- The Iron Bowl is viewed by many as the best rivalry in all of college football. It usually has SEC championship game implications and national title implications as well. As we go through some of the best rivalries in college football this season, this video was a video that had to be done. This is the history of the Iron Bowl, this is the History of College Football’s greatest rivalry.

I’ve said it for years, either team could be #1 and the other could be dead last nationally but when the Iron Bowl comes around it’s a coin flip. The Iron Bowl is the final boss of the season for either team, everything after is a bonus.
I don't think people outside of Alabama, truly understand just how deep this is. College football is everything here!!

I mean i live in Alabama and ya the rivalry itself is big but the game itself doesnt seem as big as it should be atleast in my area these days.
I went to Purdue and feel there was more hype for the purdue IU basketball and football games than the iron bowl.

I still think the kick six is a better game. Each team had more to lose. It was way more interesting. The fact that they were both in the top 5 made it one of the greatest games ever.

I think this one wins the argument. It literally took an act of congress to make them play eachother. Also this isnt a different location. This is a rivalry between family members, co workers, and people you see every day on the street.
I have been called at 3 am to remind auburn beat us but I got revenge multiple times also I hear fireworks after every iron bowl
As an Alabama fam, I prefer the LSU rivalry because between those lines are some damn good players and I mean ELITE PLAYERS on both sides. Tough good old fashioned football gets played for all 4 quarters. This past decade most of the time to watch Elite vs Elite on Saturday night, its just fun to watch or agony if Bama loses but you can stil hang your head high.
I bet you do since Alabama always beats them.
When this game was still played at Legion Field in Birmingham, it was the greatest rivalry game for TV. Because of the 50/50 ticket distribution, no matter which team had the upper hand, the stadium stayed at a constant roar. Never a silent moment, from start to finish. I get the case for home and home rather than the neutral site, but that crowd ratio was magical.
I agree that this is the best rivalry, in college football at least. “The Game” isn’t even competitive, Ohio State is 15-3 in their last 18 matchups, and mich cheated the last 2 years anyway, so it might even be 17-1.

The OSU and Michigan rivalry is interesting because there is basically no reason for the two of them to be rivals. Although I am not versed in the lore behind that rivalry, what I have been told is that it basically all started because they were both great programs who played each other one year and all the angst between the two of them has kept the rivalry going ever since.
This is the best college football rivalry hands down and the best in state rivalry with the egg bowl being a VERY distant 2nd like I hate state but I don’t wanna kill their mascot hate lol that Alabama fan poisoning the trees was so sad
I think Bama carries alot of those implications mentioned in the intro. Auburn goes on weird 3-4 year runs where they look scary and sometimes they make noise or actually win a national championship, but Bama is the team that has won 6 natties and 10 conference championship game appearences

I don’t know how you talk about the iron bowl rivalry and leave out Auburns 2010 season with cam newton. The “camback” is one of the greatest iron bowls and you also left out how some guy poisoned auburns toomers corner trees after that game. Maybe the 2017 season where Auburn beat Georgia then Bama to ruin their season. That one’s not as significant but leaving out cam newton at Auburn in an iron bowl video is a cardinal sin

Talk about govt overreach. I know it was just threatened in this case but I dont get where the govt gets off telling schools who they have to play. There's always more important issues to deal with than a football game
It happened almost 80 years ago. Plus the sheer amount of uncooperative anger between the two schools was honestly starting to tickle into things besides sports. Like, it is bad enough with the game to create an outlet for that hatred, imagine how students would take it out without the iron bowl. The game also creates a HUGE amount of income for both schools through ticket sales, concessions, and more. The game is a variable cash cow that is likely single handedly capable of bankrolling both schools. I can't blame the state legislation for threatening to get involved. The schools are ultimately funded, managed, and run by the state. So it is their responsibility to make such choices.
My favorite rivalry is Northwestern vs Wisconsin but that’s because I’m a northwestern fan. The best rivalry imo is osu vs michigan

Roll tide auburn is one of the things I hate most besides the devil but I respect them they have a solid program and they have lost games they should’ve won against us but still auburn fans are the most annoying people in the world

The best Rivalry is either USC-Notre Dame or Michigan-Ohio State. If I remember right Alabama never played at Auburn till the 80s.
Hate to break it to you as a bama fan this is not great rivalry game is not that great usually and has no bearing on titles or SEC west most years. I prefer a rival who actually is relevant to football it is big in state rival but game usually means little in big picture. This yr only if Auburn wins and that is not happening it could derail bama shot at CFP but tat is pretty much done already. Even if we beat UGA in SECCG no way cfp puts us in if their is other 1 loss conference champs even if we are playing better than them, cfp hates Bama and has Bama fatigue. They hate Bama and Georgia owning CFP playoffs since it started. Bama and Georgia have more CFP wins and titles than any others
