able to tell his viewers he tried, so they would stop spamming every video.
