    If the beetles are inside your home in the hardwood floors do you stripe the poly off the wood in that area and then treat it and if some frass comes back can you wipe off the frass before you restain and poly?

    Hi, i got some dinning room chairs off facebook. They were painted weird and had splashes of color on them. I painted them black then I noticed ALOT of small holes ALL around them. I thought it was just a weird wood textture thing. I googled it and found info about wood worms so I immediately called an exterminator. He looked at them and took pictures and said he didnt think they were active but was going to consult some other people. I'm still waiting to hear and have been keeping the chairs in the garage. I have seen NO powder on any of the chairs. Could that be because I painted and poly'd them? I am obviously concerned about my house but also for the lady I got the chairs from. It was a really nice place and she said they were her mother in laws and they had been kept in their attic. Thanks so much for your informative video.

      If you observe them for a few months and have no dust then they are probably inactive

    I have a Tn. mountain home. Due to issues we have only been getting to the house 2-3 times a year from Fl. the last few years. We thought we had a powder post beetle problem but it's actually carpenter ants, that's bad enough. Problem I'm concerned about is we put red oak floors down in 2009. We bought it at a discount because they called it wormy wood, we thought it looked rustic. I have never seen the flour type frass but we have holes all in the wood , some small and some that clearly were not there when the floor was put down. My husband is in denial, the floor is fine. The exterminator says any floor damage is old and he's not concerned at all about it. Might there have been a beetle problem in the past or is this really "wormy wood" and don't worry about something coming to life there?

    I think I found a powder post beetle. I found a tiny hole in my wood floor and noticed the larvae trying to come out. My floor already has a stain. Is there an alternative to treating this insect.

    Hi,I see very fine yellow powder on my garage wall. But I don’t see any hole nearby. Unless it’s coming from near the garage roof I don’t see any hole near by. Also the wood was broken where I found the powder. It is possible that infestation is gone since I just saw it only at one place.

    I have a double carport enclosed with rough cut lumber from my land, these are a problem now after 20 years.. there’s a fly type insect that is attracted to the beetle holes and there’s hundreds of them.. I put fly strips up and they’re covered in a hour.. I painted my building and porch with an oil and kerosene mixture and it did nothing.. I’m at loss and need to get these gone.. have you heard of these fly/bees? They look like sweat bees, really small

    I just bought a house and pest control told me I’m infested with these in the crawlspace. They quoted me $17,000 to tent my house said it is the only way to do it.
    I had a WDO inspection came up clean before I purchased the house.
    I do see the evidence of the powder post beetles but I don’t think it is as bad as the pesticide company is saying - yet.
    This video is so helpful.
    Do you have an idea of how much Tim bor I would need for Approximately 800 ft.² rafters in the crawlspace? Would one 25 pound bucket do it?
    I don’t see you using a gas mask. The pest control company told me not to try to do any of this myself because it was lethal…

    • @GreenAkersPC
      @GreenAkersPC  Před rokem +4

      if you are in a crawl space I would use a respirator since it is so enclosed but it isnt lethal. Who ever told you that doesnt know what sodium borates even are. I have never ever treated a home using tenting and always have killed my powder post beetle issues

      @@GreenAkersPC Thank you so much for your reply!
      What is the likelihood of a powder post beetles traveling up the walls of the home?
      Right now I only see it in the horizontal boards in the crawlspace.
      Florida agriculture and consumer affairs is starting an investigation next week.

    I have seen some bigger holes but no small holes. I can hear them eating the wood. Do you think beetles can make bigger holes?

    • @GreenAkersPC
      @GreenAkersPC  Před 2 měsíci

      Wood borer beetles and carpenter ants both make chewing noises and are much larger than powder post beetles

    • @GreenAkersPC
      @GreenAkersPC  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Powder post beetles do not attack live trees. Pine sawyer wood borers do though but they typically just tunnel between the bark layer and trees you would need to ask a arborist what they recommend

      @GreenAkersPC  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Well powder post beetles don’t attack live trees so what I would do is take pictures and show a professional arborist because their profession is in things that attack live trees my profession deals with already dead trees

    • @GreenAkersPC
      @GreenAkersPC  Před rokem +1

      No you need to take off the poly and treat. I am not kidding you the poly is designed to seal the wood and keep moisture out
