Don't execute me: I think that Death's painkiller is better than Priest's. Chuck is prefect in everything that he does.
Same!
Kkkkk...don't make me laugh, anyone sing like this, a bunch of guys can do that, what have of special or talent in it. Angra, all about Andre voices, you will search the world for someone who can sing like him and you won't find it. This it'a great thing... "I like more" meaning nothing.
same sweetie
@@hardwors11 anyone can sing like Chuck? Try finding someone who can scream that high. Not only scream, but also did falsetto. Chuck also turned Rob's scream into a hellish demonic shriek, which is perfect for Painkiller and death metal.
Death's version really put emphasis on the aggression, which is all Painkiller is about.
I think best cover all the time
Death fucking killed this cover. Best Painkiller cover version ever.
Check out Death covering God of Thunder
how be better than original song? just call death band XDD
Yea it might be better than the original.... Love priest but chucky boy really took this song to the level it needed to be on.
A lot of people wasting time over analyzing everything from a pseudo intelectual point of view, this is the only kind of analysis needed for this song
Yeah man, rarely would I say covers are superior to the original. But death perfected this song. Judas Priest may have wrote it, but Death made it what it should’ve always been
Chuck Schuldiner (RIP) was a true genius
I love Angra, but in this cover, Death rules!
Anyway, Andre Matos was the best metal vocal in Brazil...
R.I.P André Matos.
R.I.P Chuck Schuldiner.
😥
🤘🤘❤❤
Yep, Chuck and Andre are both legends.
R.I.P. Scott Clendenin
Death’s versionof painkiller already gave a tough competition to priest 😂
18:06 my man struggeling to hold back tears after hearing Death´s superior cover :D
I saw that too
Richard Christy is one of the most underrated drummers in metal, he killed on this album with Death Chuck knew who he was getting.
So good he even had Christy in Controlled Denied
Death Chuck 💀💀💀
he can also make some darn funny prank calls
Death painkiller> Original Painkiller> Angra Painkiller
Chuck's voice is inhuman...
I give it to angera for making a near authentic verson of the OG Painkiller, bou HOOOOO BOY, DEATH's PAINKILLER WAS OVERKILL!
Well, this is all obviously subject to each's opinion, so if I may:
My opinion is, a cover that attempts to sound the same as the original is not a good cover. A good cover (to me) is to play another band's song, but making it into your own version of it. Death's was an amazing cover, but Angra's sounds like a clear attempt to copy the song. It was a good cover, enjoyable and extremely talented musicians, but lightyears from Death's cover IMO.
@@Metallnsanity87 thats wexactly why i like deaths version better
@@MrGrimm-eo5lc yeah, they did their thing for sure
Although I love Angra and his execution of this song is impeccable, Andre's voice, guitars, drums, everything. The version of Death is a masterpiece Chuck's heartbreaking voice is spectacular it transmits too much the sense of Painkiller, in my opinion it is one of the best covers that exist. I Love this Channel !🤟❤️
I like death's version because you recognise it but it doesn't try to copy very cool version.
The Death version is unattainable even for Judas Priest
death will take 9 lived times to reach preist
Absolutely.
Thats what i sayyyyy
what are you smokin, Judas' solos are so much better
Really not friend, Judas Priest is better forever.
Both amazing Bands two of my favorites. I give Death the edge overall. I mean Death version is arguably better than the original Priest version
dude, you have an epic beard
A do Amon Amarth é mais original
El cover de Angra es maravilloso, la voz de Andre Matos (Q.E.P.D.) es una de las mejores voces del heavy/power metal de la historia, pero el cover de Death está a otro nivel.
Para mi, gana Death
Death version its even bether than the original.
in your dreams
I love Angra, but i agree with you. By far one of the best covers ever.
I love Death but No
You're exaggerating
@@nanangadiwNah, he is just stating a fact.
La versión de Death es tan increíble
Death's version sounds like a Leviathan singing this classic in the shower...
incredible!
Death is the best 🤘
My takeaway from this is Angra's is much more faithful to the original and pulled it off really well, but Death's cover really ended up making it their own thing in a way. It was good enough to make the final track on their actual studio album, so :P
When halford heard chucks voices he was sweating bullets
Like you I’m not a death metal fan. I am going with Deaths version of Painkiller
I think Death captured the aggression of the original more effectively.
But scoring it across the board on all instruments. I think Death is the clear winner. Drums is hands down a win for Death. Richard Christy is just a monster player. Bass again goes to Death, Steve DiGorgio is a legend and has been in like a million bands at this point. Guitars is more of a toss up. Throughout most of the song I would say the production was better on death but the playing more accurate for Angra. However I give it to Death because of Chuck's improvised solo near the end (5:08 in the song). But that one could really go either way. But what really cements the win is the absolute insane vocal performance from Chuck. He basically took the banshee like wail of rob halford and turned it into a hellish shriek. That he was able to scream out those extreme high notes exactly the same as Rob is just unreal. At the end of the day these are two great covers from two legendary singers, neither of whom is with us anymore sadly. And the only real loser is us because we don't get any more new music from them.
Check out Spirit Crusher from Death off this same album. This same Death lineup (with addition of a clean singer) also did a progressive power metal project called Control Died, right before the cancer came back and took Chuck. In a very real way the final song on that record serves as a great final statement on life. "The Fragile Art of Existance".
Scott Clendenin did the bass on TSOP, not Steve.
The Project was called
Control Denied
TLDR
Angra if your want to cover as close to the original, Death if you wonder what it could have been 10 years later......
This was very unfair to Angra. It's like comparing a sandwich to a week-stay at the Ritz with all expenses paid.
For real though 😂 The guy tried to set it up for Angra, but didn't know he was doing the absolute opposite 😂😂😂
@@Metallnsanity87 The fact that all about this it's the envy...; there's no style, just capacity. Anyone can sing like Death's...Angra way to sing this song surch all over the world and you won't find...It's is a great done! Cos this ANGRA WINS!!
@@hardwors11 you are so very extremely wrong if you think anyone can sing or play guitar like Chuck, or play drums like Richard Christy. But believe what you want
@@Metallnsanity87 You are extreme believer and certainly not a musician. Chuck is really good, and his band is phenomenal, Death is a super band, with a lot of amazing songs, I'll never take the credit from the artist, great guy, reminds me of Alexi Laiho (Childrem of Bodon...). But in this specific cover, his guitar doesn't surpass Kiko Loureiro-Angra's...In the bends, arpeggios, cleanliness and clarity in the guirarra, picking times etc, etc..., his voice reaches the tones well, but not with the same head voice impact as Andre Matos. You'll find covers similar to Death...I can name a dozen...I think like Angra is very extremely and even more so if you find one. Not to mention that, in the studio, anyone can do it, Angra has live versions of this cover...
@@hardwors11 i would be really interested in at least one or two covers similar to the death version
The three Death tracks that I think would be perfect as a next step are Symbolic from the title album, Spiritual Healing from that title album, and Flesh and the Power it Holds from The Sound of Perseverance. All 3 are a little less abrasive compare to most Death songs, but they're all great gateway songs into the more heavy stuff on Human and Scream Bloody Gore.
Angra's vocal pretty close to original singing style. WOW! But, drums isn't so perfect for me. Judas Priest 👏🤘
Great job from both bands. However, Chuck's vocals fit Painkiller perfectly and launched it to another level.
This is weird, almost no one is talking about Richard Christy's unlimited unmatched drumming power, no only on the technical side (which is jaw dropping amazing) but his way developing the song is down right aggressive and full of adrenaline.
50% of this cover being the best is because there's just no better drummer in the world for this
You can criticize the vocals all you want for the diction or what ever but the result is aggressiveness and adrenaline again, just full of emotion
Guitar, while not surprisingly amazing, fits perfectly and Chuck gets the job done, all the solos fills the cover's mood perfectly, same for the bass
Angra is perfect but in this cover, drums and vocals simply don't match up guitars quality. The whole cover lacks "punch" "aggressiveness" and "adrenaline" and Painkiller is all about that
i actually enjoy the drum intro in death cover more than the original, so much power yet so tight😊
Yes!
Chuck spent so much time on perfecting the song that it's not a fair comparison because I do really enjoy the Angra version but it's not contest which one is better
Nay, it's a battle to the Death ⚔️ -Michael
Angra at Metal Academix again
OMG I don't believe I forgot how awesome those covers are
Sound of perseverance came out in 1998. Their first album came out in 1987
Despite I am Death fan, I like Angra's version more, because they could kept the song unchanged but turned into relaxed a joyful mood. Impressive job
For the record, The Sound of Perseverance released in '98.
death's version is more aggresive and is just what the song needed...but guitar solo from Angra is far better, smooth and accurate.
Guitar KIKO Loureiro (Angra, MegaDeth)
Hell no dude, the solo in the Death version is way, wayyyyy better, wtf do you mean lmao
I cant stand this gollum's vocals of Death
Disagree, Chucks is a master when it comes to soloing
@@JaegerFelipe I cant stand those King Diamond operatic vocals.....and i can agree most Death Metal vocals arent for me but Chuck stands alone with his vocal style.....probably sounding the best, vocally on their 3rd album Spiritual Healing sounded like a demon from hell but not overly growling like say Cannibal Corpse
I will like to see a Battle between Obscura doing the cover of "lack of compression" (Death) vs Insidious Disease doing the same song. Both versions are insane!!!
The world loves Angra more than here in Brazil lmao
I'm loving this channel
Death's Painkiller is the ultimate metal cover
Nice video. I suggest you guys to listen more to Chuck Schuldiner's Death! One of the best and more innovative deathmetal bands ever!
Yes, they should listen to Symbolic by Death. Such a great song. Between the lyrics and the technical prowess of the musicians, it is a trip.
@@garrettmetalman5008the best thing about it is that Death have dozen songs with more technicality and melodies
El mejor cover de painkiller siempre va ser death no hay nadie q lo pueda ser mejor q death
Bien dicho parcero
I love Angra, especially the late, great Andre Matos. They did a fantastic cover! But Chuck's version with Death is just another level. I even prefer it to the original Priest version.
Death, all the way.. Watching this during Death's vocal singer's birthday.. Happy birthday Chuck!!
Cada uno hizo lo suyo pues ambos son muy buenos gracias por este gran video
Death kicks ass way better
the death cover painkiller is featured on the band's final studio album.
Both are great .
But death version is abrasive man and there s something more haunting about it , very in phase , faithfull yet more personnal and extreme.
I like the sound better too, more warm
The most amazing thing in this video... Your tie man ! 🤣
Until today I have not heard any other cover that does not surpass that of chuck schuldiner ... that cover is insurmountable, I would even dare to say that it is better than that of judas priest
Perfect
The Death version came out on their last album in 1998.
Chuck, the front man plays leads and sings. Death rules this. Hands down.
you guys didnt do any more death after this?! damn i felt like you guys really liked them
Death version is insane
Absolutely
Chucks vocals were something to fucking behold. Not to mention his guitar skills
Hi just discovered your channel and it's a brilliant idea to do this. Watched the young man wanting to like Angra and laughed when it came to the breakdown in Deaths version which was brilliant and the hands went over the eyes. You liked it that much you couldn't tell a white lie lol. The lovely lady did like the Angra version judging by her reaction I suspect though because it is very similar to priests. I am not a death metal/thrash metal fan but deaths version is frigging brilliant. In summery Angra version is a great wee cover of the song but Deaths version is a new take on the classic and a fantastic take at that. it's like Mozart doing a cover of Beethoven
You can hear Halford chime in on the final refrain. He's on the Death cover...
There is also a cover from Lovebites now. It's pretty great as well.
I think Deaths recording is superior in a way that makes it impossible to compare.
💕 to angra
I gota be with this guy on this one , no matter how hard you try Angra just doesn’t make the cut . Death takes the lead on this one
DEATH over everything
Well, the best version is... Judas's version hahaha
Jokes apart, both were great, they sound like different sides of Painkiller.
Angra is more melodic than the original
Death is more aggressive than the original
I will go for Angra this time just because of personal taste.
And to the Strong Hipster guy(Sorry idk you guys name's) about you not liking Angra, its okay, everyone has the right to be wrong XD
Good vid btw \o
What about Angra's guitars with Death's vocal? That would be awesome
@@RuskingArms666uh... Why no one has done this with AI??
@22:39 When asked for a softer death. from the same album their is an acoustic track called "voice of the soul" is awesome. actually check that full album out, all good songs but standout is "the flesh and the power it holds" Also this was from Death last album, After this. The band stayed mostly the same but got Ripper Owens on vocals and did an album under the band name Control Denied. Album was called the fragile art of existence, i didn't like it so much but might give it a relistening soon.
Chuck did growls earlier and changed his style later. The song came out with the album Sound of Perseverance, which was made 1997/1998. Released in Aug 98. The song crushes by Death.

Your welcome
Angra é muito foda!!! Mas prefiro a versão do death ❤❤🤘🤘
Shortly, Pankiller is epic.
The fuckin goosebumps I get everytime Chuck hit's that note at 17:47 best version of this song hands down better than the original! \m/
Dos legendarios que ya no están con nosotros en este plano. Chuck y Andre
Music isn’t a contest, it’s about whatever moves you.
My opinions:
Angra’s drummer was off time in a few spots. That’s REALLY distracting to hear as a musician. The mix was unfortunately terrible. But maybe they just didn’t have the budget to get it produced well.
Angra’s vocalist succeeded in sounding VERY much like Rob, and excellent job on the high notes! Very faithful to the original.
Chuck is not as good of a lead player as Kiko, but I enjoyed the fact that he took the solos and changed the key a bit, creating a unique mood.
What was I thinking as I listened to them both? How did they make me feel emotionally?
1. With Angra, I found myself being distracted by the poor mix,
and the occasional tempo errors. I was hanging on every one of the vocalists notes, wondering if he could do what Rob did, and I was excited when he did!
When Kiko started playing, I immediately could tell he was a great guitarist. I also waited to hear how faithfully he would play Glenn’s solos, and it was cool that he DID stay faithful to most of it. Having not heard much of any of Kiko’s playing though, it didn’t seem like he had a recognizable style- just that he was great and intending to play the original solos.
Overall, I enjoyed it, but thought that Judas Priests version was better.
2. With Death, I immediately noticed the superior mix. The drummer stayed on tempo, and played everything just like Scott Travis did.
When Chuck started singing, I also knew immediately that this cover would NOT be an attempt to duplicate the original, but be an INTERPRETATION of it in their own style.
Because of that, I was NOT distracted wondering if he would sing like Rob, or play like Glenn, I just went along for the ride.
Chuck is not a classically trained singer, but hit some awesome high notes/screeches which just packed an emotional punch that I loved.
It WAS over the top, uncontrolled, and aside from the drumming, much less technically perfect than Angra.
Overall, I enjoyed Death more, because they did something unique and had a better mix.
With Angra, I don’t think I’d listen to their version multiple times, because it’s like a “Nearly as Good as Judas Priest Version, But Not Quite.”
I respect both bands, and both versions have great qualities to them.
Check out Angra's Huthering Heights version.
Angra is the best
Saludos desde chile 🇨🇱
I definitely like the angra one better but damn death is a close competitor
I first heard this song by death before the original so death's my fav version.
chucks guitar tone is legendary.
Death did start death metal its in there name
Can i please make another Suggestion, i am the Keldian Guy :-) Please make a reaction to the Band Leverage! They are harder than Keldian, very, but also underrated!!
My Tipps: "Shadow in the rain", "King of the night", "Stormchild", "Hellhorn", "Dont touch the sun", "Rise", "Wolf and the moon", "rider of storm" and "Broken wings", last is the best!!!
Are you kidding? Death are the best extreme band in the world! RIP Chuck
I never listened to Judas Priest. I never listened to Death. I did listen to Angra in the old days. Here is the ranking of each version in my opinion
1) Death version is the best by far!
2) Judas Priest
3) Angra
In fact when the mood strikes and I want to listen to Painkiller, I just play Chuck's masterpiece.
Is Death´s vocalist a globin by any chance?
Chuck is a magnificent Screeching Battle Eagle
Deaths cover came out in 98
Death 's work is a masterpiece
A versão do death parece o Dilera imitando o Axl Rose kkkkkkkk
😂
Naoaoo
Chuck was just too good
Check voice of the soul (Death)
I enjoyed Angra's version the most. Death version is pretty cool, but I guess it exaggerated a bit on being aggressive
You have work..not walk.. literally work up the ladder with it comes to harsher sounds.. from thrash to speed to earlier waves of death and black metal. The pure grit and sound of it may attract newbies but usually cannot take it from the start. some can always find them less appealing than less harsher styles of metal...even after being used to
I am not a fan of Death, and I certainly enjoy Angra a lot. I do think Angra’s version is good, but Death made the song their own so it’s my preferred version here. Although it’s so intense sometimes I’d rather listen to Angra.
I still find the original to be the sweet spot for me though but Death really has a great take on it. No surprises many prefer their version.
DEATH was the 1st & DEATH was the last ,
I don't really like Angra Vocals, I just prefer Death's version lml
Chuck made that song his how Johnny cash did to hurt
Angra version is quite better, guitar and vocals, but the drums i think that death version was more interesting!!
What are you smoking.
Death for me.🤘🏻
there' no life without Death
Death: that woman has a nice voice. It's a nice equivalent of a death metal male singer
lol
Death win.
Angra did a killer solid version of Painkiller hands down! I love the into sweep picking approach to the guitar solo! THAT was masterful! And the singer sounded like Rob Halford from Brazil! Definitely 🤘🤘! However, Death has a special place in my heart so I have to vote DEATH! Grande ente love and respect for Angra!!!!
