  • On July 10, 2019, one of the NHL's veterans, Matt Cullen, announced his decision to retire. Cullen finished his career--all 1,516 games of it--with 266 goals, 465 assists, 731 points, and many lifetimes' worth of memories. This is the video that was used to announce his retirement.
"More than anything, I'm just so appreciative of everybody that helped me along the way. Looking back on it there are people that came into my life at the right time to lead me one way or teach me something."

Matt Cullen. My brother went to a Tampa-Penguins game with his kids and when you saw him with his kids you threw him a puck during warmups. You're a class act and clearly a family man. Thank you for your time in Pittsburgh. You'll be a folk hero here for the rest of time and we owe you a huge thanks.

I just realized his last goal was against Carolina which is pretty perfect in a way. Hopefully Cully is coming out of retirement to have his last time rejoining the Penguins
