The 2011 WS was heartbreaking for the Rangers man. They were like a strike away from winning it TWICE in game 6, and this was after losing it to the Giants the year before. Hopefully they can seal the deal this year, they're the only Dallas professional sports team without at championship.
Im a rangers fan and hate looking back on this everytime. With this being said I still recommend these lads watch the 2011 World Series game 6 with David freeze just so they can understand what this means to us rangers fans.
Yep, they had a 2-run lead twice in the bottom of the 9th and also in extra innings against the Cardinals. Devastating loss. I think they've got it this year, though. If they play the Dbacks, Rangers win in 5. If they play the Phillies, then Rangers in 6.

I can relate. I turned 50 years old in September, and I am in northeast Ohio. I'm still waiting for the Indians to win their first World Series since 1948.

Your son is correct. The Rangers have homefield based on record. The Rangers were 90-72, the Phillies 90-72, and the Dbacks 84-78. So the reason Rangers have homefield over the the Dbacks is better record. Since the Rangers and Phillies ended the season with the same record, then the Rangers have homefield over the Phillies by virtue of H2H tiebreaker rule. The Phillies and Rangers played each other in a 3-game series at the start of the season and the Rangers swept the Phillies in that series 3-0, so Rangers get the homefield in the WS if they play the Phillies as well.

Yep. It has varied in the past. At one point home field advantage rotated between the leagues and briefly, the winner of the all-star game determined which league held home field. I think the current system makes more sense.

The Rangers and the Astros finished the regular season with the same record. The Rangers were in 1st place all season until the very end, and always had a much better point differential over the rest of their division. For most of the season, they had the 2nd best point differential in the AL, and the 3rd or 4th best overall, so I knew they were the better team. Of course after losing all 3 home games, I wasn't sure they would win the series. I figured Houston would win at least 1 home game. I never thought I would see another playoff series where the road team wins all 7 games like the 2019 WS. I'm a Braves fan, but I'm rooting for the Rangers in the WS. I don't want the Phillies to win it. Too bad the divisional series is still a best-of-5 instead of a best-of-7. The Braves might have been able to turn things around.

If the Phillies miraculously pull this one out tonight, the Rangers v Phillies both opened the season playing each other (which is very rare to have an AL & NL teams play on opening day) & will end the season playing each other.

I don’t think that’s ever happened because it’s fairly new for inter-league (AL v NL) throughout the season. MLB used to have all the teams play in inter-league games around the same time (usually in June.) This season, MLB has all teams play each other throughout the season & at least one series against the other league team. So all teams will face each other.

Aidan, don’t say unfortunately because the Rangers won. Take it from me. You don’t really want to be a fan of the Astros who are the most loathed team in MLB. It would be comparable to being a fan of Chelsea in the premiere league.
The Best record for the American League was The Orioles and Texas took care of them Rays and Astros were basically the best teams in that League Atlanta Braves got eliminated they had the best record in the National League but if the Phillies make it back in the World Series the Rangers get home field advantage regardless because the swept them in the first series of the regular season.

Rangers do get the homefield advantage. It is based on regular season record. After that there are tie breakers like head to head record. Rangers swept the Phillies to open the season and have a better record than Arizona. So they have homefield against both.
