    If you depress the Schrader valve on the tank and water comes out you know your bladder has failed.

    Before doing this you want to press the Schrader valve if water comes out bota boom bada bang there's your issue. The second thing is a little tap test. There should be a thud at the bottom where the water is and a nice hallow sound when you hit the top. That should be 95% of your diagnostics.

    Thank you for doing this video short. I now know for sure my expansion tank is bad. Other videos said sound but a pressurized tank is different.

    I was able to tell mine was bad when the bottom gave out and flooded my basement with the full force of the well pump. What really sucked it it was probably like that for about a week before I noticed. Thank god for the sump system. Kept the water lever from going over 4 inches.

      Oh no! That’s awful! You may want to check out our other videos and, specifically, the video that talks about how to keep your house from flooding when you have an alternative water supply like a well or a cistern. We have a product called a WaterPro Well Stop that will shut off your pump immediately if water is detected on the floor, on our website www.rainbrothers.com . I’m so sorry to hear that happened to you!

    Or just tap it with a wrench, it won’t have the hollow sound if it’s got a bad bladder.

    Great video mines smell like rotting eggs

    • @rainbrothers

      I would recommend shock chlorinating your system if that is the case. Rotting egg smell usually (but not always) indicates bacteria in the water supply

    Thank you! Now I know what's wrong with it.
    How do you fix this?

      @rainbrothers  Před 7 měsíci +1

      The only option for a bad pressure tank is to replace it - they cannot be repaired. Here is the best place to get pressure tanks: www.rainbrothers.com/store/Pressure-Tanks-&-Accessories-c143938306

    Tap it. if it rings like a bell, you're good. If it thus, it's got water in it.

    What to do if your water tank by the pump is bad?

    • @rainbrothers
      @rainbrothers  Před 20 dny

      If you’re pressure tank is bad and it’s in a position that makes it hard to replace (for instance, if it is being used to support your jet pump), then you can simply add a new pressure tank next to your old pressure tank. It doesn’t hurt anything to leave your old pressure tank in place as long as you add a new, good pressure tank

    Will it make your water taste nasty and have brown sediment in it If it goes bad

    • @rainbrothers
      @rainbrothers  Před 6 měsíci +1

      A bad taste wouldn’t likely be caused by a bad pressure tank, but sludge from your water will accumulate over time and can get trapped in the pressure tank if the tank becomes water-logged, so it might seem like the pressure tank is causing the issue when in fact it’s just housing sediment that was already in your water.

    Great info.
    How many years, on average, do well pressure tank's last?
    What does the clicking mean?
    Thank you!

    • @rainbrothers
      @rainbrothers  Před 4 dny +1

      Good pressure tanks have a warranty of 5-7 years, with most lasting 15-20
      years. The clicking sound is most likely your pressure switch - a gray or black box on the front of the pressure tank that turns your pump on and off

    Who has brains enough to put in a drain valve for your pressure tank ?

    if your tank is waterlocked, is there any way to fix it other than to replace it.

  • @denanderson1866
    @denanderson1866 Před 3 měsíci

    What if you go to drain the tank and the water won't come out unless you let the air out and while your letting the air out the water comes out

    • @rainbrothers
      @rainbrothers  Před 3 měsíci +1

      If your plumbing is pressurized, even on a bad pressure tank, you would still be able to drain water out. It sounds like you drained out all your water pressure and then opened the valve on your pressure tank and nothing came out until you released air? Is that correct? To get all the water out of a pressure tank, you have to also open another valve or else it the plumbing will hold water in from atmospheric pressure… it takes two open valves to drain a water line. Water is confusing stuff sometimes

    Do water tanks go bad frequently?

    • @rainbrothers
      @rainbrothers  Před 28 dny

      Not at all. Most pressure tanks carry a 5-7 year warranty, and most last 10-20 years before needing replaced
