Why does Auburn University even exist?

- A reader asked why the University of Alabama didn't just expand its' curriculum to prevent Auburn from ever coming into existence. In looking for the answer we may have found the secret origin of the Alabama-Auburn rivalry.

Thank God for Auburn. They accepted me as a grad student with a full time job in Tennessee. They offered me opportunities Tennessee was unwilling or unprepared to offer at the time. Auburn changed my professional life and made me a part of their family. You have to be in it; to understand the pull the family has on you once you become a part of it. Thank you for choosing Auburn which gave me my engineering grad degree! War Eagle!!

It came years later when Congress mandated states either accepted students of color, or create additional institution(s) to address the inequity. 1890 if memory serves.

Auburn is a land grant school, but also a sea grant and space grant university now.

And what happened is that Georgia Tech is no longer part of the biggest and best conference in college football “the Southeastern conference” they are part of the much weaker ACC

Florence was in an area that had a lot of Union sympathy during the war, and was nowhere near the Black Belt agricultural region. The legislature later "compensated" by putting the second land grant at Alabama A&M in the Tennessee Valley.
Because people who actually want a good education or want to go to a good vet school need a place to go to college😊
Why no mention of Alabama A&M? It was founded in 1875 and located in Huntsville. Ironically, it is much less of a science and engineering school than its neighbor, the U. of Alabama Huntsville (UAH), which is part of the UA system.

The University of Alabama has it's own set of important majors so to be VERY honest the two of them make for a good team in the State of Alabama. Lawyers, Doctors, Journalists and Geologists from UA, Engineers, Astronauts, Pilots, Foresters and Farmers from AU. The people of the state need to embrace the opportunities both schools offer and keep the Iron Bowl to one day a year. Not going to happen! LOL WDE!

Florence and the College / University here didn't get a fair shake then, and still doesn't today when you look at how poorly UNA is funded by the state compared to other state schools.

Auburn had the state’s first professor to hold a PhD, Dr. George Petrie. U of A tried to snag him but he refused to leave. Auburn has been the state’s leader in higher education since and will never look back.

Hmmm well if this is why auburn exist we can make auburn less important and take back the state. Just look at Cincinatti and Ohio St look who's more important. We can turn Auburn into Cincinatti if we do these things. 1: we need to kick Auburn out of the SEC 2: we need auburn to suck at sports and thankfully this is happening right now *in terms of football and basketball* 3: cancel the rivalry game. Just look at Ohio St do you see them have a rivalry game with the other teams in Ohio. I don't think so we will do the same thing. With a united Alabama under Crimson and Elephants we can infulence other states and maybe even take over the U.S and the world. *if people outside of USA cared for American Sports.* anyway that's my plan to fix Alabama.
