In this video, i construct a replica of the iron mask from the 1977 movie The Man in The Iron mask.
It is made from flat barstock and sheet steel and features a "rough from the forge" aesthetic.

The tighter fitting mask would be hellish at first, but I think a person would get used to it, like a balaclava, but having this loose fitting thing rattling around locked on your head would drive a person more insane. The looseness giving half a sense it could be removed, the constant knocking about if you moved, treating your skull like a bell clapper… this may be the more fiendish version.
