Talk about a hell of a comeback.😂 His 1st year back in '95 MJ won the NBA Finals (his 4th), regular season MVP (his 5th), Finals MVP (his 4th), all-star game MVP (his 2nd), scoring title (his 8th), all-NBA 1st team (his 8th), and all NBA defensive 1st team (his 7th). Matter fact his TWO 3 PEATS is almost just as remarkable as him winning 8 straight considering he retired to play baseball fpr 18 MONTHS!!! How many 3 peats do LeBron have btw??? How many times did Jordan have to link with TWO perrenial all-stars just to be 3-6 in The Finals???

Yeah, I get that they didn't really have enough time to go into detail too much in terms of how he controlled games, but there are so many big, clutch shots that Jordan used to hit at the end of games that have been forgotten. Everyone remembers the game-winners, but nobody talks about the big shots he used to hit to cut a 4 point game down to a 1 point game to set up the eventual game-winner, or the little mini runs he would go on by himself that could get the Bulls back into a game when they were struggling. yeah, he was one of the best rebounders ever, but he offered next to nothing offensively (especially in his last couple of seasons with the Bulls) - and other teams knew this. They would completely ignore him at times because they knew he wasn't a threat to score. He would often get a rebound and be all by himself under the rim, but instead of laying it up or dunking it, he'd turn and kick it out so he could try to get an assist or another rebound. It was maddening at times.

  • @ReneParada

MJ was already that kind of leader when the Bulls were still not winning from 87-90. That's what molded Grant, Pippen, Paxson, and Cartwright during those years to prepare them for the first 3-peat. His standard is not just anchored on whether he was already a winner, his standard is to win at all costs. If a player today does that, he should make sure he is putting in all the efforts, day in and day out, and improving towards the ultimate goal of winning the championship. Before anyone becomes a winner, they made the journey first. These teammates coming out are the ones who were not there when MJ's Bulls were not yet champions.

If the Bulls were down 2 with 45 seconds left and Jordan was fouled, I would just go grab a cold drink real quick because I knew the freethrows were money. A slight anticipation would build because it was like I can't wait to see how he pulls this one off. This does not mean Jordan won every single close game, it meant he was a master at closing close games once he figured everything out. It was a master class at closing games when that championship was in the balance.

Been thinking about that quote from BJ. How Jordan was no longer playing basketball after the first chip - he was just out there making sure they won. I think I’ve heard someone make the same observation about Bird. I imagine some sort of Matrix-like realization where the game just slows down and you see and feel everything and everybody on the court - teammates, opponents, coaches, referees - on a higher level. Seeing and feeling situations develop before anyone else, sensing shifts in the games energy and controlling them. Would have been interesting to hear him comment on it or try to explain it. At times it looked like he (and Bird) was literally toying with opposing players and teams - making all kind of predictions and backing them up. That a player at the games ultimate level, against the worlds greatest players and athletes - can just decide that he’s gonna go out there and score 50 is just mind boggling.

Kinda like "Detail". That makes sense if you are a basketball player and you would like to see how MJ surveys a defensive set and how he would react on how to beat it, or how he instinctively knows when and how to impact or control the game either with scoring, defense, passing etc... When Jordan was younger that dude was a bundle of energy and always around the ball. As he got older, he was so efficient, that after the game you would have thought he had a quiet game. Then you see the box score and he had a "quiet" 31 pts! After he played defense, he would always go straight to that pinch post and camp out.

I TOTALLY AGREE with Kerry Kittles. Coincidentally I just commented that to someone else who said MJ had to go out there every night and get beat up by really great talent which was something the NBA players don't have to deal with today. BUT You just wouldn't know that looking at the documentary. Even though it was a good series- The series jumped all over the place - the championships were just a little above matter-of-fact We were embroiled in the story of Jerry Krause maybe a little more than it deserved since the championships were sacrificed. I think it would've been okay to go for two more episodes too if possible to fit it all in properly. why more of it couldn't have been told in a linear fashion escapes me. I mean they didn't even show why air jordan was air jordan - they should've shown some footage of his hangtime in the air unless I missed it going out of the room.
