Thanks!
Thank you sir! That was very nice of you and very much appreciated.
yep , like the previous post says , step "one" check your hinge pins
If your doors drop when you open them it's because your hinges and pins are sloppy , there is plenty of metal besides the a pillar holding the front quarter panel up , dont go any further until you have addressed the hinges
Once that's corrected then take care of your metal work and proceed with the adjustment process which is fairly well explained here.
Thank you sir, it seems like I always forget one thing when I’m filming. I should probably start making a list up so my old brain retains everything to say lol thank you for being here.
Another great video!
😂 your funny as well!
Heather, how's that pond doing this year? Mine had a noisy toad show up, he's great!
Thank you beautiful, we need you in some videos.
@@TheJorgSacul Doing great! Yes toads can be quite loud lol
Great job on the door alignment. Slade your a great teacher, you’ve missed your calling.
Thank you my friend that was very nice of you. I truly appreciate that. I don’t know everything, but what little I do know I try to show.

I will announce it on the channel the following week, and of course on our group. I hope you’re having a very blessed day.
nice vid Slade
Thanks for helping People's out
your a legend
Thank you Brian, I appreciate the kind comment. I don’t know everything, but I’m trying to help as much as possible.
Sometimes the doors are misaligned due to wear on the hinge pins or hinges themselves, requiring the hinges to be reamed, with oversize pins inserted. I'd love to see a video on hinge pin removal, reaming, and pin replacement.
Thank you sir, it is so hard to remember everything to say when I’m filming. 😁
A friend of mine has some type of hinge pin removal tool. And I guess it presses them back in.
I could probably borrow it, and offered to do somebody’s car for them.
I think that's the problem I am having. I welded a new pillar in and lined everything up. I replaced the bottom hinge, but not the top. Every time I open the door, it sags significantly. I have to pick it up with little effort to get it to close. Could the top hinge be the culprit?
Possibly. It's easy to see. Just open the door slightly, about a foot or so, and lift up and down at the door handle. You will see movement at the upper hinge. If you can't see it, lift the handle with one hand while feeling for movement with the other hand. @@nes7869
Nice information 👍
Thank you my friend, and thank you for always being here I appreciate that.
nice job.
Thank you sir, thank you for always being here.
I need to buy a new left door, because I crooked it back in 2003. When I have it this video will be extremely valuable! 🥰
Thank you for the kind, I hope it goes well for you.
Thanks, man - l'm currently shutting my doors "like a nutjob" ... gonna go through this step by step. Thanks
Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment good luck on your procedure.
Thanks for this I am doing this next week hopefully on my 64 and glad to hear about another Live Chat this week 🎉👏👏
Thank you my friend I got a little behind. I’m going to try to do a live chat Friday night possibly.
Very informative video, never knew how to do that.
Thank you my friend.
Thanks for the video. I need to adjust doors on both of mine.
Mines got a pinky sized gap on the drivers latch side😅 channels are gone and theres a 3/8 gap rotted out between the heater channel and where the b piller meet, door shuts very nice😅
Most of these cars, depending on where they are located. Are a little tired, and need reworked with new metal. Although I do not like bodywork. 😁
Thanks Slade!! I needed this video because my driver's side door sticks out on the bottom.
I haven't heard the word "numbskull" since I was a kid. ha ha
I’m glad that you liked the video and it may be useful to you. Yes, sometimes I’m finding myself using words, probably my father used 50 years ago when talking to me 😂
Thanks for video, one job I need to do on one door, very helpful Slade
Thank you Gordon I hope you’re having a great day.
Now that was a pretty cool video…As always!!!
Thank you sir I truly appreciate that.
Great tips, your doors are spot on.
Thank you my friend!
Looking good man. Your getting it done
Thanks brother I truly appreciate that.
another great video as always thank you great job
Thank you so much, I appreciate you taking out the time to leave a nice comment.
Good details, thanks. Have a beetle that the channel was bent AND the shell seems to have been bent, the alignment of the door is great in the front (A pilar) but at the B pillar it wont align, *door is low... I think the shell got bent. ANy hints or tips?
Great information, thanks so much…
My driver side door doesn’t shut flush. It latches but not flush and I have to give it a good ‘slam’ with pressure on the handle to secure it. I noticed the top pin is not all the way down. I bought the car site unseen and noticed it after I got it… they didn’t tell me there was an issue with the door when I was checking the car out in line.
Any thoughts on why the pin isn’t all the way down and what I might be able to do to fix the issue?
I needed this video!! Thank you!
Is that sunroof factory?
That’s awesome I always hope people can utilize these videos. Yes that is a factory sunroof, I’m going to be putting new cables on it and adjusting it.
Question did you ever paint the vw with the rustoleum gloss almond
Question: my door aligns and closes great. However, once im driving, i can hear the right door rattling a tiny bit. I think it doesnt lock properly…but not sure
I would check the adjustment on the striker plate, it may need pulled in further to hold the door shut tighter. And make sure your door seals don’t need replaced leaving a gap.
Thanks for the info. Question will a bad hinge let the door drop to?.
Yes it will my friend. That was the one thing I forgot to bring up. It seems on every video I forget one thing. This getting older thing kind of sucks.
Good video. Very informative. Will there be a video on the proper use of match book to take the whistle out of the vent windows. 😉 Looking forward to Sunday evening. I've missed a few weeks.
Thanks so much Tad, I hope you’re doing well my friend.
My passenger door on my 68 bug is very difficult to swing open and shut. It does drop down a bit but its very hard to open and close. What could be the cause of this?
First, try to take some PB blaster and lubricate the hinge pins!
What if I need to adjust the gap, left to right, to close the door.
Do you mean the door will not close far enough?
If that’s what you mean, the striker plate would probably need adjusted.
It’s closing far enough on the bottom, but towards the top there’s about a half inch gap. So the door is sitting cockeyed to the left and right, vs inwards and outwards.
@@elizabethdoyon5985 wow, OK do me a favor then.
Send me an email with some photos. Like stand back so I can see the whole door.
So I can get a better image.
And of course open the door and take a picture of the hinges where they’re screwed on.

Hi Slade, The RH door of my ‘68 beetle is not aligned properly at the rear if the door. The doors are from a later model. There is nothing wrong with the hinges, pillars or heater channels. The chrome strip is about 5 mm misaligned. The door should be up adjusted but it seems that there isn’t that much space available above the windowframe. How much can I adjust with the door catcher? And is any there up/down adjustment possible with the forward hinges to give the window frame a little more space?

Once I put new seals on my doors it takes a little more effort to close plus with the windows up even a little more but thats normal right?
Actually with new seals that is completely normal. When you put the new seals on, they say keeping the doors closed for three or four days outside in the sun usually help compress the seal a little bit.
Yes when the windows are up you’re almost airtight.
So it will be even more difficult. They will be OK just give it a little bit a time my friend.
