Nice that even the beginner planes come brushless now
Very nice. Anxious to see it when you put your own receiver in it. Just got my new tech DCTRUM transmitter and a hand full of receivers for it
today. Looking forward to see how well it works. Apparently it has good range also. Happy Flying
Nice to see a brushless motor, but the handling and durability leave a lot to be desired it seems.
Got some great news for owners of this plane. I positioned the aerial instead of going towards the back of the plane to the front of the plane so it goes under the cockpit. It flies really good now with no glitches. Would be interesting if others have the same success.
Thanks for the tip Adrian
I will do this mod to mine, where is the aerial on the model. Is the Glitch a common problem> I mean is it inevitable or might mine be ok anyway .
@@robertkelly9508 aerial is in the fuselage just pull it out and face it towards front of plane. Worked for me anyway. Before that the plane was uncontrollable, kept crashing.
@@adrianstirn1255 Sorry but we can confirm that that "cure" is BS. The real issue is demonstrated here.

That's some good flying Andrew, that wind was making you put in some work LOL. Nice little cub.
Hard work unfortunately
It is obvious that you are struggling to be nice to this little toy plane in your review, and when Andrew Newton says "it's pretty wiggly" you know that it really is a handful to fly and and we mere mortals will surely crash.
Agree. If it was me doing the review, I would not recommend for the beginner; it's way too jittery.
Almost uncontrollable at times
👍Thanks for your confirmation Andrew.
Beautiful looking model but for its target market it's a lovely orange-yellow lemon! 😢
For those in Oz still considering it as a shelf queen it is still available on the Aus Banggood site for under AU$130.
Andrew, watch this for a bench demo of the real root cause of the "auto crash!" XK A160-J3 Skylark 4CH 650mm EPP RTF RC Airplane from Banggood - Part 4: Serious Control Issue - CZcams
Not a great fan of his videos but he deserves kudos for this 1!
Muito legal mesmo você é bom nas manobras parabéns!!
very nice starter plane to get in the air with stabilization
Pretty little plane, but control issues do put me off
The CG is wrong in the manual and the plane is tail heavy. Balance it like any high wing model at about 1/3rd of the wing cord from the leading edge. The stabilization is busting its capacitors trying to make a tail heavy plane fly. I also have the rudder and elevator in the outer holes of the horns. No tip stalls, no unexpected spins (death spirals). The only real issue is its high wing loading.
Fantastic!
Nice looking plane for a beginner.
I have fancied getting the HKing 2.4m wingspan.
But by the time you add the electric motor, and servos, its a bit expensive for me.
One day.
Thx again for another informative vid!
No worries!
Just built mine today, goes together easy enough.Should be a nice relaxing easy floater, great for local park.
What is this glitch I hear about, I ain't putting mine in the air until i'm sure it is all ok.
Rob
Great looking plane. Like you, I also think the receiver in these small XK models have very short range. I had a similar experience with an XK-A600 (Beaver). When its very near it flies great, but even at a slight distance, it flies away or do something erratic. I am also in the process of installing another small receiver and a controller in the XK-A600. I would like to see how you mod and remaiden this cub.
I doubt very much that it is a control range issue. It's been discussed on the RC Forums and it seems that the control glitches on the A600 (and no doubt on this ) are more likely due to some fault in the FC programming. On the EPS A600 every glitch ends in a styrofoam confetti crash. With this EPP frame you at least get a couple of goes at the "Oh Sh#@" moments, but the higher wing loading ain't going to help. The nice looking scale plastic bits don't like the extra weight behind the nose-ins either as shown here. Also the 3-leg plastic screw on motor to prop adapter is surprisingly easy to deform. Andrew's "prop buzzing" here may well be due to that. All in all those of us "beginners" expecting a brushless step up from the brilliant little Volantex brushed V761 planes have been sadly badly burnt!
Thanks for the interesting video. You just make quality always, but i would have some question this time.
Was the COG correct with the stock lipo, or did you need some modification to level it out?
I did have to reinstall the wing struts, because they was originally glued on wrong place.
The receiver antenna was bent around the push rod on my plane.
Is there a possibility to reset the gyro maybe, as like on the A600?
Hard to tell because the stabiliser is all over the place. I'm refitting mine with normal RC gear
THE PROBLEM IS ACTUALLY with the Gyro/Stabilization system intermittently giving full left rudder lock and if not high enough to recover will take you DOWN! I've actually tested it on the bench and was able to make it happen!
Did you ever fix this issue? any chance of a video?
👌👍
Supper rc plane bro....💓💓💓💓💓
could you do a tutorial on making and 1.3g/5.8g repeater ground station for long range fpv?
It hardly needs a video TBH...Just take the video signal out from the 1.3g video Rx and feed it into the low power 5.8g VTX....That's it.
EnglishTurbines ahh i didnt know it was that simply lol
@@christianmullins435 Been using one for years...Works really well.
i really like the micros. thislooks cool and that cockpit is sexy. lol , i wish this came as a bnf or arf tho
ps thanks for showing the jumper binding
That is a nice looking plane. That is some strange behavior with the gyro. It just seems to lock into a steep turn. See you in the Air!
Yes it wasn't smooth and predictable
Scale wise, way better then a E-Flite Sport Cub S, price is certainly comparable so, how will it fly in comparison?
Personally I would buy it as a scale hanger queen
It is a great looker
Necesito saber las funciones del mando
Hmmmm too small for me, too hard to see at any distance ,,,, great vid,,,
Durability A.. Other than the landing gear. Sure is cute tho.
Is it has brush motor or bldc motor.
Whats a really good puller plane? I fly quads and have only flown pushers, about 10 wings, a bixler and skysurfer. I fancy flying something with a front mounted motor for cruising and fpv..? Cheers
HK Navy cub, Phoenix Ascent (with mods tp get access inside), Albabird twin
@@AndrewNewton Thank you..
Neat little airplane Andrew, you are experiencing the same problems as myself flying these 'auto stabilised' models,I find you only feel half in control and artificial flight is not for those who have done a lot of flying ok for a newbie perhaps who just wants to get a model into the sky, once more someone who has only experienced them will struggle to learn to fly non stabilised machines, they are what they are but not for established model flyers, take that receiver out and just see the difference with proper non interfered flight.
The undercarriage is something the manufacturers need to sort out, plastic undercarriages are cheap and break just at that cross brace position on yours that broke too,it needs piano wire and elastic bands to give a bit,you will never get a decent landing on long grass with the micro models which only adds to the problem of the weak undercarriages, other than that if it gets someone into the air towards better models then its job has been done, and if someone does not take to flying then you have not lost much in terms of outlay.
Anyway its a nice video and a neat little Cub for back yard flying.
Yes I agree. Might get you flying but I really dont like the toy grade stabilisers.
@@AndrewNewton I like your channel because you always have the courtesy to add a reply, thank you for that, your flying field looks like it has suffered a lot of rain ?.
Hi sir i have a doubt do these planes spyral out of control on stabilized mode or only in aerobatics mode can i have fun whithout accidents with it stock ?
This video will show czcams.com/video/wiFARGgVZKI/video.html
Looking forward to t18 antenna mod! My parts are ready to go, interested in. Range test before I make the change :-)

Fuck mate this is why us Blind Old Men fly Big Planes!!!!!!!!!!
The prop is a little bit buzzy.
Ya could be, you crashed in on the nose a few times
Hello, you didn’t check the cg at all, that’s the issue on all this plane’s. But thank for your video’s 👍🏻
I love the detail of this cub , but I don’t think it flies as stable as the champ . I’ve seen a lot of videos on this cub , but flies way to fast for me , I care for a more gentle plane . Just saying !
Dang is it already cold down there?
spring at moment for NZ/Aus
Warming up, but still the odd cool one.
Every video I see about this cute plane pilots crash :( - so won't buy it, stay with my UMX ... Nice vid as always!
Not the best XK model as it comes. The stabiliser programming is not right
@@AndrewNewton But it is really pretty - the first IMO that is on par with many Eflite UMX micros, and it has 2s BL, a big plus.
Still considering to buy it, since it is actually available in BG EU-warehouses. But if, I would probably use an UMX flightcontroller and not use the RTF electronics.
Wonder, if the "stall problem" is also evident with an UMX board or a board without control.
Would love to see a version without radio/rx, not because of the 10 bucks less price, but mainly because I do not know what to do with all this RTR and RTF radios and receiver/ESC units I do not use.
Fms moa next?
You saw it on the ground. I did fly it but I'd like to show it off on a better thermal day and using a vario
Why would they even include a 3D Mode on a Piper Cub?...All it needs is normal Giro stabilised Mode plus Self Level...Nothing else needed. Giro Stab mode allows full unrestricted aerobatics.
On these aircraft the 6G mode does not allow unrestricted aerobatics. I have the A800 which is easily capable of inverted flight, loops, stall turns etc but it's impossible to do these on 6G mode. Only 3D mode.
@@torinboyd865 They have the wrong firmware in their Giro then...It's that simple.
NO RTF is ever ready to fly.
They all need tweaking, just like built up planes. Gotta learn the hobby.
Wise words
Is it me, or our you losing pounds?
I am, thanks for noticing. Nothing radical, just better eating and more walking
What a waste of money it’s a RTF ,why should you have to change Radio to fly a bit better what a joke 👎👎👎👎👎👎
Biggest little piece of crap I ever owned.
Yes, not their best design
