  • Electric bike update review after riding it for 1,500 miles. Accessories I have purchased and wha needed to be replaced.
    When I first started shopping around for an electric bike I was immediately turned off by the price -- with some costing thousands of dollars. So, I kept an eye out for an e-bike that would meet all of my needs on a budget of under $1000. I eventually found that bike: the Ecotric fat tire folding bike. And at a $780 price tag, it was significantly under budget.
    I always thought a nice bike would be a great way to run errands or explore surrounding areas after the RV is set up. But I knew I would be limited to how far I could go and how long I could ride. This is really where the e-bike appealed to me, I knew that with an electric-assist bike I would be able to ride out faster and farther than I ever could on a standard bike.
    The simple one-push button to toggle from low, medium, and high power made it easy to always have the proper amount of power for any riding situation. And a twist of throttle located on the right side of the handlebar makes it a breeze to kick in a quick burst of power when needed to pass, climb a hill, or when we just want to zip around.
    We were a little hesitant as to if we would like the fat tires. But since riding the bike, we would probably never go back to a standard tire size. We love the stability of them and their ability to roll over any terrain while keeping the nice and smooth ride.
    The bike has held up very well, other than breaking one pedal I have not needed to replace anything on the bike.

      I just listened to the podcast for this first aid kit, it should be shared at any RV, outdoor and camping forums. I love how they've thought of so many details to keep folks safe. I'm adding the kits to my Christmas shopping list for my kids who all are hikers, campers, explorers.
      Also - you made me laugh out loud at your despicable me first aid kit! At least you have one, not many do, but that was funny.

      Lol, I think Sabrina picked up the despicable me kit. I would have gone for the Avengers 🤣 and yes we agree these kits are well thought out for people who like the outdoors and would be a great fit for all of the companies you just mentioned. They are still a relatively young company and I look forward to seeing them expand into the market.

    Your 1st video was a deciding factor in me buying an Ecotric Folding Fat Tire 2 months ago. After 2 months and 250 miles off the beaten path around Napa Valley, I couldn’t agree with you more. This great bike takes me places I have never gone before on a bike. And more importantly, it makes me feel very young. I’m an active 73 yr old who was beginning to doubt my bike balance. This bike is really a dream to ride. I cruise sitting very upright and comfortable. Thank you for your videos. You helped me make the right choice.

I'm afraid if someone buys something based on my recommendation and they don't love it as much as I do they will blame me for it lol. I was looking at these types of bike and saw some 1800-2500 dollar price tags and was scared away but, seeing these bike can be bought for less than a 1K I am reconsidering, only problem is now I want one too. We wouldn't be using it at all in the winter months up in northern Illinois but sure would like it at the trails of the campgrounds we go too. This brand seems to be a good value. • @melvynburchell
    @melvynburchell Před 3 lety +2

    Many thanks for a great follow up review after significant miles... Here in the UK we have limits of 250w/15.5mph (without pedal assist) limits to be legal on the roads... I am not sure that is strictly enforced as I currently see plenty of escooters (all illegal here) zipping around everyday... So I figure unless you are being real silly drawing attention to yourself 500w - 1000w is ok... I would go for 250w if everywhere was flat but I am none too young anymore and hills are a chore - so rather than getting off and walking I am looking at minimizing the effort to get up the hills pedal assist rather than speeding up them on "throttle"...
    Being of "engineer type" I know Lithium batteries fairly well - so one question that came to mind is "Have you noticed any battery degradation effects (reduced power/range etc) over those 1500 miles?

    • @MovingForwardAdventures
      @MovingForwardAdventures  Před 3 lety +2

      I agree with you, I think it would be very difficult for them tell what size motor you have and to enforce it, especially if you are not flaunting it. The E-bike is great for hills, I often tell people the electric assist makes everywhere feel like flat road which I like a lot. I have not noticed any range depreciation, but I do not run the battery flat out, I always leave at least one bar of power. I wish I payed more attention to it to give you a better answer. If there is a depreciation (which I am sure there must be) it is not significant enough for me to notice over time.

      Hi Helen I paid just under $800 for it. I bought it directly from the company’s website Ecotric Bike, this is their folding 20" fat tire bike. I guess the only advantage of the small diameter wheels is for storing when it's folded, the downside is that it is not easy to pedal without the electric assist turned on. It's possible and I do it occasionally, but its certainly easier with the power turned on. Hi Kenny, I got an ecotrike fat tire folding e-bike two weeks ago and I'm looking for tips on loading/unloading into a Honda Fit hatchback. I have no trouble folding it. The tires separate as I'm lifting it and I find that I'm struggling to get it into the back of the car. I have a tarp that drapes over the lip to prevent damage and then to easily pull it into the cargo area. Some friends suggested a bungee cord to hold the tires together. Do you have an suggestions or tips for me? I absolutely love the bike - I'm a fit/active 67 yo female. I was even thinking about a ramp to wheel it up but suspect I'd have the same problem with the wheels separating and moving around. Would love to hear from you and others with ideas. Thanks! Loved your video.

    • @MovingForwardAdventures
      @MovingForwardAdventures  Před 3 lety

      Hi Jamie, I agree I think the ramp will still cause the same problem. I typically just squeeze the bike together as I am lifting it into the back of our car, but A bungie sounds like the best idea to me to help keep the two tires together. It would have been nice if the bike had some type of clasp to hold them together. Maybe I should write Ecotric a review and suggest that. I also remove the battery when putting the bike in the back of our RV, it doesn't sound like much, but it does help make the bike a bit lighter when lifting. Sabrina put her bike in the back of our C-max once and said that was enough for her lol. It is awkward to lift and I like your tarp idea to pull it into the car once it is lifted up into the back of the car. I will give this some more thought and see if I can come up with anything else that might be more helpful.

    • @jamiejordan5451
      @jamiejordan5451 Před 3 lety

      @@MovingForwardAdventures Hi, thanks for your reply. I do remove the battery before folding but it's still very ungainly and difficult to lift easily, as Sabrina confirms. The Fit has "magic seats" that allows the 2nd row of seats to fold up and you can load cargo through the side door and and lower lift with lower floor - however I tried that too and the tires wobbling around were even worse in the narrower space. A clasp type mechanism seems like a better idea - I worry that a bungee will do damage to the wheels. In spite of this issue, the bike is great! Thanks!

    How you get it to last 40 miles on full charge when on ecotric website it says it go to 20 miles on full charge

    • @MovingForwardAdventures
      @MovingForwardAdventures  Před 2 lety

      I believe theu are just taking an avg of the three modes or rating it at it's highest setting. I rarely take mine out of low, so the motor is barely doing anything while I pedal, it's literally just helping me up hills and to get started. If I put the bike on high I don't think my peddling does anything and it's mostly the motor pushing me along

    This is a great review but sooner or later your going to need to replace the battery, How are you going to replace the battery ? And if so. Would you buy at least 2 spares in the event the company goes out of business ? Is it a universal battery ?

    • @MovingForwardAdventures
      @MovingForwardAdventures  Před 2 lety +1

      It is a universal battery, I have seen it on other bikes, mobility lifts and scooters. I have a couple thousand miles on my bike now and the battery is still going strong. I didn't buy and spares, it seems like it will be easy enough to replace when needed.

    Would this bike fit a person 6'1" taller and would it be good to use for food delivery service (Door dash/Uber Eats?

    • @MovingForwardAdventures
      @MovingForwardAdventures  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi Nicholas, I think the company lists the bike as being good for people being 6ft, but I know people have written me to say they are over 6ft and do just fine. If I was looking for a bike for door dash I would look into their full size bikes only because you could get one with a street tire instead of the wide offroad tire this comes with. I still use this bike weekly and it did turn out to be a great buy. Check out ecotric website. They have a lot of bike choices out now.

    Hi, if I ever run out of battery. Is it possible to pedal without any problem without electric assistance ?

    • @MovingForwardAdventures
      @MovingForwardAdventures  Před 2 lety

      Hi Sebby, yes you can pedal without power. I do it all the time around campgrounds, because I feel like with the power on it is too fast for the amount of kids running around and people walking with pets.

      @@MovingForwardAdventures Thank you for this quick response. I'm asking this because I imagined that with the weight of the bike and the size of the wheels, it would be difficult to pedal without assistance. You confirm to me that no. Thanks & Salutations from France. 🖐️

    Can you raise the handlebars?

      Yes the handle bars can be raised and lowered, but I would say most likely they are as high as they go in this video. I often wish they went a little higher

      Hi, I am sure there has been battery loss, but it hasn't been enough to notice yet in the range or performance

  • @MrTkhu

    How come you don't mention about the battery life after 1500 miles? Is battery life still good or has it depreciate?

    • @MovingForwardAdventures
      @MovingForwardAdventures  Před 2 lety

      Still good no difference that I can tell now with over 2000 miles. I'm sure there has been a depreciation, but not enough for me to measure in loss if miles or power.
