    Barbara, Thank you for this solution! I stopped trying to sew knit tops years ago because of this very problem. Your book sounds fascinating (and helpful) and I can't wait to read it!

    Gaping v-neck is exactly when I’m facing tonight! I had the idea of a dart but wasn’t sure on the best execution. Thank you SO much!!!!! And you’re right, I have the most trouble with center front, always!

    Thank you for this! You speak a little more advanced sewing than I am at the moment, but it's great for bringing me up to speed. Your video is highly appreciated, because immediate solutions were quickly taught!

    Thank you for this video!! I needed some options for I made a top with self fabric neckline band and the fabric has no stretch. I did 90% of neckline band and it sewed on great until I was done and it was gaping!! 🤣🤣 But u gave me some great ideas. Thanks again. 😇

    Barbara, nice video, I enjoyed your getting quickly to the problem and offering several fixes. Did I understand that you reserged the solid dark blue tops neckline making the seam allowance deeper "without" removing the band? Wouldn't this make the neckline and the band both proportionately larger? But ending with band length approximately the same percentage of neckline length as it originslly was? So if trying to avoid the problem I would only make band more narrow and not necessarily shorten it also? Hope you understand my question even though I have muddied the water. I am going to watch one more of your videos, and if it is same caliber as this one, I will subscribe and then purchase your book.

    This saved my project! I made the neckband smaller and it looks great. Thanks so much! I always get sad when something goes wrong in my sewing and it makes me want to stop sewing completely, but this time I found this video quickly and it was a really quick fix.

    Excuse my ignorance, but how do you narrow the band?

    Could you do this with a chunkier knitted sweater?

    • @CandTPublishing
      @CandTPublishing  Před rokem

      Hi Maddie! Barbara is a garment sewist referring to finely knit stretch fabric. You wouldn't be able to make darts after the construction of a chunky knitted sweater, but that doesn't mean you couldn't make adjustments to the way the sweater is knit ahead of time. It would really depend on the pattern and the construction of the neckline. I'm personally not a great knitter, so your question is kind of out of my wheelhouse. - Betsy F

    I have a gaping neckline, but it's a self-lined bodice for a knit dress. there isn't a neckband. Any suggestions?

      Hi Carolyn - Barabra has a chapter with necklines that have facings in Chapter 2 of her book. You can also take a look at her class on Creative Spark - Knits for Novices which might help you as well! creativespark.ctpub.com/courses/knits-for-novices-core-garments

    How about a neckline that is made of cotton gauze fabric?

    • @CandTPublishing
      @CandTPublishing  Před rokem

      Even though Barbara is using mostly knit fabric in this video, I find these fixes useful for non-stretch fabric as well. Depending on your fabric, guaze can have a little give, but not quite as much as a stretchy knit. Either way, while non-stretch fabric isn't quite "saggy" the way a knit can drape, these tips can also help your non-stretch neckline lay flat and look a little less "homemade".

    I haven't got a sewing machine.

    • @eulaliaschultz6074
      @eulaliaschultz6074 Před rokem

      If you're just sewing to shorten a neckline that's too big, you can quickly hand sew it. You can still sew in the gaping neckline by hand. It'll just take a little longer than using a sewing machine.

      @@eulaliaschultz6074 You could certainly sew a small dart at center front by hand I think you can sew some or probably wouldn't be watching. But if can't sew by hand, I apologize.
