- A public works project that became obsolete and was converted to a dining establishment... It's all about repurposing old items on a grand scale.

Made for a bit of a blast from the past !
Exactly!
Excellent vintage Quig!!
LOL
Fun to see an on location like this. Cheers!
We had fun being there...
Oh, very nice... :) My town has an old Victorian Water Tower, that is out of use.. various owners have wanted to turn it into flats, a restaurant, offices.. but nothing has passed the scrutiny of the council, so it is still empty. Goodness knows if they can ever do something with it.. :) That food looks delish, even your salad.. ;) Nice to see Cindy as well.. an 'old fashioned' foodquig video indeed. Took me back a few years, thank you.. 🥗🥪
You're welcome...
That looks like a fun restaurant. I got some of those Whisky glasses years ago when I was just starting out. Don't use them much but they are a nice alternative to a rocks glass if you want an ice cube but still have tapered sides to hold the aromas. Cheers
The weird glass worked out well enough, it's just that I have never seen the likes of it before. Slainte!
Nice throw back. I had to go to Montreal for work a few months ago. The first two dinners we had we're smoked meat from Schwartz's and then from Reubens. Not sure if I'll be able to order one again they set the bar very high
Nothing comes close to my memories of Montrreal food...
Atta boy
There is a new inexpensive blended scotch whisky available in liquor stores that you may want to give a try. It's called "Dewar's Portuguese Smooth", it is 8 years old and is finished in Port Casks. I find that it has more character than and is a cut above the standard Dewar's White Label blended scotch. It is $34.95 out the door at the LCBO so it wont break the bank should you not like it.
It's interesting you should mention that... I was just at the liquor store, and walked right by the whisky you mention while picking up some Wiser's Deluxe and Alberta Premium to replace the bottles that the girls drank dry.
Ah CZcams deleted my comment, how good. Anywho the glass is much like a stemless wine glass with an odd shape, but it still seems to be good for funneling the aromas. Always enjoyed this format of restaurant reviews.
It was like stepping back in time... We both enjoyed it a lot.
just what I was waiting for, a foodie blast from the past! but we didn't find out the bill! 😕
I knew I was forgetting something... It was around $80-85 and worked out to $100 including the tip.
@@foodquig not bad!
I think it's the fat content that gives smoked meat its melt in your mouth quality. If you go to one of Montreal's famous smoked meat restaurants (Schwartz, Dunn's, The Main, etc.) you'll find that the brisket they use has a fair amount of fat running through it. In contrast, the smoked meat you buy at a grocery store deli counter tends to be very lean because people are health conscious about fat. That smoked meat tends to be much more rubbery in texture. I don't eat smoked meat sandwiches every day so when I do get one I want it to be the real McCoy.
You echo my sentiments exactly, but to be fair you're not going to get a juicy steamed brisket on rye in Lethbridge. I mean, they probably used a deli slicer on it rather than the traditional old guy in Montreal with a big fork and a sharp knife.
Andy can you unblock me on my RubberWilbur channel? I think you blocked me a few years ago when you were doing a livestream and one of your mods told you to block me. Also are you and Cindy back together?
No channels are currently blocked from foodquig. Cindy and I are not together, but I visited her on my vacation.
